Amber is a young journalist who's trying to find her big break. When she's sent to go cover the press conference of the Prince of Aldovia. Only Prince Richard never shows up and Amber doesn't get her big break.

So, to get the story, she breaks into the palace and fakes being the young princess's tutor.

Emotions compound as Princess Emily and Prince Richard start to really enjoy Amber's company.

📖 Book Review 📖

I'm late posting this review, but I read Hoarded by the Dragon by Lillian Lark.

Lillian Lark did it again with her latest installment of her Monstrous Matches series.

Katarina is a witch and a thief that does one last job... Only she's breaking into a dragon's hoard. Kalos, our dragon shifter, finds Katarina trying to take an idol from him. In a moment of self-preservation, Katarina bargains her help with his heat for her life and the idol. Kalos accepts, and we end up with a surprise pregnancy.

I don't normally like surprise pregnancies, but this book does it right. It's a wonderful time exploring the relationship between our MCs as they manage their separate pasts.

In this book, Abby gets dumped by her terrible boyfriend, Richard. So, what do you do? Dye your hair, get drunk with your friends, and plan revenge!

The revenge?

Abby matches on a dating app with Richard's boss, Damien. After all, the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else. 😉

So, Abby starts dating Damien with the goal to show up to the company's Christmas party on his arm, shocking the crap out of Richard.

Well, as they often do, emotions get involved and the plan goes south when Abby really starts to care for Damien.

This movie is a staple in Midwest households of the '90s and early 2000s. I watched it every year at least once if not a couple times. And it's still one of my favorite movies to this day.

We love this movie. It might be be nostalgia, but I'm firmly in the camp that this cult classic is amazing.

If you want the perfect movie to get your magic, witchy sisterhood fix, you found it. 😉

Here is our second to last in the countdown to Halloween - Satan's Affair by H.D. Carlton.

This novella is a prequel to the Cat and Mouse Duet. Sybil secretly travels with a Halloween carnival, stalking her victims in the haunted house. She brutally unalives anyone she sees as a "demon".

All of the TWs for this novella. It is gruesome and graphic.

We're nearing the end of our countdown to Halloween. And I have to mention my newest read, Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver. I'm currently listening to this on audiobook and it's amazing. The performance and directing is absolutely worth the audible credit 😉.

This novel is a dark romcom about two serial killers who decide to do a little competition between them. As you can imagine, this book needs all of the TWs.

This is gruesome and dark and funny. Also, the spice is oh so nice.

There is a very hot kiss and some light spice. It's very sweet, and the ghost element is unique.

This romance is sooo sweet. It's not always the main goal of the plot or what's on the page.

This book is a bit slow once Florence goes home, but it gets there! If you want a book that discusses death, going home and addressing your past, and love after death, then this book is the one!

Sometimes the most terrifying stories are a gruesome look at what our future could be. In Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, we are exposed to a dystopian future ruled by social alienation.

Kathy grew up at an English boarding school where they were completely alienated from the rest of the world. When she and her friends finally grow up and leave, they're exposed to the atrocities of the world around them.

This novel is full of mystery, love, and holds a mirror up to human arrogance.

We're taking a bit of a turn with today's Halloween countdown. Today we explored a sci-fi alien romance with Ensnared by Tiffany Roberts.

Ketahn is a spider-like alien on an unknown planet when he finds Ivy in her crashed spaceship.

Ketahn and Ivy learn each other's languages, customs, and bodies (😉) as they hide away in Ketahn's nest in the forest

I posted about this one on our Halloween countdown from yesterday and in our IG story. I just finished the audiobook for A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson. I am absolutely in love with this book. Also the audiobook is amazing!

This story is a retelling of Dracula and his wives from the perspective of Constana, one of his wives. Throughout their and immortal life together she gets betrayed by him over and over, and eventually learns that his love comes with far too many caveats.

This is such an homage to the gothic romance style of storytelling. The prose is absolutely poetic and just gorgeous!

If you're looking for something to give you that romantic Halloween feel, you should check out this book!

Halloween is just around the corner. And it's on a Tuesday! So we had to do a classic for our next episode. Next week we are discussing the amazing Practical Magic.

Witch sisters Sally and Gillian have been cursed like everyone else in their family to fail in love. When Sally's husband dies from the curse, Sally's left with her two young daughters. They move in with their aunts, who are the most witchy of all witches.

Gillian escapes a terrible relationship, but along the way the sisters end up murdering her boyfriend. To try to protect themselves, they perform a spell to bring him back to life. It doesn't go well!

Enter officer Gary who is looking into the mysterious disappearance of Gillian's boyfriend.

Next up on our countdown to Halloween is one of my favorite books I've read this year. A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson.

This story follows Constana, one of Dracula's wives, and her undead life. It's told as if she is writing a letter to Dracula. The prose is so pretty and so poetic. And the audiobook is amazing.

If you want that classic Dracula Gothic romantic feel, you need to pick up this book. I absolutely also recommend the audiobook.

Today we celebrate The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna. This book is a wonderful cozy fantasy fully of magic.

Mika is a witch living in England, hired to teach a trio of girls how to control their magic. She moves to a mansion in the country side and finds the family and acceptance she's been missing.

We dive further into monster romance with today's book in our countdown to Halloween - Deceived by the Gargoyle's by Lillian Lark.

Grace is a modern day witch from a powerful family, but all she wants is to be loved and accepted by a family of her own. So, she seeks out the help of a magical matchmaker. Paired with Elliot, a gargoyle, they fall quick for each other. Only Elliot hasn't yet told her he already has mates, two of them. And he wants Grace to join their clan.

This book was one of our first for the podcast and a fantastic jump into monster romance. Check out our episode wherever you find your podcasts.
