USA's Anita Alvarez sank slowly to the bottom of the pool at the world championships in Budapest on Wednesday.
Her coach, Andrea Fuentes, scanned the pool deck and made a split-second decision: She dove in to save her.
This image reminds me of the importance of coaching and mentoring.
This coach had the ability to recognize when Anita was under longer than she normally is.
This coach had the desire to help.
This coach had the ability to help.
This coach acted while others were still watching on the sideline.
For Leaders and Coaches, may we always recognize that there might be young leaders drowning right now, Burned out, in need of our rescue and guidance. Be always on the lookout.
And for most of us, acknowledge that we all need someone to guide us.
You are never too young nor too old to have a mentor.
Remember:
You drown not by falling into a river, but by staying submerged in it.
