Every time I get the camera out this guys sits like a poser think I’ve conditioned him! Ops 😆
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE STRUGGLES TRAVELLING ON THE ROAD THAT PEOPLE DON’T TALK ABOUT
Will go first….. 😂 in all seriousness though what is something you have dealt with on the road that just comes with travelling but isn’t talked about?
I’m sure everyone can relate to both of Dave’s topics the mess and the hair. 😛
Taking a moment to enjoy and appreciate the beautiful morning & the precious moments! #morning #workingfromtheroad #caravanning #hipcamp
For anyone who is struggling with reactivity or aggressive behaviour in your pups this is a reminder the hard work will pay off… keep pushing, with every small win you achieve there is a bigger goal at play.
Not all dogs are the same so this journey is a very individual one but when you find a shift in your pups outlook, confidence, obedience and relationships especially with you… life looks a lot larger! Boundaries are understood & good choices are made more often.
Keep at it! It’s so worth it! You got this!

AFTERNOON DIP
Everyone loves a river swim, we are so lucky to just duck down to the river and be able to do this. The kids loved exploring while the dogs loves running through the water and finding the bigger holes to swim in.
Max had a sun bake on the Kayak he loves the water for swimming but doesn’t like being wet it’s a husky thing apparently.
And Dave and I got to enjoy the fact both kids and dogs were entertained and having fun in natured backyard. Was a beautiful way to spend the day.
Rusty and I have been working on some new skills or it is one I think his ready for, he has killer rear end awareness this boy, love to mentally work out what I’m asking and his bored 🥱 and keen to learn more. How do I know, well he keeps turning the touch lights on and off when I’m watching tv and then walking over to me like mum I did a thing!
His definitely i high drive dog but to his credit it’s crazy to see his anxiety & fear turn to confidence when his training and learning!
I’ll update to progress as we both improve!
When training your dogs it’s so important to look at what works for you, not what everyone else is doing. I have been asked by a few people why I walk Dash on the right & this is why, having four dogs I very rarely am walking one dog, Dash and max are a walking pair they know their position and very rarely break that when we walk together.
Basically do what works for you and your dogs!
ITS STORM SEASON!
Happens that storm season is in full swing we have now fixed everything & replaced the Dynabolt’s and added a few more to the kennel, everything has been repaired.
Luckily no dogs were in the kennels, when we have storms like this the dogs are always inside the house when we have warning. When we don’t have warning they are given access to the house & they all know the drill & make a quick exit towards mud room in our house.
Just means we will make the kennels even more bullet proof for the next one! #farmlife #dogsafety #kennels
What are you going to do more of which your pups in 2024?
4 TIPS FOR MAKING TRAVELLING EASIER WITH DOGS
1. PLAN AHEAD
This involves speaking with people before you arrive at a property, campsite etc and making sure they are aware you have dogs. This will sometimes be the only way to obtain information on animals that might be around, how close you are to other campers and potentially secure an appropriate site so everyone can enjoy their holidays.
2. KNOW YOUR DOGS TRIGGERS
Dogs are not perfect they have triggers and travelling brings a lot of uncertainty to your dogs so they act out more often. If your dog is not friendly with other dogs that ok, as long as you have a plan for when that arises that is respectful for your dog and others. If your dog has never seen a kangaroo before and your going somewhere that may present this obstacle be prepared with a plan e.g. leads treats on you at all times, or maybe a fav toy etc triggers are able to be worked around in a positive way but only if you have a plan.
3. HAVE THE RIGHT GEAR
Where are your dogs sleeping? Do you have enrichment toys? Comfort toys? Long leads? Is your equipment camping caravan or other suitable for the trip you are doing. If you don’t have the right gear you will find yourself becoming increasing frustrated which will make it hard for everyone including your dogs to enjoy the time away.
4. BE READY TO CHANGE PLANS
Sometimes you might arrive at a campsite that everything sounded amazing but when you arrive you realise it just won’t work for your dogs. Those are the times you might need a plan B & sometimes these situations are not ideal but as long as you have a positive attitude and your ready to be able to switch plans you will make it work.
Remember travelling with dogs isn’t easy at times but if your prepared and willing to make it work then you will do just that!

Finding shade for these guys with such a big rig can be a challenge, but in this heat 30-40 degrees we have no choice but to find shade or keep driving so this spot we may have used a few times now when getting supplies in this town 😂
TIP - NEW SOUNDS IN NEW SPACES 😜
Just for a moment pretend you are a dog, your family is taking you on a holiday, one your hoomans are all excited about, and a little stressed about with all the packing and pre trip preparations.
Your hoomans place you in a space unfamiliar to you with all these new sounds. You don’t know if the sounds are good or bad if they will hurt you or help you and you don’t know where to go to get away from the sounds because your normal safe spaces being your comfy bed, kennel, or spot on your couch isn’t there instead your in a new space and your a little confused.
Well that’s exactly how max feels in this little snippet, how did we find this sound to be an issue, by simply placing him in a space that he will be spending time on our trip and started packing when I went to open a draw we found this issue. So it’s now a training opportunity that we can work on before hitting the road.
Especially when considering multiple dogs on the road, it makes things a lot easier to tackle these smaller things at home, with time and patience.
We are hitting the road with all four dogs & the kids for what should be a great trip. Along the way we’re going to be sharing our tips on travelling with dogs especially multiple dogs, answering any questions, concerns or fears about travelling with dogs.
We will share the tough moments as well as the fun ones cause that is reality! Diets, sleeping arrangements and so much more.
Will also give you a run down on each of our dogs to help people appreciate we don’t have the perfect dogs but we manage what we can and have been doing it for many years.
Hoping we can inspire people to take your furry friends on your next adventure.
Beautiful weekend with great mates up in the blue mountains. Dash is loves having some of his favourite travelling friends around him.
PART TWO:
So as I mentioned in part one, a big goal for me has been to safely tap into Rusty’s toy drive. This boy is food motivated but food isn’t always available. I also know that being able to tap into this drive safely would fulfil him in so many ways that food just can’t.
Having an aggressive dog who can be unpredictable I really needed to understand how to do this correctly & safely @forrestmicke definitely gave me the confidence & technique needed to get Rusty crazy excited 😜 but also targeting the right areas. Can’t thank Forrest enough for taking the time to trust in Rusty & also provide me with the skills to keep moving this boy forward in another skill!
Well we did it! For those following Rusty’s journey you would know the frustration heartache & emotions this boy has put us through over the last two years of so.
However the hardest part has been reaching a point where there is no more YouTube, no more podcasts nothing that can give you a direction forward. You see in the early stages of aggression, fear reactivity, and most behaviour issues there is so much information to help you put a plan together that pushes you forward, gives you direction and allows you to feel and see progress. There are heaps of trainers that can help you with the beginning stages too if you choose that path.
However at least in my experience you then hit a point where you now need experts not trainers, they are expensive & they can’t spend the time with your dog to analyse the dogs information. The information out there is no longer in abundance and you hit a stale mate.
That’s where Rusty and I were at, I feel meds was mentioned more because people feel there is no more progress to be made. I have fought so hard for that to be challenged at every turn and I’m so glad I have.
So this seminar was more about Rusty and I finding our groove again and a forward path with direction and I think we found it in toy play.
Head to part two to see the full story!
Well one more drive day and then it all begins, for those that have followed Rusty’s journey you would know it hasn’t been easy but I feel good about the next few days.
