In memory of  པད་མ་ཚེ་བརྟན། -Pema Tseden - 万玛才旦 (December 1969 – 8 May 2023)

Pema Tseden, the pioneering Tibetan filmmaker, passed away at the age of 53 on May 8th, 2023. He graduated from Northwest University for Nationalities, where he majored in Tibetan Language and Literature. After graduation, he worked as a primary school teacher and a civil servant. Then he pursued advanced studies at China's most prestigious film school, Beijing Film Academy, where he became the Academy's first-ever Tibetan student.He is widely recognized as the leading filmmaker of a newly emerging Tibetan cinema and the first director in China to film his movies entirely in the Tibetan language. Tseden has published more than 50 short stories and novels both in Tibetan and Chinese. His work has won numerous awards including the Drang-char (sbrang-char) Tibetan Literature Prize and has been translated into English, French, and German. Since beginning his film career in 2002, Tseden has created a highly acclaimed body of work. RIP

Purev New is an illustrator and designer born in 1995 in Milin County, Linzhi City, Tibet. He started learning painting and photography since high school. During his university years, he began to create a series of works and started learning visual design. He has created many types of illustrations and designs. In August 2020, he participated in the Toronto Tibetan Cultural Design and Illustration Online Exhibition, and his works were selected for the online exhibition poster¹. In April 2021, he participated in the Shanghai "3650M" Tibetan Culture and Art Group Exhibition¹. In 2021, he established his personal studio "Endless Art Design Studio" ¹. He has designed products and packaging for several clothing companies, cafes, cultural and creative companies, and completed brand planning and brand design work for several entrepreneurial small and micro enterprises¹. He plans to publish a complete collection of personal illustrations "Endless" in 2024¹.
