Good news! EP04 of Blue Dust is out! In this episode, many of the themes of trust, power and control resurface as Max makes new connections and severs others.

EP04 was edited and mixed more than a year after the first three episodes and is a product of a lot of work and time. The episode took about three months to complete. The second last chapter, although only 15 minutes long, took an entire month to create! Hopefully you’ll get a sense why when you hear it.

I believe all of this work and time paid off. EP04 is easily my favourite of the series, with a great mix of tension, drama and action that resolves in a satisfying, engaging way. I particularly enjoy the performances of Ashlee Conway as Annie and Tyler Leitao as Vertov as tensions reach their boiling point.

Editing and mixing the episode was smooth and joyful, with very few hiccups. I’d been experimenting with session organisation over the first three episodes and I believe this episode is the culmination of those lessons. The mixing is clear and the use of music, atmos and sound effects is dynamic or subtle where necessary. Overall, I’m very proud of the episode and I think that it’s an excellent final episode in the series.

Again, I’d like to thank everyone who has listened to the show so far. If you have any questions, or you would like to speak with me directly, feel free to contact me at [email protected]

Finally, I’d especially like to thank Danny Hesz and Quynh Nguyen for being so supportive throughout the years that I created Blue Dust.

As usual, you can listen to Blue Dust on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Pocket Casts, Overcast, or at the anchor website.

Hello! In a recent blogpost, I described the preproduction phase when creating Blue Dust, including writing the script, working with my brother to create the logo, creating the casting call, and much more.

Much of this phase was also detailed in an interview I did with Daron Ray D'lima from Mastering Your Art over 2 years ago!

If you’re interested, please check out the interview. Daron also interviewed other students in my cohort.

Thank you again Daron for the lovely experience!

EP03 of Blue Dust is out! In this episode, Max is confined to Vertov's compound and slowly learns the mysteries of the past and his new home. He also makes a shocking revelation about himself that throws his life into chaos.

Compared to the first two episodes, this episode is full of simmering dread and anxiety. Max continues to lie to those around him, even those he cares about, while his life continues to crumble. By the end of the episode, Max meets another character, Vertov's sister Trigs, and together they hatch a plan for Max to regain some control of his life. Whereas others episodes have Max reacting to events, Max now takes an active role in "fixing" his broken situation, with mixed results.

Although anything but calm, this episode is slower and more introspective than the storm coming in EP04, the last of the series. EP03 was a great opportunity to mix music, atmos and the performances to create a subtle sense of impending doom. It's also the most outright emotional episode of the series, which highlights the wonderful performances of all the actors, but especially Sam Edwards, who played Max.

This episode has definitely grown on me over time. For the attentive listener, it's filled with tantalising clues about the mysterious world of Blue Dust. I hope you enjoy it!

Hello! It's been a week since I released EP02 of Blue Dust and I'm happy to report that I've had 80 listens to the series so far! I think that's pretty good for three weeks!

I've also had some positive comments about the production and feel of the show! Thank you for listening!

If you know anyone, especially a kid/young adult between 12-16, please consider sharing it with them. Blue Dust was made with that age group in mind and I think they would enjoy it, especially during long drives over the holidays!

As usual, you can listen to it on all podcast platforms, as well its hosting website.

Episode 2 of Blue Dust is out! In this episode, Max is rudely awakened to the reality of his old home. The city is gripped by factional warfare, with frequent blackouts and an imposed curfew over the lower parts of the city.

We're also introduced to "V," one of the major players in the resistance effort in the city and an important character in Max's past and future, as well as Thragh, a powerful alien, played by the magisterial Danny Hesz.

After the hardships involved in writing and editing the first episode, this episode was comparatively simple and joyful. The episode was made with very few actors in the room at the same time. Instead, each actor was recorded separately and the performances were stitched together later.

Although the first episode was written over months, the three remaining episodes (including this one) were written over a whirlwind 5-6 weeks of writing and brainstorming every day for many hours. Being so immersed in the story and each character, I feel as though these episodes have a lovely sense of emotional and thematic continuity that I'm proud of.

Furthermore, from this episode onwards I had a growing confidence in the story I was trying to tell, the kind of person I wanted Max to be, and in my ability to tell a story through sound only. I hope that this growing confidence as a creator comes through in the episode.

You can listen on any major podcast app.
