I hope you are all as okay as can be and your ready to practice some self care and self compassion this year 💓Personally I’ve had a difficult few months hence the absence with a relapse in my illnesses and I know I’m not the only one with the current pandemic and the state of the world. I think we need to be kind to ourselves now more then ever it’s a process but one that can save our life 🙏🏽 A New episode of kushty will be coming soon to bring you some encouragement and honest recovery advice! It’s now October and Halloween is approaching. Every year since I was young I would see at least one Halloween costume or horror film demonising mental illness! One year I remember Asda stocking fake straitjackets 🙄 I would be experiencing voices myself minding my own business only to turn on the tv to watch the murderer with psychosis kill others in the “spooky asylum”the only representation I had seen all year!According to “Over a third of the public think people with a mental health problem are likely to be violent “ when this is not the case in fact people with mental illness are more likely to be victims of crime and are more likely to hurt themselves then others. We are not just “crazy” or “psycho” we are ill and deserve care, respect and dignity 📢

I just wanted to say kushty is fully behind the movement and I will be discussing my experiences of racism within mental health services and more in tonight’s episode 3! Excited to talk more about journaling in episode two of ☁️. Journaling is a great tool for dealing with mental illness. Not only is it therapeutic to write and express your emotions and get your thoughts out of your head but the more we journal the more we can learn about ourselves for example our triggers/patterns in moods etc If you are new to journaling I would highly recommend these digital journals (full of prompts) by their resilience and gratitude digital journals are both free atm due to covid -19 ☕️📝 .

Practicing yoga this week has done wonders for my mental health ☺️ every time I have a break from yoga and return to my mat I ask myself why did I ever stop! I first tried yoga 7 years ago in a psychiatric inpatient unit and I’ll never forget my first Savasana it brought me the first bit of peace I’d had in weeks in a very dark time in my life and I have loved it ever since. I’ll also never forget my therapist taking me to my first real yoga class when I was in the community again 😅 atm I would highly recommend ‘s videos I am re doing her home-30 day which I will definitely be talking about in episode two🧘🏽‍♀️ if you would like to see more fitness/yoga related content you can follow me 💪🏽
