When democratic socialists envision an ideal society, they see a society in which the needs of all are met.
But to what extent can socialism actually deal with the issues we face on a systemic level?
In this article, Maslow’s hierarchy – as flawed as it is as a psychological theory – is applied to the prospect of democratic socialism in the United States to evaluate its potential effectiveness in lifting the working class to self-actualization.
