Smackdown was formed because basicly someone had to represent the harder underground sounds in (the East Part of) The Netherlands as well, and do it properly. In our opinion there was not enough attention formed to music genres like Hardcore Techno (UK-Hardcore), Industrial Hardcore, Hard & Heavy Drum & Bass, Breakcore and other subgenres. So to make sure it got the attention what it deserved, we
started an event called Smackdown. We where lucky to have had the oppurtunity to start the series in Doornroosje, Nijmegen (Darko Esser, up to this day still, a massive thanks for creating the possiblity). After a shortwhile Smackdown met Ng-Ng Events and decided it would be best to join forces in the struggle of promoting underground music. Ng-Ng deserves a huge bunch of respect for being the first to start things in NL for the sound of Hardcore Techno, without making compromises. That's why Smackdown became and is still officially part of Ng-Ng Events. Ng-Ng had started way earlier in Rotterdam where they created a bloody platform in the Nighttown, Rotterdam for vicious underground hardcore music. So when we joined forces with Ng-Ng the whole East to the West was represented. And not only the whole West to the East. In the following years many big and smaller events followed throughout not only Nijmegen and Rotterdam but also countries like Belgium (Gent, Brussels, Waregem), Germany, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Throughout the last 5 years we where able to bring pretty much any artist that matters within the hard underground electronic music scene to either the Netherlands or Belgium. Over the past 5 years we have withnessed numerous of excellent performances and where lucky enough to work together with artists like for instance Hellfish, Venetian Snares, Current Value, The Panacea, Limewax, I:GOR, Counterstrike, COOH, Lasse Steen, ROTATOR, Donny, Bryan Fury, KID 606, The Outside Agency, Mindustries, Tieum, Laurent Ho, Drokz, Akira, DJ Hidden & Eye-D, Xanopticon, DuranDuranDuran, Electric Kettle, Boxcutter, Milanese, Somatic Responses, Neurocore, La Peste, Baseck and many many many others. In the past we have worked together with various (big) organizations like PRSPCT, Nekrolog1k Recordings, Planet Mu, Mu-Sick, Drumadix, Bug-Klinik, Corrossion and some others. Next to this we have struck down in many awesome venue's like Doornroosje, Nighttown, WATT, Waterfront, Waalhalla, Merleyn, The Steeple, De Qubus, 't Steegske / the Frontline, La Casa a Chocs and many many more. Somewhere in between above history sketch, we have also formed a electronic music label representing a wide spectrum of music styles. With releases by Hellfish, The Outside Agency, Counterstrike, COOH, I:gor, Current Value, Bryan Fury, DJ Hidden, Somatic Responses we have made some impact within the vinyl industry. Counting 5 fysical vinyl releases (as well as digital releases) and +/- 6 upcoming releases by Forbidden Society, I:gor, COOH, DJ Hidden, Akira, Axe Gabba Murda Mob, Fiend and others Smackdown continues to grow as an independent music label.
