Are you a social media manager?

You aspire to be a social media manager?

Please, read till the end!

Your JOB as a social media MANAGER is different from that of a social media MARKETER.

Social media management and social media marketing are 2 different but related aspects of SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY.

Social media strategy basically answers the WHAT, WHY, WHEN and HOW of social pages.

It is the answers given to these 4 basic "WHs" that illustrate the strategies for the social pages you handle that determines if you'd be doing "mere" management or you'd go further to "market".

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT basically entails you creating, publishing, engaging, and analyzing content on social media platforms.

For emphasis, your job as a social media MANAGER is to create post, publish the post on chosen social media platforms, engage with users on those platforms such as reacting and replying to comments using social media management free and paid tools.

The General objective of social media management is to keep the Social Media pages you manage ALIVE and UPDATE-TO-DATE.

Your major selling point as a social media manager is to SAVE TIME because keeping up with social media management strategy is actually very TIME CONSUMING so you'd be saving your client's time by helping them with this service.

On the other hand, SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING deals with: creating and running ad campaigns on social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, Google, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.

The selling point here is to INCREASE REVENUE.

I see how you go to pitch for a social media MANAGEMENT job and you're talking so much about INCREASING REVENUE.

I just want to let you know that mere social media management would NEVER increase revenue and it is one of the reasons you're not able to convince that client to give you the job.

There are several benefits of social media management that your potential client would be so happy to hire you to help them implement in their social media pages.

There are so many clients whose social media presence goals is NOT to generate revenue, so when you go blabbing about "generating revenue" you put them off immediately!

I will talk about these benefits in another post, but for today, I just want to let you know that you've been going about your presentations for Social Media Management jobs wrongly.

Yes, you can infuse social media marketing into your social media strategy, but if you do not know the difference you'd be going about it the wrong way, and inevitably shooting yourself on the foot.
