Blog Entry #1️: The bittersweet life of a princess
Name: Juliana Carmela S. Manalo

Have you ever been wondering what it is like to be a princess? Like how did they become a princess?
As we all know, princesses are meant to have a happy life. Wherein they can do what princesses should do, but there is a dark side of being a princes. In a culture in Philippines wherein people made to call a princess “binukot”, a typical princess would have praised by people because of her exposed beauty but “binukot” is different. They tend to hide her beauty and preserve it. She is also living like a princess because she is also being served by people yet the princess must not have a normal life like a normal kid have. She can’t go to school and she can’t have the chance to play with the other kids. This Binukot was a part of our past culture but with Kara David’s courage and knowledge, she bravely found the last “binukot” in the Philippines. It is located at Tapaz Capiz. Surprisingly the forgotten culture was depicted after a long year it was buried. In relation to culture “binukot” was being passed by generation to a new generation. Nevertheless in 21st century people are not likely to preserve the culture. It was fun being a princess but having a life like a prisoner is hard. The Binukots tend to dance their traditional dance and sing the epic stories. She had no choice but to do what is meant for her to do. On the other hand, Fredrico Caballero and the other people in their barangay wanted to show their purity in heart to preserve the culture by creating a “balay turua nan” at this time they don’t have to force women to become a binukot they tend to look for someone who’s willing to become one and by that they can preserve their culture. In relation to people as media, they relay the message to everyone as messenger just like how they pass the tradition long time ago. A culture must never be forgotten by us since our culture has been taken carefully by our ancestors. It was indeed painful for Lola isiang for not having the chance to experience the life of a normal person but at some point, I was amazed by her capacity to do the tradition with sincerity in her heart.
