The complainant received a call from unknown person for SIM upgradation and on his instructions, the complainant clicked on one app and lost his money.
During the investigation, the Cyber Cell DPO Jammu, acted swiftly and exhibited the ultimate professional excellence which resulted in recovery of Rs 300000.
Further investigation is underway.

KATHUA, JULY 11: To bolster the security apparatus, and to focus on enhancing coordination & synergy among the Border Security Force (BSF), Punjab Police, and Jammu and Kashmir Police a high-level coordination conference was held at the Conference Hall of DPL Kathua today.
The primary agenda of the meeting was to conduct a comprehensive review of the current security situation and to devise robust strategies to counter the challenges.

The menace of border smuggling, narcotics, arms, and contraband was deliberated upon.The officials reviewed recent seizures and intelligence inputs, identifying key smuggling routes and methods.
The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening checkpoints, increasing frisking operations, and enhancing the capabilities of canine units.
The officers emphasized the importance of coordinated patrolling and the deployment of advanced technology, including drones and night-vision devices to monitor and secure the border effectively.
The officers also stressed the need for inter-agency cooperation and real-time information sharing to dismantle the narcotics networks.
Following the presentation by DIG JSK Range, IG BSF Jammu, DIG BSF Gurdaspur, and SSP Pathankot, in-depth discussions were conducted addressing key security concerns. In light of the discussions, several strategic initiatives were proposed to augment the security framework along the border.

Encounter in Doda, search operation after Kathua terror attack widened, NIA to assist J&K police
JAMMU, JULY 9: A fresh encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the higher reaches of Doda district on Tuesday, as authorities roped in the NIA, deployed special forces and widened their search for the perpetrators of the deadly attack on an army patrol in Kathua district of Jammu region in which five soldiers were killed.
Director General of Police R R Swain rushed to Kathua to oversee the operation in the remote Machedi region.
The search for terrorists has been expanded to cover vast areas in Udhampur and Kathua districts, with Special Forces deployed to conduct surgical operations against the ultras, officials said.
As the operations were continuing in Kathua, a fresh gunfight erupted at Ghadi Bhagwah forest, located 35 km east of Doda town, following a search and cordon operation based on specific intelligence about the presence of at least three foreign terrorists.
The clash in Doda came on the heels of the ambush of an army patrolling party on the rugged Machedi-Kindli-Malhar mountainous road near Badnota village in Lohai Malhar, approximately 150 km from Kathua district headquarters. The terror attack, which was the fifth in Jammu in one month, resulted in the death of five soldiers and injuries to as many personnel.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi paid tribute to the fallen soldiers from Uttarakhand – Naib Subedar Anand Singh, Havaldar Kamal Singh, Rifleman Anuj Negi, Naik Vinod Singh and Rifleman Adarsh Negi.
A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at the Pathankot army base in Punjab before their mortal remains were flown to their home state for final rites.

JAMMU, JULY 9: Cyber Cell DPO Jammu, a dedicated unit to deal with cases of online frauds and cyber crime, has successfully recovered hard earned money of the complainant which she had invested in committee.
The committee was managed and owned by a group of people for which a mutual concensus and pre conditions of investment had been agreed upon to return the invested amount of each group member after a fixed time period. But the complainant was denied her amount to be paid back as a single installment for no obivious reasons.
The complainant tried every bit of efforts to persuade the defaulter for returning the amount but all in vain and finally approached the office of Cyber Cell Jammu for lodging a formal complaint against the defaulter.
Taking cognizance of the matter, Cyber Cell DPO Jammu swung into action.
During the investigation, the Cyber Cell DPO Jammu, acted swiftly and exhibited the ultimate professional excellence which resulted in recovery of Rs 6 lakhs from the defaulter.
Further investigation is underway.

Four terrorists eliminated in J&K’s Kulgam; soldier makes supreme sacrifice in encounter
SRINAGAR, JULY 6: At least four terrorists were killed and a soldier laid down his life in twin encounters in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, officials said.
They said contact with terrorists was established during a cordon and search operation in the Frisal Chinnigam area of Kulgam. In the exchange of fire there so far, four terrorists have been killed, the officials said, adding their bodies have been sighted.
Drone footage of the encounter site has shown four bodies lying there, but they could not be retrieved yet as firing was still going on, the officials said.
The operation is on, the officials added.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, V K Birdhi, who visited the encounter site, said the operation will continue.
“Some bodies (of terrorists) have been sighted, but the encounter has not concluded yet,” he told reporters.
The site of the encounter is not near the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway but in the interior areas of the district, the IGP said.
He said the JK Police and security forces continue to keep track of the movement of terrorists and the killing of these terrorists is a significant achievement for the security forces.
Earlier, a gunfight broke out in Modergam village of the south Kashmir district after security forces launched a cordon and search operation there following specific inputs about the presence of terrorists, the officials said.

New laws will free criminal justice system from colonial-era mindset: J&K LG Manoj Sinha
JAMMU, JULY 1: On Monday, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced that three new criminal laws would liberate the country's criminal justice system from the colonial-era mindset.
These new laws, which come into effect nationwide today, will bring widespread changes to India's criminal justice system by ending colonial-era statutes.
The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam will replace the British-era Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively.
LG Manoj Sinha said, "These three criminal laws will free the country's criminal justice system from the colonial-era mindset. I wish to congratulate the J&K police who have filed the first FIR under this new law. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) have been implemented following consultations with stakeholders over the past four years."
He mentioned that in 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed a review of the criminal laws.
"In August 2019, states, High Courts, the Supreme Court, and MPs were asked for suggestions. Between 2020 and 2021, consultations were held, and the government received 3,200 suggestions. Home Minister Amit Shah participated in 58 meetings. These laws are based on justice, equality, and neutrality, as agreed upon by all stakeholders," he added.
The implementation ceremony for the new criminal laws in J&K was held at the Police Headquarters in Srinagar. It was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh High Court, RR Bhatnagar, Advisor to the LG, Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary of J&K, RR Swain, DGP of J&K, and other officers of J&K Police.

Railways conduct trial run on world's highest Chenab rail bridge in JK
REASI, JUNE 20: Indian Railways on Thursday conducted a successful trial run on the newly constructed Chenab Rail Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge.
The bridge is built between Sangaldan in Ramban district and Reasi. Rail services on the line will start soon, officials said.
Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, said in a post on X , "Successful trial run of MEMU train between Sangaldan-Reasi section of USBRL project Jammu & Kashmir".
At present, the trains operate along the railway line from Kanyakumari to Katra, while services run from Baramulla to Sangaldan in the Kashmir Valley.
The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project will be completed by year-end.
The USBRL project, including the 48.1 km long Banihal-Sangaldan section, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 20, 2024.
Phase I of the project, covering the 118 km long Qazigund-Baramulla section, was inaugurated in October 2009. Subsequent phases saw the inauguration of the 18 km long Banihal-Qazigund section in June 2013 and the 25 km long Udhampur-Katra section in July 2014.
The Chenab Rail Bridge, constructed 359 metres (around 109 feet) above the Chenab River in the Jammu and Kashmir region, is some 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower.
The 1,315 metre-long bridge is part of a broader project which aims to make the Kashmir valley accessible by the Indian Railway network. (Agencies)

JAMMU, APR 11: Continuing its drive under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ against the drug menace afflicting society in the UT, Jammu Police of South Zone conducted a comprehensive combing and confidence building drive in Valmiki Colony area of Gandhi Nagar.
The drive was conducted under the guidance of Ajay Sharma SP South, Kartik Shrotriya SDPO Gandhi Nagar, and Sudhir Sadhotra SHO Police Station Gandhi Nagar under the overall supervision of Dr Vinod Kumar, SSP Jammu.
During the drive to check the movement of suspected drug peddlers and consumers in the area, all entry exit points of the colony were plugged and strict checking vis frisking of all the commuters were done.
Houses of culprits booked previously under PIT-NDPS Act and PSA were thoroughly searched and random frisking of all sections of population in deep lanes was also undertaken.
Nearby medical stores were checked for register maintenance, working of installed CCTV setups etc.
One suspect person was also taken under preventive custody.
Jammu Police in South Zone also seized this opportunity to interact with citizen of Valmiki Colony and highlighted the ills of substance abuse (street awareness), especially among the youth and children of the area.
It was emphasised that any information regarding drug abuse and trade is to be given on police number 9086100100. The identity of the informer will be kept absolutely secret and confidential.
Further to instill sense of confidence and security among the local inhabitants, random route march was undertaken from Valmiki Colony to Gole Market via Auqaf Market.

SRINAGAR, MAR 1: Traffic Police Department here on Friday ordered a departmental enquiry after a civilian and cops engaged in an altercation.
A video of the incident which went viral on social media platforms shows a civilian and a traffic cop punching each other.
According to Traffic Police Department officials, the incident happened after a driver was asked to remove his vehicle from main road in order to avoid congestion.

SRINAGAR, FEB 21: Cricket superstar Sachin Tendulkar has spent three days in the Gulmarg ski resort where nature welcomed him and his family with fresh snow for which Kashmir had been craving for over three months
“Sachin Tendulkar must be one of the most blessed human beings. His arrival in Gulmarg ushered in a bountiful snowfall for which skiers at the resort and thousands of common Kashmiris waited with bated breath for over three months”, said Altaf Ahmad, 45, an ardent Sachin fan who went to Gulmarg to have a glimpse of his hero.
During his stay at a resort, Sachin, his wife Anjali and daughter Sara came out to enjoy the snowfall. Sachin also drove a snow bike for sometime at Gulmarg.
He will be visiting an art & craft centre in the Kunzer area on the Gulmarg-Srinagar road on Wednesday. At the centre, shawl and carpet weavers will display their weaving craft to Sachin and family. He has been a keen admirer of arts and crafts.
Waiting eagerly for his arrival at the art & craft centre, one shawl weaver said, “His love for art and craft is natural. After all, he has been one of the greatest artists and craftsmen with the bat & ball.”
From Kunzer, Sachin is scheduled to visit the Aman Setu Bridge at the Kaman Post on the Line of Control in the Uri area of Baramulla district.

Residential quarters building damaged in fire incident at MLA Hostel in Srinagar
SRINAGAR, FEB 16: A fire incident damaged the residential quarter building at the Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) hostel in Srinagar on Friday, officials said.
The fire broke out at around 9 a.m. in the upper story of the double-story residential quarters at MLA Hostel on Moulana Azad Road, causing extensive damage to the property, Fire and Emergency Service officials said.
A chinar tree and a wooden structure were also damaged in the fire incident.
The fire tenders were rushed to the spot from the nearby fire stations to bring the fire under control.
There was no report of any loss of life or injury in the incident.
The cause of the fire is being ascertained, they said. (Agencies)
TRF terrorist neutralized in Shopian encounter

SHOPIAN, NOV 9: Security forces have neutralized a terrorist linked with proscribed outfit of TRF in village Kathohalan of District Shopian.
As per official sources, acting on specific information regarding presence of terrorist in village Kathohalan of district Shopian, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Shopian Police and Army (02 Rajput) in the said area.
During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon them, which was retaliated effectively, leading to an encounter.
In the ensuing encounter, 1 local terrorist identified as Maiser Ahamd Dar alias Adil, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar, a resident of Vishroo Payeen, linked with proscribed terror outfit TRF was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter.
Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.
In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress.
2 infiltrators gunned down along LoC in Uri; arms, ammunition recovered

SRINAGAR, OCT 22: Two infiltrators were gunned down along Line of Control (LoC) as Army along with police have foiled an infiltration bid by heavy-armed terrorists in Uri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
“An infiltration bid has been foiled by security forces in Uri Sector, Baramulla. Based on specific inputs from Intelligence agencies and JK Police of likely infiltration in Uri Sector by heavily armed terrorists from across the LoC, troops were put on a high alert and counter infiltration grid was strengthened,” a Defence Ministry Spokesperson said in a statement.
“Taking advantage of bad weather marked by incessant rainfall and poor visibility, a group of armed terrorists attempted to infiltrate across the LoC. At around 3 pm, the group was intercepted by alert troops resulting in heavy exchange of fire,” it said, adding, “Intense fire-fight continued till last light resulting in elimination of two terrorists; the balance terrorists withdrew to enemy side of LoC along with the bodies of dead terrorists.”
The area was kept under surveillance throughout the night, it said. “On 22 October 2023, a thorough search of the incident site was conducted leading to the identification of tell-tale signs and recovery of heavy war like stores including two AK series rifles, six pistols, four Chinese grenades, blankets and two blood stained bags containing Pakistani and Indian currency notes, Pakistani medicines and eatables.”
The recovery of two blood stained bags confirms that at least two terrorists were grievously injured, forcing them to shed their load and flee across LoC.
“Due to inclement weather conditions, search operation is suspended, which will resume on opening up of weather. Operation under progress,” it added.
Jammu-Srinagar Highway blocked due to landslide in Ramban, Amarnath Yatra halted
JAMMU, AUG 9: The annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath from Jammu to Srinagar was suspended on Wednesday due to a landslide on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district, officials said.
Meanwhile, the Yatra will also be suspended from Pantha Chowk yatra base camp to Jammu and it will be resumed after road national highway clear for traffic movement.
Jammu and Kashmir traffic police said that Jammu-Srinagar NHW is blocked due landslide at T2 Marog Ramban.
“Jammu-Srinagar NHW is blocked due landslide at T2 Marog Ramban. People are advised not to travel on NH-44 without confirmation from TCUs (Traffic Control Unit),” JK Traffic Police said.

Two dead as passenger bus comes under landslide in Doda
DODA, JULY 9: Two persons died after a bus came under a landslide in Doda on Sunday, officials said.
They said that two person were killed and one injured after a passenger bus came under a rolling landslide on Gondoh Gawadi road in sub division Gandoh of Doda district.
The two persons have been identified as Mudaser Hussain, a resident of Neeli Bhalessa and Amir Suhail, a resident of Dharoot Khara.
Rains and flood like situation has affected life in the district closing connecting roads including in Bhaderwah, Thathri and Gandoh.
2 Ganderbal residents die as truck skids off road in Ladakh

GANDERBAL, JULY 7: Two persons died after a truck skidded off the road near Nemo are of Ladakh in the wee hours of Friday, officials said here.
An official told that the truck skidded off the road near Nemo at around 4:00 am today.
He said that in the incident owner of the truck Zahoor Ahmad Wani (50) of Ganderbal died on the spot, while its driver got critically injured.
He said that the injured was taken to a hospital, however, he also succumbed during treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Shahnawaz Ahmad Sofi of Ganderbal.
Police have taken cognizance in this regard.
Batamaloo firefighting operation ends after six long hours
SRINAGAR, JULY 2: Massive fire broke out in a three-storey hardware store building on Sunday afternoon in the Batamaloo area here and was controlled after hectic efforts of firefighters for six long hours, even as one vehicle has been put on standby at the spot as a precautionary measure.
An official from the Fire & Emergency Department told that the fire broke out in a three-storey hardware store building.
“The news about the fire at Batamaloo was received at approximately 2 pm, following which Fire & Emergency services personnel along with the machinery rushed to the spot and started dousing the flames,” the Division Fire Officer (DFO) Tasaduk Ahamd said.
He said the fire broke out from the top storey and later engulfed the entire building.
"It took us six long hours for dousing operation, and since the building contains paint, tarpin, and petroleum products, PVC pipes and other hardware items, that is why it took too much time for us to cool down the fire completely", he said.
The officer added, “We have taken complete control over the situation, and the fire won't spread anymore as firefighters from nineteen receiving stations are on the job. Additionally, more than twenty vehicles are dousing the flames.”
Tasaduk said the operation lasted for six long hours and one vehicle has been put on standby at the spot to avoid any uneven incident as the building contains petroleum products.

SAMBA, MAY 7: Under the overall supervision of SSP Samba Benam Tosh, Police has arrested three accused including a Manager for breach of trust.
As per official sources, during patrolling duties, a police party of Police Station Bari Brahmana found one vehicle suspiciously transporting cement to one under construction house.
On checking and verifying in the presence of Executive Magistrate First Class, it revealed that 120 cement bags bearing mark “not for retail sale” were illegally sold/misappropriated committing breach of trust, cheating and criminal conspiracy and therefore had been seized.
The arrested accused have been identified as Bagh Hussain, son of Alam Din of Mahi Chak, District Kathua (private manager), Dwarka Nath, son of Sain Dass of Khara Tehsil Bari Brahmana District Samba and Pawan Kumar, son of Som Nath of Patli Morh Tehsil Bari Brahmana District Samba.
A case FIR Number 109/2023 under sections 409, 420 and 120-B IPC has been registered at Police Station Bari Brahmana and further investigation is going on.

Video shows school locked and children playing outside, probe ordered
RAMBAN, APR 19: The Ramban district authorities has ordered an inquiry after a video surfaced purportedly showing classrooms of a government primary school being locked and students playing outside in the absence of any teacher.
Social activist Narinder Singh reportedly shot the video at the school in Hunga on Monday.
Taking a serious note of the absence of teachers, Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mussarat Islam sought an inquiry into it and ordered that the salary of the zonal education officer of Ukhral under whose jurisdiction the school falls be withheld till further orders.
In a letter to the Chief Education Officer of the district, the Deputy Commissioner said a video has been in circulation on social media showing absence of teachers in the school and sought a report from him within seven days.
"Your probe must also focus on how an outsider was able to enter into the premises of the government school and shoot a video, which also raises concerns about the safety of schoolchildren,” Islam wrote. (Agencies)
