PHOTOS: El-Rufai, Former Emir Of Kano, Visit Kaduna Community Bombed By Army

The Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai and the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, have visited Tudun Biri in Kaduna State where villagers attending Maulud celebration were bombed on Sunday evening.

The village was struck by an accidental airstrike on Sunday during a Maulud celebration, resulting in the loss of scores of lives.

The two leaders joined other leaders from the Tijjaniyya Islamic sect for a visit to the village on Friday.

Sanusi is a spiritual leader in the Tijanniyah Sufi order of Nigeria.

PHOTOS: Rivers Community Initiate Young Virgins Into Womanhood

Ogu kingdom, a community in the Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, once again gathered lots of attention on social media over the pictures of its annual Iria festival, a ceremony that ushers in young virgins into womanhood.

A PUNCH report revealed that the Iria, a ceremony of womanhood, is an ancient festival of the Okrika people organised by various towns, particularly in December and January period.

The event dates back to the 16th century and has continued to trigger excitement from both locals and outsiders as people look forward to the last three to four months of every year to have not only a glimpse but a full view of breasts–baring maidens being initiated into womanhood.

Apart from being a natural source of entertainment, the Iria Festival is seen as a yearly competition, which families in Okrika take advantage of to showcase chastity as parents present their virgin daughters and get them ready for the fattening room, where they are fed with body-nourishing meals, especially pounded yam mixed with pounded plantain and fresh fish.

PHOTOS: Interior Minister Unveils Remodelled Projects In Lagos

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has unveiled the refurbished Arrival "E" of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos State.

Tunji-Ojo also inaugurated the remodeled main entrance/exit gate and Quarter Guard at the Zone ‘A’ Headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Ikeja, the state capital.

The minister shared photos from the events on his X page on Saturday, noting that the unveiling took place on Friday.

"Yesterday in Lagos, I attended the handover of the remodeled clearance counters and refurbished Arrival "E" of Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

"The project, undertaken by Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), underscores the importance of partnership with the private sector," the minister said.

He added, "After commissioning the Arrival "E" of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, I moved to commission the remodeled main entrance/exit gate and Quarter Guard at the Zone ‘A’ Headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Ikeja, Lagos State, also yesterday (Friday)."

PHOTOS: Fighting Resumes In Gaza As Ceasefire Ends

Intense fighting erupted in Gaza on Friday, as a week-long ceasefire expired.

Israel resumed its bombardment of suspected Hamas positions in the densely inhabited Palestinian territory.

The Hamas-run health ministry in the Gaza Strip said 29 people have been killed in the first hours after the pause in hostilities ended at 0500 GMT.

Combat resumed shortly after Israel's army said it had intercepted a rocket fired from Gaza, the first from the territory since a missile launched minutes into the start of the truce on November 24.

According to AFP on Friday, December 1, the group's armed wing had received the order to resume combat and to defend the Gaza Strip with heavy fighting reported in parts of Gaza City.

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar, paid a visit to the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, and some wounded zoldiers at the military hospital in the state.

Abubakar's visit to the state was for an on-the-spot assessment of the challenges confronting troops of the Nigerian Army, as directed by President Bola Tinubu.

Photos from the visit were shared on the Nigerian Army page on Wednesday.

According to the statement accompanying the photos, the visit took place on Tuesday.

The statement partly read, "At the Headquarters Theatre Command, Defence minister was briefed on the operational activities and security situation in the North East theatre by the Theatre Commander Major General Gold Chibuisi, after which he proceeded to pay a visit to wounded in action personnel receiving treatment at the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital."

PHOTOS: One Died, Four Injured As Truck, Bus Collide In Lagos

An accident involving a truck and a mini commercial bus has claimed the life of one, leaving four others seriously injured at Ile-Zik in Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority disclosed this on its X handle on Saturday.

According to LASTMA, the accident was caused by speeding.

The caption read, "An accident between a truck and a mini bus at Ile-Zik due to speeding.

"Four passengers seriously injured with one of them confirmed dead. The rest have been taken to the hospital.

"Effort is on for evacuation while Officers are on ground doing the needful."

Davido's Aide, Israel DMW, Announces Marriage Crash

Davido's Logistics Manager, Israel Afeare, popularly known as Israel DMW, shared news of the end of his marriage to his wife, Sheila, in an Instagram post on Saturday.

In his detailed account, Israel DMW revealed that Sheila left their home on August 8, 2023, despite his substantial support since their marriage.

Israel also detailed acts of generosity, such as providing financial support, upgrading her phone, and indulging in shopping sprees for her.

Despite these efforts, he described a shift in Sheila's behaviour after their wedding, where she sought to impose standards on him, believing she had achieved status as a prominent figure on Instagram.

Additionally, Israel DMW pointed out that marrying someone from a Christian background and being a virgin did not ensure peace in his case.

He highlighted that his wife accused him of being a slave to his boss, Davido.

He said, "Marrying a lady because you met her during evangelism as a virgin, a pastor's daughter, a member of the same Winners Chapel church, might not guarantee anything peace at all. Don't be too eager or quick to trust people. People can change at any time.

"People can be very ungrateful and deceptive. I met Sheila on February 19, 2022. We became friends, which later became intimate.

"She told me she would only lose her virginity to the man that would marry her since her Ugep, Cross River, mother, who's now 41, had earlier married two different men, with two kids, before marrying her father and that she was overdue at 21 for marriage.

"We fully agreed with her terms and conditions. I immediately upgraded her unkept situation by giving her 300k and replacing her tattered phone of less than 60k with a new iPhone 12 Pro Max of 860k in less than two weeks.

"I later also replaced the 12 Pro Max with a brand 14 Pro Max of 1.2m that she uses to slay. I did a lot of shopping for her.

"Bought her clothes and bags, including expensive human hairs she's using without sleeping with her then. I later proposed, and she fully accepted. We later did a legal introduction to traditional and white weddings in Benin City.

Burna Boy Threatens To Hire 100 Lawyers, Sue Bloggers

Afrobeat star, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, has threatened to hire 100 lawyers to sue Nigerian bloggers, stating that he is being pushed to do so.

The Grammy-award-winning artiste made this known in a post via his X handle on Wednesday.

He wrote, "Dat money wey I wan give dem instablog dat time, e be like say na to give like 100 lawyers now. But I know say na hustle everybody dey hustle so e go pain me if I run dat kind tin. Why una dey push me na?"

This is coming almost two weeks after the "I Told Them' crooner offered to give Nigerian bloggers money to stop reporting about him.

Burna Boy noted that although he had never paid any media house to publicise his brand, he was open to doing so in exchange for no publicity.

Trump Loses Sister At 86

United States ex-president Donald Trump's older sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, has died in New York at the age of 86, US media reported Monday.

The former judge, who fell out with the ex-president during the later stages of his presidency, passed away at her home in Manhattan.

Barry was selected by President Ronald Reagan to serve on the Federal District Court in New Jersey in 1983, reportedly after the intervention of Donald Trump's then-personal lawyer and fixer Roy Cohn.

She was appointed to the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit by President Bill Clinton in 1993.

Barry was close to Donald Trump for decades, and was one of the few people whose advice he sought.

ABC said the siblings were in touch over recent years and met this summer at one of Trump's golf clubs.

A probe into Barry's alleged judicial misconduct was dropped when she retired in 2019, in the middle of an investigation into the family's tax records. She denied any wrongdoing.

Trump, 77, who hopes to win back the White House next year, lost his younger brother Robert S. Trump in 2020, while his first wife, Ivana Trump, died in 2022.

He made no immediate comment on Barry's death.

Daniel Okafor, the second son to actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has debunked claims by Stella Okafor, the actor's wife, that Jasmine, Mr. Ibu's adopted child, hijacked his bank account.

Stella took to her Instagram page on Sunday to allege that Jasmine hijacked the bank account where money was donated for the ailing actor by well-meaning Nigerians.

Her post partly read, "I do not have access to the main Access bank account where people make donations. It is being secretly controlled by Jazmine yet she is cooking up all kinds of lies and propaganda against me to keep absolute control of that account. How she manipulated her way and took control of that account is a story for another day."

PUNCH Online contacted Jasmine, who stated that she had no comment.

“I do not want to be involved with the online drama, at least not yet. I am more concerned for Daddy's well-being,” she said.

Jasmine suggested that our correspondent speak with Mr. Ibu's son, who introduced himself as Daniel Okafor.

"My name is Daniel Okafor; I am John Okafor's second son.

"There is no truth in what Stella Maris has been sharing online. Jasmine does not have access to that account; I have access to it. I am the signatory to the account and my father's next of kin."

Daniel also disclosed that Stella Maris is his stepmother, refusing to share more details about his mother.

"She is my step mother. My mother is not around at the moment," Daniel said.

Actor Charles Inojie Recounts Humorous Moments During Visit To Mr Ibu's Ward

Renowned actor and producer, Charles Inojie, on Monday, recounted his visit to his colleague, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, who is currently recuperating after undergoing seven surgeries, including the amputation of one of his legs.

In an account titled ‘MR IBU... THE INDOMITABLE HUMORIST!, Inojie shared the lively and humorous atmosphere he encountered during his visit, despite Mr Ibu's challenging health condition.

Describing the moment, Inojie wrote, "I never thought I could ever be able to relate this chapter of my encounter with Mr Ibu on his sick bed because I had this funny feeling that it had the potential of making light of a very dire situation as his condition presented."

He continued to share the banter exchanged between them, highlighting Mr Ibu's indomitable spirit and ability to maintain humour even in the face of adversity.

“I walked into his private ward in the ICU in the company of Chinyere Wilfred at whose behest we made the journey to Ever Care where he is being treated. We had just finished from a set, and she suggested that we take the opportunity to visit Ibu. With us were Jasmine, Mrs Ibu, and a woman I believe is her friend,” Inojie wrote.

He added, “From one joke to the other, Ibu literally entertained us. For a moment, I peered into his eyes as if searching for the secret of his willpower, and again, he levelled me out.
“IBU: ‘You dey pity for me? No fear, the doctor say I go fit still use the leg later, even though some betta-betta meat don commot for the leg.’

“You could never stop wondering where he got the strength under such agonising pain to exude such positive energy so effortlessly.
Then came the moment. I picked his hands from his sides and held them tightly as I muttered, ‘Let's pray.’

“We gazed intently at each other and connected on the fading highways of nostalgia, and upon the instance, I felt a mad rush of hot tears welling up beneath my quivering eyelids. I quickly turned away for fear my animal weakness was threatening to have the better of me, but too late. Ibu was crying, too!”

Sharing the lesson he learnt from the visit, Inojie added, “I left his ward with one of life's vital lessons running through my mind... Whoever can muster the willpower to survive in the face of anguish and life-threatening pain can defeat death even in the most fiercesome battle. May God Almighty grant Ibu a speedy recovery.”

PHOTOS: German Chancellor Visits UNILAG MAD House

German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz on Monday visited the MAD House of the University of Lagos.

The visit was part of his 2-day working visit to Nigeria.

The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz who arrived in Nigeria on Sunday, October 29, 2023, had already met with President Bola Tinubu.

His mission in Lagos also includes attending the opening session of a Nigeria-Germany Business Conference organised by the Nigerian-German Chamber of Commerce.

Olaf Scholz and his entourage arrived at the UNILAG Campus via the Lagoon Front, making him the first international visitor to do so.

The German delegation was received by the management of the University led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola.

The entire delegation immediately moved to the MAD House where Scholz had an interaction with some start-up entrepreneurs.

The MAD House, according to its Founder, Bayo Omoboriowo, is a Creative incubation space meant to nurture raw ideas into products, and from products into industry.

Detaining Naira Marley Without Evidence, A Violation Of His Rights — Shubomi, Singer's Sister

Shubomi, the sister to the embattled singer Azeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, has cried out over what she says violates her brother's human rights.

Earlier, a Magistrate Court remanded Naira Marley and associate Sam Larry in police custody pending the completion of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad's death.

Netizens have continued to seek justice for MohBad's death, promising that the injustice he allegedly suffered in Naira Matrley's hands will not be overlooked.

Lamenting the situation in an Instagram post on Saturday, Shubomi stated that there is no evidence proving her brother's involvement in Mohbad's death and his continuous detention is mainly to appease the public.

Shubomi added that detaining her brother this long without evidence violates his human rights.

She wrote, "Keeping someone who willingly traveled back to help in detention for nearly 30 days, with no charge, no evidence, no sufficient witness is a violation of his human rights. Keeping him in custody to appease social media and the internet mob is crazy.

"If you have evidence against him for anything he's been accused of, charge him! But if you don't release him. It shouldn't take this long for the investigation to be done.

"We all want the truth! We all want justice. What is the delay? We've already lost one person, trying to lynch another is not going to bring about justice."

Kaduna Refinery To Be Ready Q4 2024 — Minister

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, has revealed that the ongoing quick-fix project at the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemicals Company Limited will be back on stream by the end of 2024.

This was disclosed in a statement posted on the official X handle of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited on Saturday.

According to the statement, Lokpobiri disclosed this during an inspection tour of Kaduna Refinery & Petrochemicals while assessing the progress of work on the ongoing quick-fix project of the refinery on Saturday.

The statement read, "Lokpobiri said he is confident that the refinery will be restreamed by the end of 2024, considering the 'significant level of progress' he has witnessed on the tour.

"The Minister, who observed that he would continue to hold key players involved in the rehabilitation process of the nation’s refineries accountable, also pledged Federal Government support in ensuring the timely delivery of the project.

"According to the Minister, there is an urgent need to get the refinery back on stream for the nation’s economic prosperity and energy security, which are both paths to sustainable development."

In his remarks, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, reassured the Minister that the fuel plant at the refinery will be delivered by the end of 2024.

He stated that all hands are on deck to bring the refinery back on stream, stressing that the contractor has since mobilized to the site and the needed equipment for the quick-fix activities is already in place.

Kyari said, "We are very confident that we will get the appropriate financing to get to the end of it, and ultimately, we will start to deliver value to Nigerians again. We plan the quick fix for 60,000 barrels per day so that we can start making money from this plant and continue the other part of the refinery to bring it up to its full-fledged capacity.

"This will also tally with the completion of the Build, Operate, and Transfer on the pipeline so as to have a reliable pipeline delivery infrastructure."

Davido Breaks Silence On Dammy Krane's Debt Allegations

Award-winning music star, Davido, has responded to his colleague, Oyindamola Emmanuel, popularly known as Dammy Krane regarding the allegations of unpaid debts, stating that he had never received compensation for the three verses he contributed to Dammy Krane's song nine years ago.

Dammy Krane in a post on Tuesday claimed that Davido owed him for their successful collaboration on the song "Pere" and appealed to the musician to settle the debt, citing his daughter's impending school fees as the reason.

Responding to the allegations on Friday, Davido, in a post on X, pointed out that he had never received compensation for the three verses he contributed to Dammy Krane's song nine years ago.

Davido also recalled the times he provided shelter and sustenance to Dammy Krane in Atlanta when the latter was homeless.

Davido said, “I never got paid for that also my 3 verses I’ve gifted you all your dead career… .. oh yea plus my royalties, we charge now so that’s about $ 150k x3 a verse.. also house rent and food when u stayed in my house in Atlanta when you were homeless.”

PHOTOS: Lekki Toll Gate Deserted On Third Anniversary

There was no sign of any gathering as of 10:30 am on Friday, October 20, at the Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos State, where youths were expected to gather and mark the third anniversary of the protest.

On Thursday, fliers were rolled out on social media, stating that a peaceful walk would be held at Lekki Toll Gate on Friday.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, stressed that no gathering or convergence of any kind would be permitted in the vicinity of the tollgate.

Our correspondent, who is currently at the scene, reports that there was no sign of gathering as of 10:30 am today, October 20.
