Getting there.
My trade set up coming soon.
Youtube video creator, 4wd enthusiast, remote touring, garage projects. This 4WD made me explore thi
Getting there.
My trade set up coming soon.
It has always been on my bucket list. Finally this is done.
Six years ago I heard about ecu remap. But I never had a chance to hv one because it's not really the right moment.
These days I tow more, having an idea how heavy the car is, settled in the tyre size... Etc
The time has come.
Dyno tune before and after. 43% gain in horsepower and 20% gain in torque.
Quite costly but definitely worth it down the track. I'm a long term benefit kinda guy.
Finish off the day with some camp fire.
This could be the last trip with this canopy and tray.
A trip in wet Collie. In my opinion the best weather yet in this place. Moist track but not too saturated.
Would be amazing if we are more familiar with the tracks in here.
Minimum requirements for these tracks would be at least 33' tyres (285s). 31' (265s) maybe fine in dry tracks. But when it comes down to wet muddy tracks, it really needs the big guns.
Welcome to the new member of the workshop!
Well its actually not a new tool. But I made it rather usable.
It's a vertical / horizontal metal cutting bandsaw from Hare & Forbes.
My opinion only, apart from try fact it can make an accurate square cut, the rest of it needs to be improved.
A more robust frame was build to carry the 60kg saw. I put some pneumatic wheels on so it's better wheeling around the shop.
The original vertical cutting table was replaced by a bigger and more robust version.
Overall, the bandsaw is at the right height for me to use and much more stable to use and transit.
Welcome the newest member of the workshop.
A notcher press.
Allowing notching horizontally.
No more vertical clumsiness.
Modified from a basic notcher tool. Eliminated problems from the too.
The only challenge is to align the press and the notchet spindle.
Bit of a rough job, but it cuts!
Built a simple diy shear, as a prototype for a future build.
Only cuts Ali due to mild steel blade. But it cuts up to 4mm easy. 5mm need to force it thru hard.
A good experience with shear mechanics.
Jerry can holder designed and built over Christmas. Finally get to finish up after crazy season greetings.
Good idea or nah
Testing and modifying DIY dimple die tool.
After testing my new tool from my last post. I realise modification is needed. So I welded a flat surface, ground to fine grit and text again.
Looks like this dimple die works!
Cannot wait to use in my projects.
It's a dimple die set. Or at least to mimic one.
An idea from an old fabricator with 30 years experience.
It's not perfect. But allowing me to do dimples before I can afford a $200 dollar set.
Took an hour to grind the die profile. Bloody hard work and searing hot to touch.
Tested a few dimples. Got the job done but at risk to deform the work piece.
Much potential but needs modifying.
More to come.
A little project today.
Finally after about two years, the bench grinder has a proper home.
Just another build. Hip thrust machine.
Welder housing on the Welding arm.
Didn't feel like hooking up the welder directly under the arm.
Having a housing feels right.
Please say welcome to the newest member of the workshop.
The spinning mast is called Big W.
Big W will hold a welder under its arm. Shifting the welder in and out of the radius. That way I can easily weld within the area of the arm circumference.
Bit of emergency repair of the camper corner after Edwards Road in Collie with Traxx 4wd Group WA. Track was crazy overgrown and the roof corner got pryed open with an extended crack. Corner was welded back up and reinforced with an extra aluminium corner plate.
Might have to make more protection plates in the other prime spots.
It's been a while. Had been busy with full time work, family and slow upgrades.
King's birthday spent well.
Switch panel and water heater mounted.
Haven't posted for a while because we have been busy!!
The wife had been asking for a deck. So guess what? We built one.
H3 pine bearers, h3 pine joists, deckings... H3 pine everything.
The base was set by concrete. 80 bags of concrete in a weekend.
Materials took one month to arrive.
Thanks for Christmas and new year.
Finished off with merbau wood stain and garden trim of the same colour to cover the sides. And a strategically placed fire pit to kick start of this Australian winter.
A canopy cable entry plate.
I couldn't find anything around so I decided to fab one myself.
Scrap 4-5mm aluminium found in the shed, cut and bend into shape.
Precise parameters made welding easier, practiced with steady hands resulted in water-tight joints.
Fit in a twin Anderson plug wall plate for 12v power connection, rated 50A.
Finished up with liquid nail glue to avoid drilling holes on the canopy wall.
Another upgrade to the pantry drawer.
This is a lifting drawer table.
A simple system that works well, although the lifting system is a pain to make.
Wooden drawer, aluminium table and lifting system.
Light weight yeh strong.
Finish with walnut and black japan wood stain.
Cool aluminium cover with rustic warm drawer appearance.
I have always thought of making a welding gas holder for convenience!
Here we are finally, a holder that's is made of cheap square section offcuts. Tight gas bottle fitment. Gate secured by the most comment latch (popularly used by ute side gates!). Mounted on aluminium unistrut rear rack. Do check on my canopy build.
Bit of a small project through the weekend!
I decided to fill the void with a drawer using scrap wood. Nylon strip as the drawer runner to keep out unnecessary weight.
So I spent a couple of days making this adjustable gym bench.
It was made of some junk steel and offcuts.
Foam was an off cut from a plastic store (so it was cheap).
Slide in/out pantry storage foundation done.
It was quite fiddly to fit the drawer runner (because apparently heavy duty sliders cannot be disconnected). But all works out well at the end.
Guess what I am working on?
Not a fan of woodwork. But it's somewhat satisfying.
An update to our canopy set up.
I have been working on a slide in/out pantry. This will be our main storage.
Watch this space... TBC
Exercise for the day
Who fancy a catch can of sludge?
One of the best engine mod I've done was installing a catch can. The amount of sludge it has caught from the engine is mind blowing.
Roughly 250mL after two to three months of continuous driving.
Some good amount of wood.
Enjoying our own leisure.
In the Australia outback, anywhere could be a spot for drone photography.
This is a resting spot about 200ks south of Carnarvon, Western Australia.
Land here is flat, trees are short with some treacherous hills in the background. Quite a good lunch spot.
Remember to stay fresh behind the wheels.
Flash back.
Back when we visited Kalbarri skywalk. One thing I've learnt after that day was I am not very good with heights haha. Each step on the skywalk gave me an urge to urinate.
Despite the over-engineered skywalk structure, the howling winds does shake the suspended walk path.
I kinda imagine we drop our phones from the skywalk into the bottomless abyss when taking photos.
The strong winds even make the Mavic drone struggle to hover. I was lucky enough to capture some pictures.
