🎥‼️HIDDEN MEETINGS DECIDE FATES OF CITY EMPLOYEES IN LAREDO‼️🎥

Laredo, TX - The City of Laredo’s Civil Service Commission, along with the Firefighters & Police Officers Civil Service Commission, handles appeals from city employees seeking reinstatement after termination. These commissions, which review cases involving high-profile dismissals across city departments—including Firefighters & police officers who have been fired and, in some cases, reinstated—do not post their meetings for public access.

On the city’s website, the link to the Civil Service Commission meeting videos directs to a playlist on the city’s official YouTube page, but the playlist contains no videos.

While these meetings significantly impact public employees and taxpayer-funded positions, their inaccessibility has raised concerns about transparency and accountability. Citizens are left unaware of the processes and discussions behind decisions that affect the community.

The Commission, composed of members appointed by the Mayor and City Council, holds the power to reinstate or uphold the termination of city employees, including law enforcement personnel. Despite the importance of these deliberations, the city has yet to implement live streaming or other means of public access to ensure community oversight.

Transparency is essential for maintaining public trust in local governance. Advocates argue that making these meetings accessible to the public would not only improve accountability but also foster greater confidence in the fairness of the city’s employment practices.

Although streaming these meetings is not legally required, given Laredo’s current circumstances and the implementation of the agenda, I believe it’s time for a change.
This would enhance transparency and align with the “Laredo First Agenda,” which prioritizes increasing openness within the city.

‼️X-WEBB COUNTY DEPUTY INDICTED FOR ON-DUTY SEXUAL ASSAULT‼️

Webb County —— A former Webb County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been indicted on federal charges for sexually assaulting a woman while on duty, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.

Ignacio Rodriguez IV, 27, was arrested after a federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment on Jan. 7, which was unsealed following his arrest.

The indictment alleges that Rodriguez pulled over a vehicle on Sept. 1, 2024, and sexually assaulted the driver. He reportedly threatened the victim with a firearm, kidnapping, bodily injury, and aggravated sexual abuse. Authorities say Rodriguez also turned off his body-worn and dash cameras during the incident, obstructing justice.

If convicted, Rodriguez faces up to life in prison for the civil rights violation and up to 20 years for falsifying records, along with fines of up to $250,000.

The FBI and Laredo Police Department are investigating. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Leslie Ann Cortez and Brandon Scott Bowling are prosecuting the case.
