Michter’s announced it is releasing its limited edition US*1 Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Rye.

“This rye is really special.” Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Rye is a single barrel product, and the average proof of the barrels in this 2024 release is 110.2 proof (55.1% ABV). “It’s enormously expensive for us to barrel our distillate at the lower entry proof of 103 vs the permissible 125 entry proof, but the result, as this product shows, is a richer and more complex whiskey,” observed Master Distiller Dan McKee.

The suggested retail price in the United States is $110 for a 750ml bottle of Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Rye.

I am a huge fan of the barrel strength releases and can’t wait to see where this one stacks up against some of the previous years Barrel Strength Ryes.

Sunday Funday ~ What is your favorite game for rainy Sundays?

I was hoping to get some extra luck by pairing the game with some new Lucky Seven Bourbon! The cards were not in my favor but the bourbon was delicious. The “Hold Up” is 9 year Kentucky Straight Bourbon and was good neat but even better on a rock. Cheers and hope you had a great weekend.

HARDIN’S CREEK ANNOUNCES ‘THE KENTUCKY SERIES’ AS THE NEXT RELEASE OF HIGHLY LIMITED AND ULTRA-RARE EXPRESSIONS

The Hardin’s Creek ‘Kentucky Series’ is a three part series Comprised of Hardin’s Creek Clermont, Hardin’s Creek Frankfort and Hardin’s Creek Boston, the Kentucky Series takes whiskey fans on a journey of ‘Kentucky terroir,’ showcasing the influence of diverse landscapes on the flavor profile of each whiskey.

Each expression within The Kentucky Series is a 17-year-old Bourbon, aged at one of three James B. Beam Distilling Company campuses – Clermont, Frankfort, or Boston. All three liquids were laid down with the same exact mash bill at the same time seventeen yea it iago, with the only difference being the campus locations at which they aged.

Expressions of the Kentucky Series will be released in limited quantities throughout the year, beginning with Clermont on June 1st, Frankfort on August 1st and Boston on September 1st.

The first release in the Kentucky Series - Hardin’s Creek Clermont - aged at the James B. Beam Distilling Co. in Clermont and bottled at the grand age of 204 months (17 years). The nuanced terroir and microclimates shaped by the rigid and rolling hills, the cool wind against the shelter of the valleys, and the pockets of rack houses placed close together, are aglow year-round beneath the strong Kentucky sunlight, making the unique contours of Clermont discernable in every pour.
The Clermont will be released at 110 proof and 169.99.
Color: Rich Amber with Darker Tones
Nose: Burnt Sugar tripled with matured toasted oak and sweet vanilla
Palate: Caramelized oak followed by brown spices and leather
Finish: Smooth and Sweet with lingering warmth

Are you excited about these releases? What do you think about 17 year whiskey from the same day but aged in different places? Going to be fun to compare them side by side.

Breaking Whiskey News!

The James B. Beam Distilling Co. is excited to announce the launch of their very first American Single Malt Whiskey – Clermont Steep™ American Single Malt Whiskey.

Today, for the first time, the James B. Beam Distilling Co. brings its 227 years of whiskey-making expertise and excellence to the American Single Malt Whiskey category with the launch of Clermont Steep™. Developed by Freddie Noe, 8th Generation Master Distiller of the Fred B. Noe Distillery, this venture into an emerging category explores the full potential of a single grain – American Malted Barley.

With little to no definition in the American Single Malt category, Noe developed his own defining guidelines, making intentional production choices to celebrate the flavor of this single grain at every step of development. Clermont Steep is a five-year-old liquid distilled and aged in Clermont, Kentucky, and matured in bespoke barrels to deliver warm toffee sweetness on the palate without overshadowing the unique, bready taste of American barley.

Noe and his team hand-selected the American malted barley for the mash and used Beam family jug yeast in the natural fermentation process. It’s the same yeast that is used in all Beam products, adding a sense of familiarity to every sip. The single malt was then distilled on a column still and aged for five years in barrels that were toasted, then quickly charred to a char level 1.

“I’m always looking toward the future of American Whiskey, and the boundless runway in this category intrigued me,” said Noe. “We don’t just want to participate in American Single Malt Whiskey; we want to help define it for the future of the category.”

Clermont Steep will be released at 94 proof with a SRP of 59.99

Honey Toasted Whiskey - Yes Please!!

has blended and finished a very tasty cask strength bourbon and corn whiskey blend aged in toasted barrels and then finished in honey barrels from Arkansas. The result is a natural flavor of sweetness both from the corn whiskey and the honey that goes from the beginning to the end of the pour. There is initial heat from the corn whiskey but it mellows as you sip and this bottle calls you back for more which says a lot right there. Think campfire s’mores made with the honey graham crackers and maybe a drizzle of honey on the marshmallow.

In todays market where you hear buzz words like toasted finish and honey finished whiskey you instantly expect the price to creep up but I was excited to learn Three Chords limited release of Honey Toasted Whiskey will msrp around $60.

Who is excited to try this release and see a new twist on toasted and honey finished whiskies.

Well done and Ari and the team.

Green River continues its rich history with the release of the Green River Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey!

Green River Wheated is comprised of 70% Kentucky-grown corn, 21% wheat and 9% 6-row barley and bottled at 90 proof.

HISTORY:
Originally founded in 1885, Green River (DSP-KY-10) is the 10th oldest distillery in Kentucky. Prior to prohibition, Owensboro, Ky. was one of the richest contributors to the bourbon industry with more than 20 distilleries. Green River, known as "the Whiskey Without Regrets," was the official medicinal whiskey of the U.S. Marine Hospital and has been referenced as the most expensive whiskey ever sold - 20 barrels were once traded for an interest in a Colorado gold mine. Fire and prohibition relegated the brand to history. It was reestablished in 2022. Green River was purchased by in July of 2022.

I am a big fan of these releases and love the consumer friend pricing that comes with them. What do you think?

Double the Oak - Double the flavor?? Let’s find out!

This latest release from is a easy drinking whiskey full of flavor. The 8 year Double Oak Kentucky Whiskey comes in at 92 proof but the additional full year spent in a second American oak barrel has added depth and complexity well past its proof. I enjoyed the aroma of sweet oak, dark chocolate and raspberry with a palate consisting of baking spice and vanilla. This very approachable pour ends with a medium finish a bit of sweet a bit spicy with hints of cinnamon. The only problem with this bottle is it is going to disappear very quickly.

This is a very nice release and I love the packaging. Let me know your thoughts when you try this.

Cheers and I look forward to continuing to share my whiskey journey.

Whiskey of the Year….. possibly!

This 2023 Michter’s 10 Bourbon was worth the wait and is absolutely an amazing bottle. Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson proved once again they are smarter than all of us and held these barrels till they were not just good but really good!

This is my favorite bottle so far this year and one that I expect will be high on my list at the end of 2023! This pour has a little bit of everything but starts off with a nose you instantly wish you could make into a candle. The pour has some old school dusty funk notes mixed in with a bit of dark fruit and a well rounded finish. It’s just sooo good!

Go find this this, try this, do whatever you can ti get ahold of it, because it is one I cannot get enough of.
