Here’s a secret…

I’ve been to São Miguel twice and I am SO convinced that the Azores are the best hidden gem within a 5 hour flight of the East Coast USA.

If you’ve never heard of them, the Azores are a group of nine volcanic islands located in the North Atlantic. They are an autonomous region of Portugal with lush green hillsides, dramatic cliffs, and volcanic craters.

Sometimes you can find flights from major airports along the East Coast direct to João Paulo II Airport (PDL) in Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel (the main island) for about $300-400 RT.

Here are 5 of the best things to do in São Miguel when you get there:

🌋 Visit Sete Cidades and take in the view from Boca do Inferno viewpoint
🥾 Hike to Lagoa do Fogo
👙 Visit Furnas to soak in the hot springs at Parque Terra Nostra and try the traditional Cozido das Furnas meal
🐟 Eat fresh seafood! A whole restaurant meal for 2 costs about $40USD
🐋 Go whale watching April - October. The Azores are a marine hotspot and you can see humpback whales, s***m whales, fin whales and several species of dolphin
✈️ Take an inter-island flight to visit the other Azores islands, like Terceira, Pico, and Flores Island.

If planning a trip stresses you out…

Then this is your sign to simply plan less or just go without any plan at all (yes that’s allowed!)

I’ve been taking trips like this more and more, where the destination is mostly just the stay itself. It’s a low effort way to get out of the routine and see something different, without making the trip into another thing to manage 💆🏻‍♀️

👉 Not every trip needs an itinerary but sometimes it’s nice to have a starting point, so I made a free collection of mini weekend itineraries from some of my favorite trips for you. Say ‘weekend’ and I’ll send it over!

Did you know there are three ways to see Kaaterskill Falls?

Kaaterskill is actually two waterfalls - the Upper Falls and the Lower Falls. Combined, they make the tallest waterfall in New York State.

I recommend Kaaterskill Falls to a lot of people because it’s so pretty and has trail options for different levels of hiking and adventure preferences.

If you are planning a trip to Kaaterskill Falls in the Catskills of Upstate NY, here are all the ways you can see it:

1. Get a Birds Eye from from the viewing platform at the top of the Falls. It’s an easy 0.5 mile walk from the parking lot on Laurel House Rd. This is one of the most popular and accessible ways to see Kaaterskill Falls.

2. Hike down to the base of the Upper Falls. This path is about a mile and more challenging. There are lot of stairs and steeper sections. It leads you to a closer view of the middle cascade, which has a drop of about 85 feet.

3. Go all the way down to the lower section of Kaaterskill Falls for an up close view of the lower cascade

⚠️ There have been fatal accidents here. Always wear actual hiking boots and use caution around cliffs

🚮 Always follow Leave No Trace and pack out ALL of our trash

❄️ You NEED micro spikes in the winter (and even into early spring) because the stairs and trail are covered in ice

When I packed for Antarctica, boots were my biggest question mark 🤷🏼‍♀️

Everyone assumes you need thick, stiff bricks on your feet to stay warm, but I’ve learned that the right gear is not always the biggest gear.

I put ’s most extreme boots, the Tundra ESC, through the wringer when we arrived to the White Continent - wet landings, hours in the snow and ice

AND I could still feel the ground beneath me. Which I really liked because don’t we all come to Antarctica for a real connection to one of the wildest places on Earth?

What’s the most extreme environment you’ve tested your gear in? Let me know below! 👇

Plot twist at the end 👀🍻

If youre wondering what the polar plunge in Antarctica is really like, here’s a some questions I always people ask in case you’re thinking about doing it:

1. Do you HAVE to do it? Nope - its totally optional. Lots of people just watched instead (but tbh I think you’d regret it if you were physically able to and didnt)

2. How cold is the water? Its about 28F/-2C! Literally just below freezing

3. Do you jump off the ship? It depends on the expedition but the crew set up a platform between the zodiacs next to the ship. I actually liked it this way because you could also dip your feet in on the platform if you didn’t want to fully jump in

4. Is the polar plunge safe? I personally felt very safe! There’s crew and a doctor on stand by in case of an emergency

5. How long do you spend in the water? Only a few seconds! It’s so cold it would be hard to stay in any longer than that 🤣

6. Does it hurt? Not really - I would say its more of a whole body shock. Definitely more adrenaline than pain

7. Would I do it again? 10000% ! It also makes a great story lol

Is the polar plunge in Antarctica on your bucket list?

I’ve seen a lot of beautiful places, but there’s something about Torres del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia that just hits soo different.

It’s like the entire place feels too perfect to be real. One moment you’re driving through golden grasslands and the next you’re surrounded by jagged peaks and glacial lakes. And everything just feels so wild - guanacos roam freely, condors soar overhead and the wind and expansive landscapes remind you just how small we all are (which is my fav feeling)

I’m so beyond grateful to have gotten the chance to experience summer in Patagonia - and happy to report that it FAR exceeds the hype ✨

Some favorite moments:
• Horseback riding with this insane backdrop
• Sunset at Lake Pehoé - cold, but worth it
• Watching guanacos go about their day 🦙
• Waking up at 2AM to watch sunrise from Base Torres, one of the most iconic hikes in the world
• My first time in ostrich crossing territory (didn’t see one tho)
