We noticed a recent surge in engagement across our platforms so thank you from the bottom of our 💚. Also a quick update on CB’s plans moving forward…
CB x BEATPORT: UKRAINE FUNDRAISER
Community Bread is excited to team up again with our mates from Beatport, this time for a special installment of ReConnect in aid of the devastating humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. Taking place at public records this Sunday 13th of March (from 8pm-2am EST), this livestream fundraiser and live event (with strictly limited capacity) features a heavy-weight lineup of talent including MIKE SERVITO, Victor Calderone, Julia Govor, Moren### Masha-Maria Koblyakova, & CB’s own Arthur Kozlovski
Throughout the duration of the multi-hour stream across Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube, viewers can make donations, with the funds directly benefiting those most affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine. LGBTQIA+ community, and more. With the forced displacement of millions of people, Choose Love Ukraine aims to provide safety and hope for many in this desperate time of need.
The event will be free with RSVP, with donations collected at the door (RSVP and donate via link in bio). This is the time for our community to step forward and not only show solidarity but support those that are unjustly facing this escalating crisis in Ukraine. This NYC installment is part of.ReConnect’s mammoth 20hr global livestream fundraiser taking place in Berlin, Lisbon, Sydney, Bali and more. Stay tuned for more updates. And as always tune in & drop out this Sunday and #StandWithUkraine 💙💛
BTS sneak peak of a filmed segment for a retrospective of Community Bread Creative Director Paul Bui 15 years body of work across fashion, film & music as part of a special exhibit happening at Powerhouse Museum in Oct. He talks extensively about Community Bread & the importance of carving out more space for those that have felt 'Othered' More details about the exhibit soon…
Community Bread first venture into the IRL rave world was beyond all expectations. This wouldn’t be possible without the fab artists, our lighting guru @kip_davis, the venue & staff, the amazing dancers & of course our brilliant partners Fourth World 💚 @tinpan_scally & @richardggamble thank you for trusting in us & letting us collaborate with what is undoubtedly NYC’s most treasured rave. We’ve been dancing at Fourth World for yrs, so to have CB’s first IRL debut be in partnership with one of our fav events was truly a dream come true. 🥰💚
That dream was realized in The Bredbox on Friday night. If you’ve watched a Community Bread livestream before, you’d know that our taste spans the gauntlet from Chicago house to hip hop to fast-paced techno. But we deliberately dialed up the intensity in The Bredbox to a specific vibe. We’ve spent 18 months off the dance floor, broke and mostly alone. Now that NYC is opening up, we wanted this rave reunion, to be a huge release of energy, rage & euphoria. ⚡️
Why waste a second with warm up, head-bopping sets when (as we’ve sadly learnt) every second on the dancefloor is precious, esp when it’s taken away. So we planned The Bredbox to be blisteringly 🔥 from the get-go. In keeping with Community Bread mission of elevating marginalized voices, every artists booked to play there was also an LGBTQ+ and/or BIPOC individual. 🌈
And they all read our minds, because every artist at FOURTH WORLD 2021 x Community Bread brought the 🔥 Thank you to all incredible talent, esp to those that tore The Bredbox - Lauren Flax Justin Cudmore TT, Pauli Cakes Akua @antpuke @thebussycatdoll Word of Command @memphy & Sausha De La Ossa. We haven’t felt that primal energy radiating through a room in ages.
It was truly special. And clearly, that cage - nearly collapsing towards the end from ravers dancing so wildly - was much needed. Again, thank you FOURTH WORLD 2021 for never once questioning our intuition &
Recap of True Music Pride Edition curated by Community Bread & presented by beatport & ballantines whisky
One of our proudest moments this Pride was when Beatport & Ballantine's whisky asked Community Bread to curate a special Pride edition for True Music, a spectacular initiative showcasing local talent from across the country.. For this installment we booked Shyboi The Carry Nation Jasmine Infiniti & Quest?onmarq & our fab host Xander Gaines. 💚 🌈💫
Why? Not only are they all NYC treasures and trailblazers in our underground LGBTQ+ techno scene but we wanted to make sure the lineup is mainly comprised of talented POC artists. Not only because their sickening sets deserve to be heard, and not placed on lineups as vapid gestures of tokenism. But we wanted to share our vision of a rave utopia, where LGBQT+ & BIPOC artists make up most of, if not the entire lineup. Watch this recap while it may look like it’s from the future it was yesterday. So let’s make it happen.💚
Thank you to Beatport Ballantine's whisky everyone that tuned in and of course the four extraordinary artists Shyboi, @the carry nation Jasmine Infiniti & Quest?onmarq & our fab magical host Xander Gaines, who are not only unapologetically true to their craft but subversive in their approach to music. We’re so impressed snd our hearts are full of pride.

We don’t think there’s anything we can write about HE VALENCIA stream for Community Bread V: Josey Rebelle, Seth Troxler, D.Dan, Rachel Noon & more will do it justice, A skillfully executed, poignant and beautifully cosmic expedition through techno’s time & space, we were truly gagged by what HE VALENCIA served up for Community Bread V: Josey Rebelle, Seth Troxler, D.Dan, Rachel Noon & more livestream fundraiser. His full stream is now live for individual viewing on our site (🔗 in bio). If you enjoyed, pls donate if you can. Donations close midnight tonight & 100% of funds raised will be split amongst the artists and the incredible charity org @trevorproject. 💚
While at first a wild card, HE VALENCIA incredible stream turned out to be one of the highlights of the night. This is not just according to us but also from so many of our friends and fam, blowing up our phones during the stream - equally gagged. A deeply thoughtful yet joyful foray, spirally through the coils of techno’s rich history HE VALENCIA teases us early on with the familiar build up of the 1999 techno classic ‘Knights of Jaguar’ by UR’s DJ Rolando before weaving in more recent dance floor bangers like Repro’s haunting ‘Believe in Credit.’ Only in hindsight - after sweating it out to him closing with the relentless. hazey groove of Perc Trax’s ‘Scorched’ by Advent - that we realized we had just been schooled. You can take from this stream, what you need - learn from it, dance to it, get lost in it. Whatever the case, @he_valencia tasteful yet unpretentious selection proves that more than just being a wild card, he’s truly a master at his craft. We’re so honored to welcome HE VALENCIA into the CB fam. 💚

In the NYC underground music scene, it would be true to say that there are many that talk the talk, but very few actually walk the walk. If this pandemic has shown us anything, it’s everyone’s true colors. And as if we ever needed any further proof, let’s just say that multi-disciplinary artist (and co-founder of CB beloved collective DisCakes Pauli Cakes delivered such a dynamic, powerful audio/visual stream for CB V that we would happily live under their rainbow for eternity. Their full stream is now live for individual viewing on our site (www.comunitybread.co). If you enjoyed, pls donate if you can. Donations close at midnight tonight & 100% of funds raised will be split amongst the artists and the incredible charity org The Trevor Project 💚🌈💫
Paired with vibrant, mesmerizing visuals (which Pauli Cakes created themselves), the skilled Brooklyn based DJ/artist/activist conjured up this closer of all closers for Community Bread V: Josey Rebelle, Seth Troxler, D.Dan, Rachel Noon & more livestream fundraiser. A high-octane sprint to the finish, @pauli.cakes manages to merge rapid-fire techno with raucous vogue beats and punchy pop moment effortlessly. It’s a sound that many are trying their hand at right now, but we can safely say that Pauli really pioneered this sound & energy not only through their heart racing DJ sets (as evident here) but also their event curation through DisCakes, activist work as a vocal abolitionist and pretty much anything they’re involved in. We first got to know Pauli on set for the first campaign shoot of fabulous sustainable, gender-flexible brand Hecha / 做 NYC (another treasured CB collective). We were completely captivated by Pauli’s magic then, just as we are with every second of this incredible stream now. So honored to have Pauli Cakes join the CB fam. 💚🌈💫

Recap video by @louisiane____
With our Community Breadlineups there’s often a wild-card, a DJ who we’ve never danced to before IRL but whose musical sensibilities & ethos strike a chord with us when we’re doing our regular rounds of music digging. At the last Community Bread livestream fundraiser this wildcard was peachlyfe and the one before that was High Future and we all know how that turned out 🥰💫💚
For this installment we were very intrigued by Indiana based DJ, producer, theorist and historian HE VALENCIA who’s been active in the music scene since 2008. You may be familiar with him through his popular cultural-commentary insta account Moma ps5 Some might even question if this is why we booked him. The answer would be no and yes. Firstly - as we’ve stated in several interviews - we never book DJs based on clout, status or following. We’ve had artists on the bill with hundreds of thousands of followers alongside artists with a thousand followers. It is of no importance to us.
What matters is obviously their taste in music, but also whether they’ve made a positive impact in their local communities, & is aligned with Community Bread mission of carving out more space for marginalized voices. And through Moma ps5's anti-colonialist and no-holds-barred stance on identity politics, esp when it comes to racial & economic justice, we have to admit, yes we did feel there was a match here.
But of course, HE VALENCIA is playing a stream not doing a conversation because his DJ sets are equally as compelling as his insights. Drawing from an amalgamation of influences, HE VALENCIA eclectic sets range from driving, dark, acid techno to warm soulful shades, often paying homage to Detroit and Chicago sounds. Through techno, HE VALENCIA explores the long legacy of black dance music alongside political and diasporic questions, and his upcoming stream is nothing short of unforgettable.
Tune into Community Bread V: Josey Rebelle, Seth Troxler, D.Dan, Rachel Noon & more tonight from 7pm
#JoseyRebelle is a DJ & writer from London. Hailed by Mixmag as ‘the genre-bending DJ dominating top-tier dance floors worldwide’ & by The Face Magazine as ‘a hero of the UK music scene’, Essential Mix Of The Year winner Josey Rebelle has an energy & passion for underground music & club culture that has made her one of the most respected DJs in the game. Like, not even exaggerating, Josey is a legend. 💚🌟💚
With accolades, including the highly-coveted BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix of the Year 2019, DJ Mag Best Compilation 2020, Best Mixes of the Year (@Pitchfork), & Mixes of the Decade (Resident Advisor), the London born-and-bred DJ traverses genres with a fearless energy that evokes the spirit of her home city with one overwhelming priority: heavyweight selection first & foremost.
Josey was taught to DJ by her brother through his house, techno & hardcore collection when she was 13, but it was some years later that she graduated from bedroom DJ to the club, eventually earning her stripes as a resident at legendary London club Plastic People.
She has since graced the line-ups of clubs & festivals across the globe, destroying dance floors to thousands while also performing in the most intimate of settings Josey has recorded acclaimed mixes for BBC Radio 1 The FADER, Discwoman, Fact Magazine, & appeared on the very first official Boiler-Room broadcast in 2010. 💫💚
While her club sets mainly centre around house, techno & breakbeat, old and new, Josey demonstrates the full spectrum of her knowledge on her weekly Rinse FM show since 2011. More recently in 2020, Josey released her first ever licensed compilation album, Josey in Space, on Bis Records, featuring a trove of vinyl-only secret weapons from the depths of her record collection.
We’ve seen Josey play many times, & each time was a transcendental experience. Her stream this Sat (with visuals by @andrewcharlesedman) will take you there. Tune into Community Bread V: Josey Rebelle, Seth Trox
Rachel Noon has been a close family member of Community Bread for many years now. We used to frequent her femme-centered techno party L a r g e M a r g e held at Tilt in Brooklyn many moons ago. Since then, Rachel’s career has taken on its own unique trajectory that’s seen her skyrocket as an in-demand & passionate DJ, organizer, podcast host and producer. 💚🔥💚
Her obsessive devotion to community is matched only by her passion for digging, technically deft skills, and smooth, biting-fresh approach. Although she's recently relocated to Berlin, it was inside Brooklyn’s queer dance scene that Rachel credits her most important strides of the last few years. She is on regular rotation at the infamous roaming after-hours rave Unter, and is founder of the aforementioned Large Marge, an event series and platform which spotlights female-identifying and non-binary artists. Rachel's flare can be traced back to her 90s NYC rave roots, through which she has developed her own breed of energetic, groovy, retro-futuristic techno. 💫💚💫
A conversation we’ll never forget is when Rachel released her marvelous mix for Crack Magazine a year ago. We were discussing how much we enjoyed this mix, especially since it’s so aligned with the fast paced, euphoric strain of techno we’re digging at the moment. We both agreed that dancing all night to dark, heavy techno (don’t get us wrong, that can be fun too!) sometimes just doesn’t always hit the spot. But we’ll never forget Rachel words - something along the lines of “we need more light not just darkness at the rave” We couldn’t agree more. 🌟💚🌟
Please tune into Community Bread V: Josey Rebelle, Seth Troxler, D.Dan, Rachel Noon & more this Saturday to witness Rachel Noon bring this light and consider donating if you can via our website (www.communitybread.co) or RA (https://ra.co/events/1439859) All proceeds are split between the artists on the lineup and the The Trevor Project an incredible
We’ve known Yha Yha for a little while now and have always been in awe of her taste and sensibility in everything from music to style. She exudes a mesmerizing & intoxicating charisma, which is also very evident in her music.💚💫
Yha Yha’s eclectic style will send your body moving, crossing genre planes and mixing up everything from atmospheric techno to bass to vogue beats to uplifting house. While her roots as a DJ go back to San Francisco's bay area in 2016 (where she co-founded one of CB’s fav collectives New World Dysorder with Jasmine Infiniti and Cali Rose - who both played the very first CB livestream event btw), her bold emergence in Berlin has made her a standout figure in the underground nightlife scene, with INDIE Magazine donning her as ‘Berlin’s sweetheart” in 2019. She has frequented the decks for parties such as Room for Resistance, BRENN. , Buttons , Mess various magazine launches (Indie Mag, Yeoja), branded events (Absolute vodka, Beats by Dre, Isla Nails) and most recently WHOLE - United Queer Festival 💚🔥💚
What really got our attention though was her recent mix for @rhythmicculture (sound on to hear a snippet), a brooding, sexy odyssey from slow burning electro to fast paced c*nty techno. We were so enamored by this mix, we asked her to play Community Bread V: Josey Rebelle, Seth Troxler, D.Dan, Rachel Noon & more upon the first listen. Expect nothing short of this star power that only Yha Yha can deliver in her special audio/visual livestream for Community Bread V: Josey Rebelle, Seth Troxler, D.Dan, Rachel Noon & more 🌟💚🌟
Please tune into @community.bread this Saturday and consider donating if you can via our website (www.communitybread.co) or RA (🔗 in bio) All proceeds are split between the artists on the lineup and @trevorproject an incredible org that’s focused on suicide prevention efforts amongst LGBTQ+ youth. 💚🌈💫
