We were all at a Saturday night meeting and planned to go see the new clubhouse and meeting facility that we had just leased that day. Corners had to leave a few minutes before we did to get to work. He worked in recover and had just gotten certified as a counselor.
As we all got are helmets on Corners came around to say goodbye, fired up his bike, and took off. The chapter formed up about 5 minutes later and we left to see the new facility. Two blocks from there, we road up on the accident. A tow truck driver had turned left on a red light, right in from of Corners, he was killed instantly.
Corners story is a inspiration to all who try to change their life after addiction.
He grew up in a normal home with good parents, but like so many of us, felt alone and different. Corners spent a little over 20 years on the streets, many of those years he was homeless and in and out of jail. All of his crimes were drug related and violations. The last time he got out, he ran into one of our club brothers at a meeting and he told him that he wanted to do what we do.
Judge told him fine get a bike and stay clean.
Corners saved $20 dollars out of each check till he finally had $5000.00 and bought a friends Harley. That night he showed up at a meeting with the bike and said he was ready. Corners found the miracle, before he died, he had two Haley's, a car, an education, a job, plus a great girlfriend.
What he cherished most was the God he found, the peace he got in recovery, and the satisfaction from helping others.
I know this because he was my friend, my brother, and my sponsee.
