👊🏻💥A freaking AMERICAN HERO! What a badass dad! 👊🏻💥

"Matthew Phillips was about to take his daughter to daycare when a man approached their car holding a rifle, asking for money and the car. The rifle was pointed at the back window, where his daughter was sitting. Phillips quickly agreed, and when the man came around to the driver's side window Phillips quickly took the rifle away from him. Disarmed his attacker almost immediately in an incredibly ballsy move. The man revealed another gun, though, firing three times at the truck. One bullet ricocheted and hit Phillips in the mouth.

But Phillips kept up the fight because he knew what he was protecting in the backseat. He got out of the vehicle, got the second gun away from the crazy guy, and then held him down (with the help of a neighbor) until law enforcement arrived on the scene.

“All I could think of was my daughter,” he told a local TV station. “You’re not getting up. You’re not taking this gun.”

Most of us hope and believe our Dad Instincts would aid us in this kind of situation, but few will face such a harrowing situation. While heroic, this act of courage was certainly dangerous, and we don't recommend the same tactic for everyone. But props to this dad who had the skill and determination to protect his family.

Phillips is moving his family after the violent attack and said even after getting shot, he’d do it again “in a heartbeat” to protect his daughter.

“That’s all there is to it,” he said. “It’s for her. Anything.”

Hershel "Woody" Williams, America's last surviving WWII veteran to have received a Medal of Honor, passed away Wednesday morning. The 98-year-old received his medal for heroism during the battle of Iwo Jima.

We hope to God that our sons could be this caliber of men.
