“Lugal Abu” by EJ Gagui () is among the five (5) nominated films in the Documentary Short category for the 4th Pinoy Rebyu Awards of the Society of Filipino Film Reviewers (SFFR).

Pinoy Rebyu Awards is an award-giving body founded by the SFFR which consists of more than 30 active reviewers of Philippine cinema.

The winners will be announced on March 1.

UP CAST stands in solidarity with jeepney drivers and operators AGAINST the PUV Modernization Program. The program only serves to enrich foreign corporations while jeepney drivers and operators face the cost of a P2.3 to P2.6 million Class 3 vehicle and the commuting public to pay increased fares. PUV Phaseout is a burden to Filipino drivers, their families and the commuting public.

A film organization composed of mga 𝘪𝘴𝘬𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘯, UP CAST listens to the people and serves the people. Our student members are indebted to the people’s tax, to the local jeepney system within the campus and to the public transport system as a whole. Our drivers and operators allow UP CAST to pursue its aims to cultivate Filipino Cinema and a socially responsible and critical Filipino audience.

"Rocks in a Windless Wadi" has been nominated for Best Documentary at the 46th Gawad Urian (!!!) presented by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino.

Since 1977, Gawad Urian has annually recognized filmmakers for their outstanding works for Philippine cinema. The film award is composed of members of Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, an organization of Filipino film critics and scholars.

The awarding event will take place on November 30, 2023 at the UP Film Institute.

EJ Gagui @ Tech Tales Youth 2023

Being one of the eight (8) selected filmmakers at EngageMedia’s Tech Tales Youth, EJ Gagui flies to Thailand to attend the DRAPAC23 Assembly on May 22-26, 2023.

On top of the mentorship program and masterclasses, each filmmaker will receive funding to produce their films tackling human digital rights which are set to premiere in December 2023 as part of Tech Tales Youth’s campaign on digital rights.

The filmmaker and his younger brother filmed a wadi they describe as “windless” for being too quiet. With archives of footage and audio conversations, it recreates a lonely character contemplating the deep muffled voices of the unseen real people, stillness of rocks to the unmoving conflict. The dialogues within the wordless exposé tackle traumatic memories as they become urgent stories relevant to both the past and the present.

Since their factory closes down, 18-year-old San Kyi and her 25-year-old close friend Theint Theint Oo are out of work. San is set up for an arranged marriage by her mother. Since Theint will return to her hometown to work, San decides to run away with her. She gives her gold chain to Theint to make money. Things do not work out the way San expects when Theint does not return on time.

Exactly a year after the remote production, our "Ing Tianak" team has finally met in flesh at ISFFM 2022 🎥🍿

Our animated short screened along with Vahn Pascual's "Alingasngas ng mga Kuliglig" and Gabriela Serrano's "Dikit" to close this year's International Silent Film Festival Manila (ISFFM).

These three (3) shorts were part of the ten (10) selected entries at the 2021 Mit Out Sound (MOS): International Silent Film Competition which was a joint initiative to revive silent cinema in contemporary times—supported by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), Embassy of France to the Philippines and Micronesia, The Philippine Italian Association, Goethe-Institut Philippinen, Instituto Cervantes de Manila, and the Japan Foundation.
