Celebrating our heritage is an everyday practice for many of us. We don’t necessarily wait until the month of acknowledgment to do so, although it is nice to see others participate in the celebration and taking of space during this time. However, I want to share a piece of my mind on this.
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ we celebrate our heritage everyday through the testimony we embody for ourselves and our roots. This means that we are a walking celebration of our individual heritage and together we represent the collective. We are all so vastly different and soo incredibly connected throughout our communities and spaces. We might hyphenate our ethnicity, put an X in our identities, speak Spanglish, speak broken Spanish or no Spanish at all. We could be 💯 undeniably Indio pipil, half salvi and half mexican, or maybe half Latino and half unknown. The point is that we are all one people regardless of the percentage of brown In your ancestor tree, the decimal of your DNA that is geographically pinned on a saliva test. So yes we are celebrating this month, no it doesn’t stop at the end of the holiday month and yes we can all celebrate!
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖This is why and myself have come together to bring you Womxn Pivot, a space where Latinx Womxn will share about their experiences as entrepreneurs, leaving a 9-5, switching fields and leaving their country to build a life. Their lessons, advice and top pieces of “hindsight” wisdom. I hope you can all join us and I look forward to connecting with you 😍
