The Flexible Working Bill has officially received Royal Assent, marking a significant milestone in employment rights. Starting in 2024, flexible working requests will become a day-one employment right, as outlined in the Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Act 2023. 🌐

The upcoming legislation, expected to take effect in spring 2024, introduces noteworthy changes. 👇

Employees will now have the liberty to submit two flexible working requests within any 12 months, up from the current allowance of one. Additionally, employers must respond within two months, down from the existing three-month timeframe. Notably, employees will no longer need to provide detailed explanations regarding the business impact of their request. 🔄

While the government hints at establishing a day-one right to request flexible working, legal experts caution that explicit clarification may require separate legislation. Currently, the standard prerequisite is 26 weeks of employment.

Considering that 44% of flexible working arrangements are informally managed, emphasising a supportive culture and providing relevant training is crucial. 🤝

Interest in the is rising post-trial, emphasising better work-life balance and reduced stress. Many mistakenly connect these benefits with reduced pay and increased overtime despite evidence of increased productivity and job satisfaction in trials.

Over 400 UK workers shared feedback after the world's largest four-day work week trial (June-Dec 2022). Surprisingly, 56 out of 61 companies extending the trial reported increased productivity and job satisfaction, with 18 making it a permanent practice. 📊✨
