Sorry for the 10 month hiatus from posting... I should have much more time going forward to dedicate to creating content. I unfortunately was let go from my 9to5 job in May 2020 (non Covid related RIF). I've decided to retire from my career as a software engineer and am looking forward to post work life. Starting this summer, I will be a volunteer at one of the Corps of Engineers campgrounds at Lake Shelbyville, so I will be able to spend quite a bit more time on the water fishing....

My one 'go to' site for most central Illinois lakes and fishing location reports, Larry's Fishing Hole, has been shut down for a while now...There is a Facebook group, but it isn't anything like the site of the past (missing the weekly updated fishing reports!). If you recently have received your renewal notice for your boat trailer, you may have noticed a HUGE increase in the price you have to pay. For TA licensed trailers (cargo capacity 3000 lbs. or less), which many smaller boat trailers and utility trailers are, has increased from $18 per year to $118 this year!

What is crazy about this is that they knew this was pretty much price gouging Illinois residents - a bill was introduced even before this increase was signed by the Governor into law to reduce the TA trailers back to the previous $18. [ 129 more words ]

Lowrance has finally released software updates (version 20.0) for their HDS Live, HDS Carbon and Elite Ti2 series displays. Also updated was the StructureScan 3D modules (version 20.0).

Head over to downloads.lowrance.com to get the latest software.

The latest 2020 Illinois Fishing Digest booklet is now available as a PDF file at: www.ifishillinois.org/regulations/FishingDigest.pdf

Since it is available as a PDF, it is a good idea to get that onto your SD card that's in your fish finder. I know at least Lowrance units can display PDF files.

Alternatively, save it on your cell phone. Having that document available may save you when you are questioning what exactly the creel limit is on a species or length limit on the body of water you are on.

Just a reminder - Illinois Hunting, Fishing and Sportsman Combination licenses went on sale March 1st. Licenses purchased now will be valid through March 31, 2021.

You can purchase licenses online at: https://www2.illinois.gov/dnr/LPR/Pages/default.aspx (link to IL DNR website).

Remember...if you buy a license prior to March 1st you are buying it for the PREVIOUS year...and they will not give you a refund if you do!
