This will be a major blow to the fuel sector as the company operated 9 service stations locally over its 11 year tenure in Dominica. Nurses who have left Dominica for greener pastures speak about how their lives have changed since they migrated. They noted they struggled to pay rent, bills and other basic nesessities of life. Presently they are buying houses, cars and other luxurious items they could only dream of in Dominica.

DBN after seeing this article by The Sun newspaper decided to do some research on the matter. Some Dominican nurses and Doctors were contacted about their working experience in Dominica. They have stated that much improvement needs to be done.They noted, although they are appreciative of the new hospital, it lacks the basic amenities. The necessary equipment for advance treatment is not readily available. Machines like CT Scans, MRI machines, and X-Ray machines should be readily available since they are key to diagnosing medical problems (readily available meaning that there is only one machine and it's not functioning for some time, there is no one to operate it, or read the results or having to wait a rediculous period of time to get an appointment).There are times when individuals have to travel to neighbouring islands to get certain scans done a doctor stated. Something which he considered to be madness in 2022.

Nurses also noted that there is the concept of nurses being placed on contract which could further diminish the value of the job through loss of job security. A doctor who has worked years in Dominica blatantly stated to DBN that's the worst he has seen Dominica's medical system. Do you know of any similar stories, what are your thoughts? Leave a comment. Budget Day In Dominica Today and here was the high light as Presented by a good friend Ray. Meanwhile Skerrit Boasting his POWA BREAKFAST.....

Ray Francis says,

Prime Minister Skerrit presented a National Budget for 2.5 hours - a 59 page budget - and never mentioned the word inflation even ONCE. Not one time. Meanwhile, at the end of June, inflation in the US was reported at over 9%, the highest in 40 years. Dominicans don't need me to tell them about the impact of inflation - they shop at the supermarkets, pay Domlec monthly and have to fill up their cars at the petrol stations. Dominican families are buckling under the pressure of rising prices and stagnant incomes, yet there was nothing of substance in this budget to address the needs of our people. There will be no pay increases for civil servants beyond the pathetic 1.5% previously negotiated with the Unions. He will remove the VAT on Domlec's fuel surcharge - VAT that he put on himself in 2006 and was told then and every year after that it was a bad idea and was disproportionately affecting poor people. Skerrit's taxes contributes SIGNIFICANTLY to your high electricity bill. On this his 19th Budget Presentation as Prime Minister, Mr. Skerrit put forward the most lackluster, vexing and impotent budgetary plan that I have ever seen. I have worked in finance for a long time and I am shocked at this presentation. I didn't think Mr. Skerrit could get worse at his job - but I am sad to announce that I was wrong. This Labour Party Administration led by Mr. Skerrit is discovering new lows. What a waw.

an excerpt from 2007 TIMES NEWSPAPER ARTICLE BY MATT PELTIER

“MILLION DOLLAR ASSETS, $5000.00 SALARY”

“Our investigations reveal that on August 8th, 2005, Prime Minister Skerrit purchased a 2.06-acre portion of the Hartington Estate in Trafalgar.

On September 1st, 2005, he purchased an additional 2.989 acres – part of the Wallhouse Estate. Indications are Skerrit paid cash in the Trafalgar transaction and secured bank financing for not more than 33% percent of the 2005 market price of the Wallhouse land.

Professionals in the field of land valuation indicate that at the time of purchase, fair market value for the Hartington Estate property was approximately $448,000.00, while the value estimate for the Wallhouse Property was $650,000.00.

It however appears from the registration documents that the land was purchased for about $1.00 a square foot in the case of the Wall house property and $1.01 per square foot for the Trafalgar acquisition.

Since land in both areas have been sold at significantly higher rates, these suggested purchase prices raise questions about the land values used for the purpose of calculating taxes paid to the government for registration and the transfers of title to Skerrit.

Observers are noting that both acquisitions surfaced in the wake of the 2005 general election – an event characterized by the Dominica Labour Party’s lavish multi-million dollar spending at a time when it was burdening citizens with the most painful economic adjustment programme in the history of this country.

It is now widely expected that Mr. Skerrit will explain how he has been able to secure these and other personal assets conservatively valued at well over one million dollars on his legal income as a Minister of Government since February 2000……
