3 REASONS WHY 82% OF COACHING BUSINESSES FAIL

First off there are not just three reasons, there are many reasons coaching businesses aren’t successful. Sometimes it’s about the coaching, other times it’s about the business. I'm going to share 3 of the top reasons that I see.

Are you ready to dive in?

The first reason many coaching businesses fail:

Scenario 1
This is going to sound too simple to be true, but if you have been a coach, a healer or in the transformational space at all you will have met with clients who are deeply attached to the story, the symptoms they are presenting with and the relationship that they think that they originate from. Yet when you question and coach them you intuitively feel that there is something else present that you should be working on or with, but the client just doesn’t feel comfortable enough to go there.

Scenario 2
You spend months working with a client, only to get to the end of your time together and the client doesn’t feel 100% satisfied. Why? Because the goal posts for what you have been working on and what they said they wanted to achieve, keep forever changing. Why? Because you couldn’t find the one thing that stopped them from being willing to focus.
Different scenarios - same problem.

The reason:

Not being able to diagnose the ROOT cause of the problem, which prevents any meaningful transformation, at least from the clients perspective, from taking place.

Which means you have clients that complete working with you and have no desire to come back or tell their friends/colleagues about you.

The second reason many coaching businesses fail:

Let’s go back to scenario number 2, the client that comes to every other session with a big goal or dream that they are excited about, or no longer feels like the thing you have been working on together for the last three months feels aligned. I get that it happens, especially if the client is working with a great coach who has been able to support their client by highlighting their misalignment. However, when this is a pattern that shows up frequently in a coaching practice, this is less likely to be a people pattern and more likely to be a coach pattern that has this frequently showing up in their practice because they don’t know when it is appropriate to intervene or change hats from coach, to mentor or even consultant in order to create a pattern interrupt for the client and help them stay on track. Ultimately if you can’t help clients get the results they recognise that they desire, a coaching business will not survive.

The reason:

Not having the skill set or the knowledge to switch between coach, consultant and mentor mode - contributing to slow client progress.

The third reason many coaching businesses fail:

Not understanding the Business of Coaching, relying on traditional therapy based models that lead to high output, low profit income with high energy output which when combined with not being able to implement and execute foundational business strategies, ultimately lead to the life spark of the business burning out.

The reason:

Not understanding The Business of Coaching.

With an industry that has the capacity to change the lives of individuals on both a micro and a macro level, this really is a travesty and actually with some quite simple shifts can dramatically change the outcomes that both coaches and their clients are experiencing.

My invitation to you is to think about the thing you are manifesting and know that it is already done.

As you know that it is done notice how it feels in your body. Notice how you feel.

Gratitude, relief, excitement, joy, relaxation.

As you feel it, amplify it.

Then hold it, for at least 5 minutes.

Then go about your day, from that same place. From that place of knowing that it is done.

Do this exercise 2 x a day for the next 7 days and notice how much more you are receiving.

This thinking is sneaky and persistent.

There are so many times we will choose compromise, not because that is the best option, or the right option but because someone told us that it was wrong to want it all.

Because it feels too greedy to say this and that.

Because your thought process says who am I to want all of that.

Because we don’t feel we have capacity.

What is true, is when we choose AND Living, you are choosing to increase your capacity.

And increasing your capacity takes intention and practice and that gets to be okay.

It’s not just about getting more of what we desire as I frame it here in the book.

It’s about radical acceptance - of who you are and the role you are playing right now, in whatever circumstances you are experiencing.

It’s about noticing all of the small places where you are shifting blame, waiting for someone else to do the thing, or rescue you.

It’s about all of the places where you don’t show up for yourself.

Each of those moments are determining your experience alongside every time you:

Remember who the f**k you are.
Own it.
Claim it.
And refuse to accept anything less.

A couple of weeks ago I had a challenging situation with one of my kids where I could see the idea of not feeling enough was fuelling a behaviour.

It broke my heart.

What it led to was me explaining,

There was nothing they could do to make me love them more.

And there was nothing they could do to make me love them less.

Whilst I know this will land when it lands..

The journey of giving this gift to ourselves is the goal.

External s**t will never make internal s**t better.

AND

That doesn’t make external s**t bad.

The game is to remember that we are whole, complete and enough anyway. All ways and in all ways.

The more we can know this, the more fun we get to have when it comes to choosing and claiming what we want, not to prove a thing or fill a thing. We get to choose it just because we want it.

Choosing our desires from a place of fullness, wholeness, completeness and innate worthiness.

So much more fun, don’t you think?

Sometimes the most challenging step to receiving more, is the first one.

Being honest about what you really want.

Frequently, you choose less.
Say later.
Or refuse to speak into at all, because the fear is, it’s just not possible for you.

- you don’t deserve it.
- it’s not the right time.
- you’re not ready yet.
- you don’t know how.
- it doesn’t seem possible.

So you slow or even stop the flow.

First step is claiming.

Second step is knowing that it is done.

Third step is acting in alignment with the knowing.

What do you want?

Bigger picture.

What do you want from today?
