We've just released episode #3 of the Disinfect podcast, & it is a doozy. Instead of co-hosts Matt Diehl & Maurice Bernstein blathering on ourselves as usual, we've assembled a gallery of notable experts to return to the scene of the crime – Paul Young's atrocious '80s-cliche cover of Joy Division's eternal classic, "Love Will Tear Us Apart."

To that end, we've got none other than Moby, Steve Albini, & landmark electronic-music producer/electro pioneer Arthur Baker in conversation to break down potentially the worst Joy Division cover version ever from their POV.

Moby of course is a Joy Division superfan, has covered Joy Division himself ("New Dawn Fades"), & has toured with New Order extensively. "Is this the worst Bob Marley cover of all time?"

This is the important question that co-hosts Maurice Bernstein & Matt Diehl investigate on the second episode of our new podcast Disinfect – where we definitively air out the worst songs in popular music history. And this is a really funny episode. Funny & informative, of course.

As such, in addition to defending the legacy of reggae music's greatest icon, somehow, Whitesnake (again) & Naomi Campbell also come up – in addition to the expected The Clash & Lee "Scratch" Perry name drops, et al... Somehow a comparison between the band Journey & the film "Chinatown" happens, too; fans of the Pat Travers Band will probably not be happy, either...

Yes, no stone goes unturned – although Maurice actually manages to not mention Manchester United (for once)... Full disclosure: you can't unhear this one. It is bad. Today marks the fortieth anniversary of Joy Division icon Ian Curtis’ passing; 2020 also celebrates the 40th birthday of his timeless swan song, “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” Therefore, we’ve chosen today to officially launch our new podcast, Disinfect.

The show’s irreverent concept came from co-host/crate-digging Giant Step honcho Maurice Bernstein. He approached his friend, acclaimed author/music journalist Matt Diehl, with a simple concept: create a podcast airing out music’s worst songs. For "Disinfect"'s first season, Bernstein & Diehl tackle the worst cover songs of all time – launching with ‘80s pop-soul singer Paul Young’s take on “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”
