When Lao Tzu said ; “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step “. He wasn’t wrong , because you won’t get anywhere unless you start the journey . A week ago, I signed the Temporary Roll of Court Register as a pupil Barrister/Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone. And it’s clearly not my first step neither second or third . But guess what ? I’m still walking my way through the stairs and I couldn’t be more grateful and proud of how far I’ve come . It’s indeed a long ride but I’m here for it!

I want to express my deepest gratitude to my family, with a special acknowledgment to my incredible mother. Her sacrifices, selflessness, and unwavering support were the foundation that enabled me to become the lady that I am today . Even in the face of challenges, she prioritized our well-being over her own comfort, depriving herself so that we could have a better life.

I am immensely grateful for my siblings, whose relentless support has been a driving force on my journey. Together, we maintained a strong bond that propelled me to this significant milestone.

There's something remarkable about being different or considered "unusual." If you find yourself in that position, embrace it and see yourself as someone truly unique. I've never had the privilege of being invited to the prestigious tables, often being labeled as the odd one out simply because my educational background didn't match the crowd's expectations ; precisely my school is not known to many .

I've been told countless times that I didn't attend one of the "good schools." I distinctly remember a moment when I won a competition at my former workplace. As I celebrated my achievement, a close friend approached me and asked, "Did you really attend that village school?" I confidently replied, confirming that I obtained all my university requirements on my first attempt from my school, Mathora. He responded, "But your school isn't known to many. You could have been a genius if you had attended one of the renowned institutions." While he likely meant it as a compliment, it left me feeling uncomfortable.

I became defensive about the comment regarding my school, but I knew that something had to change. I've always known that I'm different, and I've enjoyed certain privileges because of it.

During my school years, I was one of the fortunate students who received a great deal of attention and support from principals, teachers, and peers alike. Their high expectations of me served as a constant motivator, and I couldn't bear to let them down.

When I left for university, I carried their hopes with me. I've always had a desire to return to my school and community to inspire and support our young girls, but I realized I needed to find my voice to make a real impact. Someone needed to alter the narrative.

Our school, Mathora, has produced ministers and officials, but I couldn't think of any lawyers, at least not to my knowledge. I recognized that this was a gap I needed to fill to inspire our young girls and the community, showing them that anything is possible. You can achieve absolutely anything, provided you're willing to embrace challenges and calculated risks. If it hasn't been done before, be the first to do it. If it has, reinvent it in your unique way and hold your head high.

If you truly want to stand out and succeed in your endeavors, be prepared to take up space and speak out when necessary. Watch as you conquer and achieve your goals.

To the girls in my school, Mathora/GSSG, I hope this message serves as an inspiration and helps us elevate our noble school once again.

To my principals and school teachers, I hope your "small girl" (small Sama) makes you proud.

To my peers, I saw the congratulatory messages, comments, wishes , posts ,shares and all of it . Thank you for everything !

To everyone reading this, I hope you find the courage to pursue your dreams, regardless of your background. Conquer and make them a reality!
