Knocks As Church Invites Pasuma, Portable To Praise Night

A branch of the Celestial Church of Christ in Lagos State has come under fire for inviting Fuji singer, Pasuma, and street-hop artiste, Portable, to its praise night event.

The flyer for the event was posted on the church’s page on Wednesday, and netizens took to the comment section to slam the church for inviting secular artistes to its event.

A Facebook user, Bolanle Bamidele Adewuyi, wrote, “This is disheartening... Is this what you turn the Church of God to? It's hilarious.”

Another commenter, Festus Olanrewaji Ojo wrote, “This is a shame! Shame and a very big shame.”

“This is totally nonsense,” BU KO LA commented.

Ayo Ife wrote, “The artists are not complete yet Una for kuku add Naira Marley so that the soul winning can be complete!”

Edafe Oghenebrume said, “This is a sacrilege in the Celestial Church of Christ. It is disheartening, pathetic, shameful and disgraceful. I wonder about the spiritual orientation of your Shepherd-In-Charge and the congregation.”

Becky Wunmi Hassan Ayoade added, “There is nothing they will not turn celestial church to.”

However, some netizens noted that they would be present for the event.

Abike Ade said, “I will surely be there.”

Actor Sylvester Madu reportedly arrested in Cameroon over shooting that claimed four

Nollywood actor, Sylvester Madu, has been reportedly detained by police operatives in Bamenda, Cameroon.

The actor was arrested alongside four others over the fatal shooting of four people at a beer parlour on Saturday, November 23, 2023.

It was gathered that some unidentified g¥nmen stormed the lounge where Madu was hanging out with a few others around 10 pm on Saturday.

The attack claimed the lives of four people and left over 10 with serious inj¥ries.

According to multiple reports, the actor who was rescued by military personnel, was however detained after he insisted that the four civilians who were also rescued be released.

“He is currently in detention and has been sent to court. He refused to leave the four civilians that were also rescued behind. He came to Cameroon to shoot a movie,” a source said.

EFCC arraigns couple for N2.7billion fraud in Lagos.

A Lagos-based couple, Oriyomi and Ruth Idowu, has been arraigned before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja over alleged N2.7 billion fraud.

The couple was arraigned by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, on 20 count charges bordering on obtaining money by false pretence, money laundering, st£aling, retention of st%len property, and forgery to the tune of N2,757,188,000.

They were arraigned alongside Food Commodity Processing Enterprise, Bonway Food Processing Company Limited, Samee Idowu Company Limited and Farmex Integrated Companies Limited, which all belong to Ruth Idowu.

The defendants pleaded “not guilty” to the charges when they were read to them and Justice Dada adjourned the matter till December 15, 2023 and ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Correctional Centre “pending hearing and determination of their bail applications”.

PHOTOS: Four Hospitalised As Car Crashes Into Lagos Building

No fewer than four male adults have sustained severe injuries in an accident involving a Lexus car along Liasu road in the Idimu area of Lagos State.

Our correspondent learnt that the incident happened on Sunday at about 5 am.

The vehicle was said to be moving at top speed when it lost control, swerved off the road and rammed into a shop opposite a Catholic church along the axis.

The impact of the crash also damaged a building behind the shop thereby affecting some of its occupants who were still asleep.

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the occupants sustained varying degrees of injuries in the process.

The injured victims have been taken to the hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.

Although the driver escaped unhurt, he was nabbed by residents while trying to run away from the scene of the incident.

PHOTOS: Lagos Police Arrest 27-Year-Old with Locally Made Gun, Live Cartridges

Policemen attached to the Ojodu Division of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended a 27-year-old man named Oladimeji Hassan for possessing a locally made gun and 25 live cartridges.

The police shared images of the suspect on its official X media handle on Tuesday.

The accompanying caption states: "Oladimeji Hassan, a 27-year-old male, was arrested at Berger earlier today by Ojodu Division officers. Following a search, he was found in possession of a locally made gun and 25 live cartridges. The investigation is currently underway."

Kwara Gov mourns death of spiritual leader of C&S Movt Adefila

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commiserated with the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement worldwide on the death of their General Overseer and spiritual leader Baba Aladura Dr. Samuel Adefila Abidoye.

On behalf of the people and government of Kwara State, the Governor sends his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the spiritual leader, the people of Omu Aran, and the C&S Movement family worldwide on the sad event.

The Governor said the late Baba Aladura made tremendous impacts as a religious leader with tentacles across the world and significant contributions to the wellbeing of his people.

Obi Donates N20m To Enugu Hospital

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has donated N20 million to the Faith Foundation Mission Hospital in Enugu State to set up a College of Nursing Sciences.

The former governor of Anambra State revealed this in a post on his X handle on Monday, November 13.

According to him, the act is in line with his commitment to investing in critical areas of national development including health, education, and poverty eradication.

His caption read, "Over the weekend, I visited Nsukka in Enugu State, where I donated N20 million to the Faith Foundation Mission Hospital, Nsukka. This is in line with my consistent commitment to investing in the most critical areas of national development, namely: health, education, and poverty eradication.

"The donation is my initial support to the hospital through the Anglican Bishop of Nsukka, Rt Rev. Aloysius Agbo, to help them commence the building of a College of Nursing Sciences.

"Healthcare workers are at the centre of Primary Healthcare delivery, which is the foundation of any credible healthcare system.

"We must, therefore, take the training of healthcare workers more seriously, especially now that our dear nation and the global world are running short of these healthcare professionals.

"I thank the Bishop and his entire team at Faith Foundation Hospital for making this bold move to set up a College of Nursing Sciences.

"I will continue to support projects that will bring development to our nation and be beneficial to Nigerians, for in so doing, we will be able to build the New Nigeria of our dreams."

Daniel Okafor, the second son to actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has debunked claims by Stella Okafor, the actor's wife, that Jasmine, Mr. Ibu's adopted child, hijacked his bank account.

Stella took to her Instagram page on Sunday to allege that Jasmine hijacked the bank account where money was donated for the ailing actor by well-meaning Nigerians.

Her post partly read, "I do not have access to the main Access bank account where people make donations. It is being secretly controlled by Jazmine yet she is cooking up all kinds of lies and propaganda against me to keep absolute control of that account. How she manipulated her way and took control of that account is a story for another day."

“I do not want to be involved with the online drama, at least not yet. I am more concerned for Daddy's well-being,” she said.

Jasmine suggested that our correspondent speak with Mr. Ibu's son, who introduced himself as Daniel Okafor.

"My name is Daniel Okafor; I am John Okafor's second son.

"There is no truth in what Stella Maris has been sharing online. Jasmine does not have access to that account; I have access to it. I am the signatory to the account and my father's next of kin."

Daniel also disclosed that Stella Maris is his stepmother, refusing to share more details about his mother.

"She is my step mother. My mother is not around at the moment," Daniel said.

The Kwara State Government has again expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Army for her role in the fight against insecurity, insurgency and other related issues in the country.

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq gave the commendation while receiving General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Ibadan Oyo of the Nigerian Army, Major General Valentine Okoro in his office.

Governor AbdulRazaq who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi acknowledged the sacrifices and dedication to service by the officers of the Nigerian Army and indeed all other security forces in the country.

He noted the attendant effects of insecurity to include economic stagnation, panicking, poverty and loss of life among other negative effects.

He expressed the readiness of the government of Kwara to join hands with security agencies to rid the state and the country at large of the threats to our peace and national security.

Earlier, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Ibadan Oyo of the Nigerian Army, Major General Valentine Okoro explained that he was in the state on a familiarization mission to 22 Armored Brigade, Sobi, as one of the formations and unit under his command.

He expressed delight at the robust working relationship between the Government of Kwara state and the Nigerian Army, adding that such cooperation would bring about more desirable results to the people.

He stated that the Nigerian Army is poised and ready to drive security and confront all forms of insecurity bedeviling the state.

PHOTOS: Lagos Taskforce Clears Makeshift Markets On Agege Rail-track

The Lagos State Taskforce led by its Chairman, CSP Shola Jejeloye, on Sunday, cleared the railway's corridor on the Agege axis of the Metropolis during one of its planned exercises designed to restore sanity along the railway corridors of the State.

This was made known in a statement signed by the Director, of Press & Public Affairs, Lagos State Taskforce, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem.

Jejeloye revealed that the exercise was intended to deter some people from conducting business on the rail tracks and to stop them from putting obstacles in the way of trains' efficient operation.

He said “The activities of these traders are defacing the outlook of the rail tracks by setting up these slums and makeshift buildings here, but we will make sure that we leave no form of environmental crime unchecked.

“We have made an irreversible decision to carry out operations and remain here to discourage them from returning. This singular operation is just the tip of the iceberg but the major activities are coming up in the coming weeks.”

REVIEW OF N8, 000 CASH TRANSFER

You will agree with me that it has become part of the culture of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to constantly dialogue with Nigerians who voted him into office. The President covenanted with Nigerians that their welfare and security will be topmost in the Renewed Hope Agenda of his government.

In the last few days, the conventional and new media platforms have become awash with stories of the government intending to embark on conditional cash transfer to vulnerable households mostly affected by the painful but necessary decision to remove subsidy from petrol.

The story has been widely reported that the Federal Government is proposing to give 12 million households from the poorest of the poor N8,000 monthly for a period of six months as government palliative to reduce the discomfort being experienced by Nigerians consequent upon subsidy removal.

A lot of ill-informed imputations have been read into the programme by not a few naysayers. The Administration believes in the maxim that when there is prohibition, there must be provision. Since subsidy, the hydra-headed monster threatening to kill the economy, has been stopped, government has emplaced a broad spectrum of reliefs to bring help to Nigerians.

While it should be noted that cash programme is not the only item in the whole gamut of relief package of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a listening leader who has vowed to always put Nigerians at the heart of his policy and programme, the President has directed as follows:-

1. That the N8,000 conditional cash transfer programmed envisaged to bring succour to most vulnerable households be reviewed immediately. This is in deference to the views expressed by Nigerians against it.

2. That the whole gamut of palliative package of government be unveiled to Nigerians.

3. Immediate release of fertilisers and grains to approximately 50 million farmers and households respectively in all the 36 states and the FCT.

The President further assures Nigerians that the N500 billion approved by parliament to cushion the pain occasioned by the end of subsidy regime will be judiciously utilised. The beneficiaries of the reliefs shall be Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic, religious or political affiliation.

President Bola Tinubu has promised to always prioritize the wellbeing of Nigerians and he is irrevocably committed to the vow. A number of decisions taken so far by this Administration have buttressed this stance.

You will recall that the President took a similar decision after listening to complaints from the business community/stakeholders about burdensome taxes, particularly multiplicity of taxes they are made to experience. This warranted the signing of four (4) Executive Orders cancelling some classes of taxes, while suspending the implementation dates of others.

In addition, the President has also set up a Tax Reform/Fiscal Policy Committee to bring up recommendations that will engender a wholesome fiscal environment for the country and remove anti-business barriers.

I wish to assure Nigerians that President Tinubu will continue to be a listening leader whose ears will not be dull to the views expressed by the citizenry. The President believes government exists to cater for the interest of the people and he has demonstrated this so clearly.
