ASANOVIC JOINS COSAFA SQUAD AHEAD OF THE SEMI FINAL MATCH

Chipolopolo coach Aljosa Asanovic took to the pitch with his lads, hours after linking up with them in Durban at the ongoing Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cup.

Asanovic and his European assistants had remained behind to sort out their visa entry into South Africa and missed the quarterfinal match that the Chipolopolo won 5-4 on post-match penalties. The match ended 1-1 in regulation time.

The Croat joined the team on Wednesday evening and did not waste time to drill the squad that faces the Teranga Lions of Senegal on Friday in the semifinals at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Zambia trained at the Escombe Training Club.

The Press

1. Introduction

The office of the General Secretary will be providing monthly or bi-monthly updates to its members. This is aimed at improving its communication with the general membership on the resolutions made by the Board.

2. Volleyball to Botswana and upcoming Beach tournaments

Zambia Volleyball Association participated in the just ended Zone 6 Beach Volleyball tournament in Botswana which took place from 29th June to 4th July,2022. Only the men’s team participated in the tournament. The team managed to reach the quarter finals despite one pair forfeiting the points as the team arrived late due to Covid19 challenges experienced when crossing the Kazungula Border on the Botswana side.

We urge all players, coaches, administrators and affiliates need to get a Covid19 vaccine. We will soon engage the Ministry of Health to start providing free Covid19 services at the venues for all league games so that we have 100 percent vaccinated ZAVA members.

3. International and National Volleyball Events

§ ZAVA National Beach Volleyball teams for both Men and women are expected to participate at the forth coming African Beach Volleyball Championship to be hosted in Morocco, Rabat from 25th July – 2nd August,2022.

§ Zambia will be hosting the Leg 4 Zone VI Beach volleyball tournament in Southern Province, Siavonga district from 17th -22 August,2022.

Zambia Airforce in partnership with Zambia National Services will be sponsoring a tournament this year. The tentative dates for the tournaments are 27th to 28th August,2022, in Lusaka.

4. Appointments and Administration

ZAVA has appointed the first female Beach Volleyball Coach by the name of Tilabelenji Mvunga. She is an experienced coach and player. We wish her the best in this new role.

The former ZAVA General Secretary Mr. Gift Chesekela is the legal commissioner. This is in line with the Congress resolutions of 2020. He has been tasked to review our constitution. As someone with legal background, we are confident he will be equal to the task.

Zambia Air Force Commander has agreed to second two officers to work full time at our secretariat. We will soon provide their names once all administrative process is done.

5. Communication and Engagement

The secretariat has lined-up a series of virtual meetings with commissioners, the press, regional executive members, and our affiliates. The dates and schedule will be shared before 10th July,2022. The platforms will be used to promote volleyball and not personal agendas.

We employ all regional chairpersons, clubs and volleyball funs to submit the names, contact details of their executives and their qualifications. This will help improve communication. The information should reach the ZAVA secretariat by 12th July,2022.

We plan to publish a magazine before the end of the year. We will be calling on individuals to be in this board. Contact the secretariat if interested.

All Regional bodies are expected to submit quarterly reports and update the General Secretary about the events taking place in their regions.

6. Sponsorship Deals

ZAVA is working day and night to find permanent sponsors for the national league. Many companies have been engaged. A committee has been put in place to help raise funds for the association. We invite individuals with brilliant ideas on how best clubs and the mother body can raise more funds to approach the secretariat.

7. Outstanding Awards.

We are aware that some clubs are owed money. ZAVA is committed to meet its obligations and the teams will be paid when money will be available.

The board will soon announce the prize money.

7. Abuse of Social Media

We have observed with concern, the abuse of social media and social bullying. We want to advice our members to think critically and logically before posting messages on personal and group social media. All employees from Public, quasi-government and corporate world are aware of such standing orders. Administrators of the social media groups should regulate their members. Members are encouraged to read the The Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act, 2021.

CONFIRMED SQUAD: LOCAL CHIPOLOPOLO NAMED!

■ Asanovic ropes in Africa Cup winner Chamanga James to mentor young strikers

*ROAD TO IVORY COAST 2023: Asanovic Names 23 Bullets for Local Camp

Chipolopolo coach Aljosa Asanovic has named 23 players for a local camp ahead of the Ivory Coast 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group H match against the Elephants on June 3.

Asanovic has romped in 42-year-old James Chamanga who will also be part of the backroom staff to mentor young players.
The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winner helped Red Arrows to their first title since 2004.

In an interview with the FAZ media, Asanovic says the local camp is a last-minute check up on prospective inclusions for the final squad that will head to West Africa for an international camp preceding the June 3 AFCON encounter.

“Our preparations are on course for the game against Ivory Coast on June 3. We start with the local camp where we are looking at the local players and in touch with foreign players whose leagues are still active,” Asanovic said.

“We know that local players also have a clogged calendar ahead with the CHAN and Cosafa that are coming up. Most importantly, the best of the local players will go with us to Ivory Coast and be part of the June 7 home match against Comoros Islands.”

Asanovic says he was also hoping that Chamanga’s presence will help the young players appreciate the rigours of professional football.

“The guy is a top professional, one who many young players can learn from. He will be with us to help show young players the way,” he said.

The local camp kicks off on Tuesday with foreign based players joining at different stages in line with the conclusion of their various leagues.

The Chipolopolo will not be heading to Doha given the unavailability of the bulk of the players the coach needs for the Ivory Coast assignment.
