Ekpeye Killings: Upata Monarch Bemoans Daily Massacre of People, Calls for Unity of Purpose

The Upata Traditional Council has expressed great concern with the incessant cult related killings and destruction of property in Ekpeye land in recent times.

The Council called for an end to what it described as the "general atmosphere of fear and progressive militarization" of Ekpeye communities by armed cultists.

HRM Nye Udu Felix Enene Otuwarikpo, Fnipr who is the traditional ruler spoke on behalf of the Council during an interactive session organized by the Uzugbani Ekpeye in commemoration of the 1 year anniversary of the Eze Ekpeye Logbo III, HM Eze (Amb.) Kelvin Ngozi Anugwo, Ph.D, CNA, FNIM, MNIMN, JP, AP.

The session which attracted top businessmen and women, academia, politicians, youth leaders, women leaders, community leaders, security chiefs and high ranking traditional Ruler's in Ekpeye and beyond, held at the Ekpeye Palace Hall, Ula Upata community.

While he noted that the current insecurity can be addressed through "counseling but if it fails, drastic actions has to be deployed to achieve peace. If we are interested, Ekpeye will be peaceful in 24 hours. We must be decisive to end the incessant killings in various parts of Ekpeye."

Against the backdrop of calls that traditional rulers should intervene in the lingering insecurity in the land, Nye Udu Otuwarikpo said while it is their primary responsibility to secure their Kingdoms, he absorbed the traditional institution of any blame over the biting insecurity, pointing out that "we don't control security fund to fight crime and criminality."

He assured that the Upata Traditional Council will always stand with all citizens across Ekpeye communities and share in their pains at this critical time, while he urged Ekpeye people to support the government and one another at what he described as "critical time."

On Ekpeye unity, Nye Udu Otuwarikpo said the time is ripe to "rebuild Ekpeye. Let's stop the gossip and face realities. It's time to stop the ongoing rascality. It is time to advice ourselves against unruly acts and behavior. We need each other if we must make progress as an ethnic nation."

Preparing Upata For Greatness

The Nye-ishi Ele Upata Lowetu Li Nye Udu Upata III of Upata Kingdom on Saturday charged Upata people to rally together and defend the Kingdom from forces that seek to create instability and chaos by putting the Kingdom's interest above personal interests.

The traditional ruler gave the charge while addressing Clan Heads, Community Heads, Title Chiefs, Leaders of Uzugbani Upata, Opinion Leaders, Youth Leaders among others at an expanded meeting of Upata Traditional Council held at the Civic Hall of the Upata Civic Centre, Edeoha.

He admitted that the journey to greatness might be strewn with challenges, but expressed optimism that there is hope despite perceived distractions.

He urged the people to cherish and focus on building confidence as patriots noting, "the task of building a great Kingdom is a collective one. All of us must partake in" and that the seeming lapses not withstanding, Upatans "must rise to the occasion both as leaders and citizens to advance practicable solutions and play active roles in resolving observed difficulties."

According to him, this was not the time to sit and throw blames at one another, but to remain focused on the task of building a stronger, united and virile Upata Kingdom.

The meeting which reviewed current security situation, considered reports from committee heads, particularly report from the Upata Market Committee.

Nye Udu Upata Set To Embark On Historic Royal Visit

Nye-ishi ele Upata Lowetu, Nye Udu Felix Enene Otuwarikpo,Ph.D, Nye Udu Upata III, will embark on a historic royal visit to all Igbu (Kingdoms) in Ekpeyeland inorder to strengthen the cultural affinities between the people of Ekpeye Ethnic Nation.

The overall plan include to cement the ancestral bloodline, promote peaceful coexistence and as well use the visit for cultural and economic partnership that will be beneficial to all.

The trip will also strategically touch on the need for Ekpeye people to bond in unity and act in collective aspiration.

The Nye Udu Upata will be in Ula Ehuda in Akoh Kingdom on May 14th, 2021 to kick start the historic visit as the ancestral and spiritual capital of all Akoh people.

His visit will mark a new beginning with indelible marks capable of strengthening the age long historic ties within the Akalaka family. This visit will allow for cultural, spiritual and economic exchanges that will positively uplift our people.

Other functions to be performed by the Nye Udu Upata during the historic visit includes a royal procession for peace and visits to ancient sites in Akoh Kingdom.

As the Spiritual Head of the Upata race globally, and the Regent to the stool of Eze Ekpeye Logbo, the Nye Udu Upata has chosen, as a responsibility to unite all Ekpeye people globally.

The Nye Udu Upata who will be accompanied by Nye Udu Ede Upata, Nye Udu Owu Upata, Nye Udu Akpana Upata, Nye Udu Ugboko Upata, Nye Udu Ula,Titled Chiefs, leadership of the apex Upata socio-cultural organization, Uzugbani Upata, including some notable stakeholders, aides and cultural troupes.

Upata Felicitates With Ari, Lauds His Selflessness

The Upata Traditional Council and the good people of Upata Kingdom felicitate with High Chief Joseph Ntung Ari and his family and the management and staff of the Industrial Training Fund, ITF over his well-deserved re-appointment as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer.

We are not surprise by his reappointment by President Muhammadu Buhari for another four year term. This is because he has rebranded and refocused the organisation by making it a frontline skill development and job creation machinery that has empowered millions of Nigerians.

His first four years has given hope to many youths and reduced the fruitless hunt for non-existing white collar jobs, thereby reducing crime in the society. It is clear that Upata Kingdom will continue to partner with the ITF in empowering its people through skill development and entrepreneurial development.

Mr. President's decision to reappoint High Chief Joseph Ntung Ari, serves as a clear testimony of his outstanding track record of excellence, diligence and focused leadership at ITF.

All these desirable qualities earned him the confidence of President Muhammadu Buhari, hence his re-appointment for another term of four (4) years. While asking Almighty God to grant him long life, good health and wisdom as he continue to serve this great nation, we recall the laudable efforts he has put-in to activate good governance, using selfless service as a benchmark to achieve the core of ITF's values.
