One year ago, today we have lost one of the most beloved characters of GoT: Daenerys Targaryen. While everyone is mourning her death, I feel it is best to also address the character assassination of Jon Snow. This honorable man was raised as a bastard and was shunned for his status without him knowing of his true heritage. The notion of who his mother was has haunted him for the rest of his life and this secret besmirched Ned Stark’s honor. Jon’s parentage was never made known to the rest of Westeros as the true heir to the throne. This man has risked his life and fought bravely to preserve the rest of humanity to fight the dead. Jon, the Prince that was Promised, Azir Ahai, was neglected by the writers as the savior of Westeros and instead the title of Hero was bestowed upon Arya who had sacrificed nothing to fight the White Walkers and she gets all the credit. The writers have done us a huge disservice to not address Jon’s claim to the throne in the final episode of the series and he was sent to the Wall again. Jon, reluctantly accepts and is forced to give up his name and his family once more, knowing full well that the House of Targaryen dies with him. Arguably, in my opinion, Jon Snow was the key to GoT, and he was ignored for the sake of subversion. Don’t get me wrong, I still believe Dany was done a huge disservice as well, but that is nothing compared to what happened with Jon. Daenerys, in my opinion, was always going to be the final villain, but I completely agree that the writers botched it and rushed through it. I just want my opinion to be accepted as much as I accept yours.
