Nationalians, don’t miss the opportunity to explore the history of Philippine komiks at the Kenkoy 95th Anniversary Komiks Exhibit from October 22-29, 2024, at the NU Museum! This week-long art exhibit is organized by the College of Education, Arts, and Sciences in collaboration with the NU Legacy Office as part of the Humanities Department’s initiative for Art Appreciation courses. The exhibit is curated by Mr. Damian Velasquez III, AB Communication faculty and grandnephew of Tony Velasquez.

Kenkoy, created by Mr. Tony Velasquez (1910-1997), is the first comic book character in the Philippines and is often called the Father of Philippine Komiks. This exhibit aims to highlight the rich history of comic book art and celebrate Kenkoy’s significance as the country’s first true pop icon, making it especially relevant during Museums and Galleries Month in October.
