inflation's reached its highest point in a decade but as you can see, prices have actually been rising pretty steadily through 2021.

๐Ÿ”˜ increasing energy prices as a result of increasing demand for oil + gas

๐Ÿ”˜ shortages of many goods (incl. building materials and computer chips - raw materials that are the foundation for so many other goods, so high demand / low supply for raw materials = higher prices of raw materials = translated onto prices of goods/services that utilise those materials)

๐Ÿ”˜ brexit hasn't helped - compounding goods and people shortages. Heard there was a lorry driver shortage?

๐Ÿ”˜ the government lent a lot of support to businesses during the pandemic (e.g. reduced VAT on hospitality) and was also injecting money in to stimulate the economy. This has all ended, RIP.

๐Ÿ‘‰opening a Stocks & Shares ISA allows you to invest up to ยฃ20,000 each tax year without incurring capital gains tax.

๐Ÿ‘‰if you get to maximising your ISA (congrats!), then you're only taxed on capital gains *after* your gains exceed ยฃ12,300 (that is, the capital gains allowance for 2021/22 in the UK).

๐Ÿ“‰while it can be tempting to wait for โ€œa dipโ€ to take action, itโ€™s almost impossible to try to time the market. This is true for experienced professionals and for beginners alike.
๐Ÿšจdon't forget: professional investors have access to a constant flow of real-time information you simply can't compete with as a private investor...

๐Ÿ’กone of the best ways to ride the waves of the market is to invest regularly. Youโ€™ll buy less when prices are high, but youโ€™ll also buy more when prices are low.

โ“ what's your preferred approach and why? would love to know!

PS. A 2019 study by JP Morgan found that 6 of the 10 best days in the market (based on the S&P 500 index) over a 20-year period occurred within 2 weeks of the 10 worst days. So if you're trying to time the market - that's a lot of days to be really wired and stressed over....

๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ๐ฎ๐ง ๐Ÿ๐š๐œ๐ญ: it took me 1.5 years from opening my Stocks & Shares ISA to finally taking the plunge to put the cash into investments. Pains me to think about now. I wasn't waiting for a dip - just overwhelmed with choice, but there have definitely been moments during the years where I've paused to wonder if I should try to wait for a "better price".

๐Ÿ’ฌ ISAs! I'm getting into this immediately because if you're building your wealth smartly, you're utilizing your ISA.

๐Ÿฆ„they're tax-efficient, period. Each tax year, the govt sets a certain ยฃ you can contribute into your ISA without paying taxes on the gains.
๐Ÿคญnot contributing to your ISA is like... buying a new Macbook full price when you could have bought it for 15% off.

๐Ÿ‘‰there's a little more to it than what I've laid out above because there are actually 4 types of ISA, which is why you'll hear the term thrown around a lot. I'll be breaking them down, so stay tuned.

๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜†
๐Ÿ’ธeach type of ISA gives you the option of making your cash work harder for you (than it would have worked sitting outside the ISA, maybe in a mattress, who knows). That could be from tax-free interest earned from savings rates or tax-free capital gains from investing it in the stock market.๐Ÿ’ธ

if you have an ISA, I'd love to hear what type and which provider you've chosen! let me know in the comments ๐Ÿ‘‡
