Religious scholar Sheikh Mohammad Al-Awadhi on Monday strongly defended millions of living in the country, saying they have been a target of discrimination in Kuwait. In a video message to Interior Minister Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, the scholar, Sheikh Mohammad Al-Awadhi, said prejudiced people in are falsely blaming all problems on expats.
“May God help you over the loud voices of bigots in the country who falsely claim that expats are the cause of all disasters in Kuwait, when the truth is exactly the contrary,” Awadhi said. He said there are exceptions among expats, but in most cases it is the “corrupt citizens” who facilitate matters for them to commit crimes, adding that some Kuwaitis create problems and law-abiding, respected expats pay the price. Sheikh Awadhi appealed to the interior minister to ease conditions for expats to be able to bring their wives and children to the country, which has increasingly become a second home for expats.
