Guerrilla chief takes over Sony Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida leaves as President
Hermen Hulst replaced Sean Leyden, who retired in early October.
Hermen Hulst, co-founder of guerrilla Games, also owned by Sony, will be the new head of Sony Worldwide Studios, which coordinates all of Sony's internal studios. Hulst will take up his new post immediately.
As head of Sony Worldwide Studios, Hermen will lead development at all 14 of Sony's internal studios. Simultaneously with his appointment, Shuhei Yoshida will leave the post of President of Worldwide Studios: he will develop relations with external, independent studios.
The reshuffle in the leadership of Sony's gaming division is being carried out as part of a restructuring taking place before the launch of the PlayStation 5. Hulst's predecessor, Sean Leyden, left office in early October.
Although Shuhei Yoshida will no longer be President of Worldwide Studios, he remains one of the top executives and reports directly to Jim Ryan, head of Sony's gaming division. According to Ryan, indie developers and their projects remain important to Sony.
