Does it get much better? Well this is our fave beach camp so far. It's about 2km down the beach from the access point and required some precision full throttle reversing to get the van that far back up the beach. Still, we only broke the mud flaps off (again). What a super spot that we recommend highly for a visit. Sharks here? Let's wait and see....

Beach life🏄‍♀️🌞. It rarely happens that we just spend the day doing nothing but sitting at the beach. Why not when you have everything you need right there in the car with you?

Granite Island is a short walk over the bridge from Victor Harbour, a lovely sea side town in South Australia. Watch out for the horse drawn tram that takes weary travellers who don't want to make the walk over. Apparently there might be camels too, but we didn't see any.

The Mighty Murray River and it's tributaries are the longest in Australia. It runs 2500km through some stunning scenery all the way to the ocean here at Coorong National Park in South Australia. What a privilege to follow it's journey and make some great friends along the way.

✅Most easterly point of Australian mainland completed. Cape Byron is the second of our four points to check off, we've already done the most northerly at Cape York. Moody skies that day over the bay and the first trip out for the complete new rig!

As we continue to catch up to present day, you'll see our trusty Amarok XL in pictures from now on. We brought this with us from the UK, which took longer to ship than we had hoped. This car has an extended wheelbase and so is very stable at towing and its one thing we've definitely been looking forward to compared to the very short wheelbase of the Jeep GC. Before you ask, no, there's no winch, front bar or stuff like that because it would put the front axle overweight. So we use our eyes and try not to get stuck or drive at night 😂

🎄The council in Hervey Bay have a map to show where all the best Christmas light displays are around the town, so we went for a drive... after an evening walk along the jetty. Then on to Maryborough where Mary Poppins replaces the normal stop/go pedestrian lights with her helpful brolly down for stop and brolly forward and up for GO! The author of the Mary Poppins, Pamela Lyndon Travers was born here. What a fitting tribute from this lovely town.

Mass catchup time! We are still so far behind with our posts so Here's a hi-light of November 2022. We have seen so many beautiful places along the coast of Queensland from Bowen to Bundaberg. Tomorrow it will be Christmas in instagram world!

It's not all about staying in glamorous locations. This is us sleeping at the side of the Bruce Highway which runs from Brisbane to Cairns. But no matter where you are, if you look up on a clear evening you're pretty much guaranteed a fantastic sunset. Here's a few shots all from the same evening.

☀️☀️☀️When you get a sunny day and you’re full time travelling: the joy and excitement of having clean clothes and bedding far outweighs the pull of going to the beach.

Paronella Park, what a fascinating place. We got to do something I (Dave) have been missing for a while - playing the piano. The place transforms at night when the lights come alive. Built by José Paronella in the 1930's you can learn more about it on their website. The new campground they have built is first class and is included in your ticket.

Built in 1958, Tinaroo Falls Dam was designed to supply continuous water to the to***co growing industry. It sits on the Barron River about 100km from Cairns. It's impressive to stand at the side and watch the water coming from the pipes with quite a force. And it makes a pretty backdrop for our little faces!

Buying fruit directly from the farm that grows it is one of our favourite things.

It all depends where you are as to what’s grown locally. This is melon country so a honeydew and a watermelon are on the menu for the next few days.

Its even better when you can see the produce growing from the roadside.

If you do manage to get into the water without being eaten by a crocodile then the killer jellyfish (stingers) will surely have a good go at you. The beaches of Cape Tribulation, where the Daintree rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef are appealing to swim at. Except here you just have to make do with beach races.

“That’s it our trip is over” we thought as we sat at the side of the road with a low oil pressure warning and an engine that sounded like its was falling out of the car when cranking but wouldn’t run.

Who would have thought that Andrew would spot the squealing tank pump. 10 litres of fuel from our jerry later and its running like a dream. This story will continue on in a few says when we realise what the problem actually is.

🎉(Life moment)🎉 Here's a shot of The Tip sign in the distance and up close. There's also a distance marker which shows London 14300km away. When this picture was taken we were very far from our home of the UK. From now, Australia is officially our home and this is the top of our continent. How things change in such a short time, and with only one letter from the government.

Just to say this isn’t all swim - travel - swim - relax.

We also do learn things. At the moment algebra with its incessant ever confusing “what does x equal” questions is our hot topic.

Dave is the maths teacher. This is not due to higher skill or ability, but the amount of patience available 🤣.

Another freecamp at the side of the river a few km north of Coen. And of course another orange sunset.

Coen is a small settlement along the Peninsula Development Road and has a good number of facilities: Medical centre, Police station, fuel, play park, general store etc. After this we are on our own all the way to Weipa, apart from the occasional roadhouse with fuel and camping.

This is where the fun begins. There are more gravel or dirt roads in Australia than there are sealed roads. This made us laugh because even out here on the Cape York peninsula where we were looking forward to traffic, roundabout and traffic light free roads we managed to find some fairly serious engineering work going on building a new bridge at Archer River and to our amazement a set of temporary traffic lights!

That dirt is so red and it gets everywhere and on everything.

Finding secluded places like this to camp overnight was one of the things that attracted us to visit Cape York. With a clear sky, the sunset produced a vivid purple and orange sky to see out the day.

And there was a Wallaby passing by!

The gateway to the Cape York peninsula: The Peninsula Development Road that runs from Lakeland has a new information point right at the start which tells you all about the area and gives an overview of the destinations you can reach from here. Information about traditional owners of the land, history and culture is all there to learn about. Definitely worth a stop here.

There's only one way in and one way out. 2000kms of dirt roads ahead.

The sign doesn't tell you just how poor the conditions are going to be though. This season we know they are particularly bad.

One thing we’ve noticed is that Australians do not compromise on their creativity in the mail box department. For our UK audience, it is pretty much mandatory to have a mail box outside your property and this one from the rural Bundaberg region really caught our eye.

Maybe it will become a weekly feature.

What a great idea. The roads are long and winding in Australia but these signs seem like a good idea. They are periodically placed to keep you alert.

This also contributes to our home education strategy 🤣

Woorim Beach on the east side of Bribie Island. 🏝 A little paradise with hardly any people, some small waves to play in and lovely sand.

There’s plenty of space for larger vehicles to park (no camping) and we made use of our outside shower for getting rid of sand.
