Studying in Australia, Alex Yunggun releases his latest album: MOVING ON
*Yogyakarta* - Being an artist in the modern era comes with different demands compared to artists of the past. Apart from needing competitive talent and skills, today's artists are required to build compatibility with the evolving times and possess various related abilities as well as in-depth empirical and theoretical knowledge.
Recognizing these demands, Alex Yunggun, a singer and songwriter from Yogyakarta, decided to pursue his studies in Australia. He had his sights on the Performing Arts field since high school, where he participated in a Study Tour organized by his school and visited the university campus where he's currently studying.
On his 18th birthday, August 29, 2023, Alex Yunggun released his latest Mini Album (EP) titled: "Moving On," containing 5 songs: "hoodie," "if only none of these were true," "it’s you," "kyo," and "EDEN."
In an interview conducted via his WhatsApp account, Alex conveyed that his new Mini Album / EP tells the story of how someone can move on from various things. It's not just about moving on from relationships, but also about moving on from childhood, hometown, and innocence. "I created these songs to depict the feeling of moving on from all these things," he explained.
Here are messages related to each song in the EP - "Moving On":
- "kyo," moving on from a past love;
- "EDEN," moving on from innocence;
- "hoodie," transitioning from immature love;
- "it’s you," shifting to a new love;
- "if only none of these were true," moving on from childhood to adolescence/adulthood.
Further, Alex stated, "I want to tell people that yes, change is scary. But change is important. Risks might be frightening, but they can be very beneficial and educational. Moving on from something is hard, but there's always something to be learned from it."
When asked why he writes his songs in English, Alex replied, "I write my songs in English because honestly, I'm still trying to write lyrics in both Indonesian and English, but I feel more confident with writing lyrics in English."
As we know, Alex Yunggun's journey in the Indonesian music scene began at the age of 15 with the song "U Give Me Love," composed by the legendary Chossy Pratama, a duet with his younger sibling, Bea Serendy, who also released it as her debut single.
After this first single, Alex Yunggun released two self-composed songs titled "Painting of Beauty" and "hope you’re feeling fine." Meanwhile, Bea Serendy also released her own compositions titled "ok, from a distance, only one" and "what if."
In conclusion, Alex Yunggun's message was, "I hope everyone can enjoy my songs, and I'll be happy to receive feedback directly, both personally and openly in public."
