I am loving the opportunity to interview women. There is just something about having conversations that are intentioned to unearth wisdom in the other person. It is like mining for gold. You dig up a gold nugget and it is just precious.

Looking forward to interviewing, Jodi Martin, Change Management Specialist whilst I am here in Melbourne. I know this will be a rip roaring interview - Jodi is my sister who has inspired me for decades. She rose above some pretty significant life challenges and has been working with top companies in Australia and New Zealand to help them transition through changes and challenges of all sizes. Often in life we start sentences with 'If only...' These are the kind of comments that are based in understanding and regret that we didn't have the foreknowledge required to see the consequences of our actions.

Wisdom is a difficult thing to predict...you often need to learn from your mistakes and your successes to develop wisdom. It is a rare individual who is naturally gifted with wisdom.

But we can dream, can't we? Wouldn't it be great to have foresight! And foresight is also what happens when we bag the wisdom from our past failures or successes, so that we can see the signposts ahead of time and make better choices.

Hayley Solich interviews Monique Wilson, Lead Actress, Screen Writer and Costume Designer from the recently released West Australian film, PIECES.

In this feature length film, Monique places the character, Alicia, who is an art therapist and retired dancer. She has been commissioned by a community dance company to design an inspirational artwork. The dance company have also hired a documentary crew to film the creation of the artwork, which is being created by people living with a mental health challenge.

This is a raw look at mental health challenges, presenting a realistic view of what it is like to live with these challenges and the impact that it has one the family/friends.

The film is deeply impacting and received a loud round of applause at the showing today at Lunar Theatre in Perth.

We all go through things and come out the other side of those experiences and in the process, we can harvest wisdom. If we live a reflective lifestyle where we are aware of ourselves and others, harvesting wisdom is an act of love and sharing that wisdom with others, to help them in their life journey, is love in action.

Obviously, unsolicited advice is unhelpful. But a timely word of wisdom, like, "hey, I've been through that and this helped me and might help you too..." can be the difference between the long way around a problem and a short cut through the middle. It can save someone a lot of suffering and heartache if well timed and well intentioned.

The opposite of well timed insightful wisdom is trying to impose your ideas and will on others or sharing critical feedback without understanding the context of the person you are sharing that feedback with. And sometimes, the best intentioned sharing can cause others to feel devalued.

My mission in life is to share wisdom that all may experience abundance. This is what this podcast is about and why I am investing my precious time - without payment - to gathering people's wisdom to share.

In this world where people are now free to say whatever it is they feel on spaces like social media, often without any consequences, it can be too easy to waste our words or to use them in a harmful way.

For those who are going to comment on this podcast, please ask yourself this question...is what I am going to say well intentioned, wise and kind? If you don't know or answer no to any of those three ideas, then perhaps hold off on posting a comment. Negative comments will be removed unless they are constructively stated.

Day 2 Recording the interview - Success!

Thank you Debbie Ducic for giving me your time and nuggets of wisdom. I had a blast and we now have the dirt on how Deb lived rent-and-utilities free for over a decade.

I am sure we all would like that magic to happen in our lives, but would we be willing to follow in her footsteps? You will have to listen to find out!

I now know that future guests need Chrome to use the platform…would have been good to know that earlier. 🙂

I'll just do a podcast, she said....

DAY 1: USING AN ONLINE PLATFORM TO RECORD THE INTERVIEW - FAIL!

Well, who would have thought that getting a podcast recorded would be so difficult! I have done so many audio and video recordings in my time but add a guest to the mix, who needs to click a link to join and the technology decides today is the day that nothing is going to work!!! I mean, three platforms that should work suddenly didn't want to cooperate.

I signed up for an online recording platform - all the reviews were great and it was supposed to be super simple, but I have just wasted 2 hours troubleshooting. Then skipped across to Zoom and then to Teams and now back to Zoom. (Big sigh).

All I can say is that this guest's story must be going to make a world of difference for there to be so much opposition to it being recorded. :)

Suffice to say, I am a pretty patient and determined woman. We will try again with Zoom...It might not be studio sound quality like I was going for, but at least I will have a podcast recorded.

I guess choosing to do a podcast on how people over challenges, you have to expect to come across a few of your own, hey.
