17/08/2021

New Zealand's borders are likely to remain closed for most of the year depending on the progress in the vaccination campaign against the coronavirus, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Tuesday.
New Zealand closed its borders to foreigners and non-residents in the spring of 2020, when the global COVID-19 crisis kicked off.
"Given the risks that exist in the world, and the uncertainty with the introduction of vaccines, we can expect that this will affect our borders for most of the year," Ardern said at a briefing broadcast on her page.
The prime minister explained that the borders could be opened either when the vaccination curbed the virus' transmission among the population or when enough citizens were inoculated to allow safe entry.

Aday after taking over Kabul, Afghan fighters were seen enjoying rides in an amusement park in Afghanistan.

The Taliban soldiers were seen riding electric bumper cars with weapons in their hands. In a separate video, they were also seen riding play horses in the park.

This is in contrast to a video that captured the sense of horror among the people in Afghanistan where hundreds of young Afghan nationals were seen running along and clinging on to a US Military Aircraft on the runway as it was about to take off from the Kabul airport.

Sources said the young nationals mostly comprised people who had helped the American government in Afghanistan. Some among them were translators who helped US when they were in control of the nation.

Stunning visuals show 640 Afghans packed in US plane

The image of a United States Air Force aircraft packed with 640 people went viral on social media, bringing out the sense of fear among people as the Taliban returned to power in the country after nearly two decades.

Defence officials have said the plane was not intending to carry so many people, however, panicked Afghans rushed into the open ramp of the aircraft to flee the country. Instead of asking them to get off, the crew made the decision to take off for Qatar.
