WELCOME OFFICER MAGIC🐴
We'd like to introduce you to a new, furry addition to our ranks: a miniature #horse named Magic. Standing at two feet tall, Magic is the first mini horse to be sworn in as an honorary #policeofficer for the City of Ocala.
Though she doesn't have much #lawenforcement experience, Magic has been specially trained to provide emotional support to people in times of need.
Magic is part of an award-winning nonprofit organization called, Gentle Carousel—one of the largest #equine therapy programs in the world. Gentle Carousel visits thousands of adults and children each year inside hospitals, hospice programs, suffering families, veterans, and #firstresponders who have experienced traumatic events.
Not only do Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses bring support and comfort to those who have experienced violence or tragedy, but they also engage with youth through literacy programs and other activities.
We're happy to announce this new partnership between Gentle Carousel and our police agency. Officer Magic will occasionally work on some of our outreach programs, including our Polar Patrol ice cream program, and our R.E.A.D. literacy program.
"Magic will help spread goodwill and build relationships between the police department and the community we serve," Chief Mike Balken said. "With her friendly personality and adorable appearance, Magic is sure to be a hit with everyone she meets."
We're looking forward to this new partnership with Gentle Carousel!

SECURE YOUR FIREARMS!
In this body-worn camera video, officers retrieve a stolen handgun from an 18-year-old woman. The actual owner of the handgun left the unsecured firearm inside an unlocked vehicle overnight. Please, remember to never leave valuables—especially guns—in your vehicle unattended. Don’t let your gun get into the wrong hands.
On Oct. 22, #Ocala #Police Officers responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot at Pavilion Oaks Apartments.
Officer Dowell was the first to arrive and approached the suspicious vehicle. While speaking with the four occupants, the officer could smell raw marijuana coming from inside the car. When Officers Zarate and Graham arrived, police began to remove the occupants from the vehicle, starting with rear passenger Jonina Johnson, 18, who refused to exit.
Ofc. Graham removed Johnson from the car and she was placed in handcuffs. Ofc. Zarate then conducted a pat down search of Johnson and found a concealed 9mm handgun with an extended magazine from her waistband. The firearm was reported stolen out of Ocala.
Johnson was also found to have marijuana and methamphetamine in her possession. Johnson was transported to the Marion County jail. She now faces felony charges including, grand theft of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine.

IT IS WITH GREAT SADNESS THAT WE SHARE THE LOSS OF BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE RETIRED K-9 “SHADOW” WHO WAS LAID TO REST EARLIER TODAY
Earlier today members of our Brevard County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and various Law Enforcement Agencies from across the county said goodbye to retired K-9 “Shadow” who served our agency from 2011 until retiring in 2019.
While Father Time caught up with K-9 “Shadow,” it didn’t stop him from taking one last hit on the bite sleeve as is tradition in our agency for our K-9 Heroes, as we say goodbye to them.
K-9 “Shadow” officially began his career with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office in 2011 where he served as a dual purpose patrol and narcotics K-9, until his retirement in 2019. Throughout his career he had numerous criminal apprehensions, narcotics discoveries, and also participated in countless demonstrations at schools and events. “Shadow” proudly served our agency and citizens for 8 years prior to his well deserved retirement from the job!!
“Shadow” lived a spoiled retired life at home with Corporal Roth’s family and never truly retired as in his new duties he was assigned to keep watch over Corporal Roth’s daughter who was born shortly after his official retirement.
In his final patrol car ride K-9 “Shadow” was escorted by our K-9 Units, K-9 Handlers from our partner law enforcement agencies throughout the county, and K-9 Handlers from Patrick Space Force Base to his final resting place in Titusville.
A special thank you to our great friends at Animal Specialty and Emergency Hospital in Viera and Best Friend’s Cremation in Titusville for their kind and compassionate care of our furry hero, K-9 “Shadow!!”
