inflation's reached its highest point in a decade but as you can see, prices have actually been rising pretty steadily through 2021.

๐ increasing energy prices as a result of increasing demand for oil + gas
๐ shortages of many goods (incl. building materials and computer chips - raw materials that are the foundation for so many other goods, so high demand / low supply for raw materials = higher prices of raw materials = translated onto prices of goods/services that utilise those materials)
๐ brexit hasn't helped - compounding goods and people shortages. Heard there was a lorry driver shortage?
๐ the government lent a lot of support to businesses during the pandemic (e.g. reduced VAT on hospitality) and was also injecting money in to stimulate the economy. This has all ended, RIP.
