In the fall of 2018 a friend asked me to try Fortnite. I had never played a shooter using a keyboard and mouse. I didn’t know what “building” was or farming materials. I had no desk, just a TV no monitor, and a foldout table to play at. I poured hours into that game trying to obtain skills to just get my hands to do what my brain was telling them. I loved the idea that the skill cap was so high and there would always be leaps of improvement to be made. There was an unnamed location on the map of Ch1 S5 know only has Season 5 at the time because no one knew there would be chapters or if the game would takeoff enough to be sustained. That location became known as “the boat” to our squad. It didn’t matter where the drop path was or what had been marked as a landing location. Someone would yell “boat” and jump the bus for it everytime. I would liken the map changes overtime, and squad changes, to going outside to play with your friends as a kid and never knowing the last time was the last time. With the return of the map and that location it feels like “getting to go outside and play with your friends again”. It won’t last long and getting to experience it again with skills you didn’t have the first time is incredibly fun. Whatever it is that you have done in the past, that are fond memories with friends, I hope it’s an experience you get to have again.
