Breaking News: Local Cat Elected Mayor After Unofficial Write-In Campaign

Whiskerville, August 13, 2024 — In a surprising twist of local politics, a cat named Mr. Whiskers has been elected mayor of Whiskerville after a write-in campaign led by a coalition of local dogs and a few very dedicated humans.

The campaign began as a joke when Mr. Whiskers' owner, Janet Melville, posted a playful social media message encouraging people to vote for her feline friend. To everyone’s astonishment, the post went viral, and the movement gained unexpected traction.

Mr. Whiskers, known for his impressive napping skills and occasional tendency to knock things over, was declared the winner by a landslide. His platform included promises of more sunny spots for lounging, an increase in the number of cat treats, and mandatory daily nap times.

"We're just thrilled to see a new face in office, even if it’s covered in fur," said one enthusiastic voter. "Mr. Whiskers may not have any experience in politics, but at least he’s purr-fectly charming."

Before Shrek could respond, she suddenly grabbed his hands and held them in between her own. For a moment, he stared deeply into her deep chocolate brown eyes, trying to find the truth in them. However, he failed. All that he could sense was guilt. "Please tell me you aren't mad at me." He pleaded.
"Not at all," Fiona replied softly. "In fact, I'm glad that you saved my life. Now that I know that I'm safe, I promise to never let anyone get close to me again."
Shrek didn't reply immediately, instead choosing to look at their joined hands for a while before asking, "Can I hold your hand?" "Of course." Fiona nodded, smiling, and Shrek gently touched his thumb with hers. He closed his eyes, feeling happy, then reopened them, staring deeply into her beautiful, brown eyes. This time, he kissed her cheek lovingly. He could sense that her expression softened and she leaned forward, kissing him tenderly on the lips. He closed his eyes and returned the kiss with passion, but as quickly as he had initiated it, she ended it, pulling away from him.
"So... what was that about?" he asked, confused by how easily they had managed to act naturally around each other even though their earlier arguments had only lasted a short period of time.

When they broke apart, Fiona stood up and stretched her arms. "Now come here, I haven' eaten since yesterday night," she said, walking back into the kitchen area. "You hungry?" she added after Shrek followed her.

Fiona smiled slightly and moved closer to him as he wrapped her in a hug. She hugged him tightly, causing him to blush, although it wasn't noticeable on his usually emotionless face.

After awhile, Fiona sat up and wiped her eyes dry. "How long have I been asleep?" she asked.
Shrek glanced at the clock before replying. "Just under five hours."
She nodded in understanding and began to rub the sleep from her eyes. "Where's Rumpelstiltskin?" she questioned.
"He's gone. The potion wore off." Shrek replied. "I'm afraid…"
"...You've done everything that can be done for me." Fiona finished for him, knowing the answer already.
"Yes…" Shrek responded, feeling remorseful. "I just wanted to protect you."

He rushed to her side and grabbed her by the shoulders, shaking her as best as possible. After a little while, she slowly regained consciousness and looked at Shrek, trying to regain her composure. Seeing the tears streaming down her cheeks, Shrek sighed sadly and put his forehead against hers. "I'm sorry Fiona… I'm so sorry..." he cried as he held her tightly.

Shrek waited anxiously and silently for what would happen next. All that could be heard was the sound of Fiona coughing and choking while the potion began to work its magic on her. Soon, the coughs became racking coughs and Fiona fell unconscious from the pain. Shrek panicked, as she had been poisoned and he felt that he couldn't handle another loss.

"Fiona... you may be able to see through me, but I can see through you, too," Shrek said. "You have your faults, yes... but your heart is good."
"My heart is not good!" she snapped. "It's dark and filled with darkness! It will always remain that way!"
Shrek tried to argue with her once more. "Perhaps, but if you only gave it time, then it would change."
"I have given you no chance!" Fiona shouted, enraged by his persistence. "If you cannot accept who you are, then don't force yourself into my company!"
Shrek shook his head, feeling defeated. "Alright… Fine... But please, just... try to be nice," he pleaded. "

this decision became difficult as he discovered that humans were much smarter than ogres, although not nearly as physically powerful. He was surprised to discover that the majority of humans seemed to be very kindhearted people, yet he could not find it in himself to trust them; instead, he felt hatred toward them. One day, however, when Rumpelstiltskin asked Shrek what he thought about humans, the ogre answered: "They're stupid"
He learned quickly that the humans weren't always good, and that sometimes they might do bad things that weren't necessarily evil. He discovered that humans were capable of being kindhearted and generous, yet selfish at the same time and he realised why some humans were considered monsters. He began to question whether humans and ogres were really equals. In fact, many times, he wondered whether he himself was an ogress, or whether he was merely another species, another race. As he continued to question this

Despite these skills, Shrek was often seen to be rather cowardly as he'd often leave his opponents and run whenever they approached him. He also showed fear when threatened, which made him less intimidating.
When faced with Rumpelstiltskin, who was powerful and ruthless, Shrek had always been extremely fearful of him. He had been so scared that he ran away every time he saw him coming, leaving behind nothing but a trail of bread crumbs in his wake. He didn't understand why Rumpelstiltskin did what he did or how he was even created. He wasn't sure if his actions were justified or if he should feel guilty for leaving his parents to die in the fire. The one thing he knew was that he couldn't go back there again, nor did he want to face him ever again. He decided that if he wanted to survive, he had to learn to fight like a human
