US welcomes Ghani-Abdullah deal, urges for political settlement to end violence.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo welcomed a power-sharing deal signed Sunday by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and his rival Abdullah Abdullah, and pressed for a political settlement to end surging militant violence.
“Secretary Pompeo congratulated the two leaders for reaching an agreement on inclusive governance for Afghanistan,” Pompeo’s spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement.
She added that Pompeo “regretted the time lost” during a bitter months-long feud that plunged the country into political crisis”.
He reiterated that the priority for the United States remains a political settlement to end the conflict and welcomed the commitment by the two leaders to act immediately in support of prompt entry into intra-Afghan negotiations,” the statement added.
Sunday’s breakthrough sees Abdullah heading peace talks with the Taliban, as Afghanistan struggles with a rapid spread of the deadly coronavirus and brutal attacks that saw dozens killed last week.
Experts hope the agreement will help put Afghanistan on the road to greater stability. Abdullah served as Afghanistan’s “chief executive” under an earlier power-sharing arrangement, but lost that post after he was defeated in a presidential election that incumbent Ghani — a former World Bank economist — won in September amid claims of fraud.
Abdullah, an ophthalmologist, declared himself president and held his own swearing-in ceremony on March 9, the day Ghani was re-installed as president.

Coronavirus cases cross 40,000 in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s coronavirus cases crossed 40,000 on Sunday after 1,352 new infections were detected, while the death toll in the country has gone up to 873 with nearly 40 more people succumbing to COVID-19, heath authorities said on Sunday.
The Ministry of National Health Services said that out of the total 40,151 cases, Sindh has recorded 15,590, Punjab 14,584, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 5,847, Balochistan 2,544, Islamabad 947, Gilgit-Baltistan 527 and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir 112.
A total of 39 people have died during the last 24 hours, taking the number of fatalities to 873, while another 11,341 people have fully recovered, it said.
So far, 373,410 tests have been conducted in the country, including 14,175 in the last 24 hours.

Mohmmand_Dam - Commencement of Excavation activities at Access tunnel for Diversion Tunnels.

800MW Mohmand Dam Hydropower Station is located on the Swat River 48 kilometers north of Peshawar City in the Mohmand District of Western Pakistan. The installed capacity of the power station is 800,000 kilowatts, and four mixed-flow units with a stand-alone capacity of 200,000 kilowatts are installed.

The main works of the project include access roads and owner camps, dams and ancillary works, irrigation facilities and ancillary works, design, supply and installation of electromechanical equipment and hydraulic metal structures. It has comprehensive functions of power generation, flood control, irrigation and water supply, which are of great significance for alleviating power shortage in Pakistan, providing agricultural irrigation, mitigating flood disasters, and resolving water resource crises.

During the current year, around four million students from 9th to 12th classes were to appear in examinations, which have been cancelled due to the deadly virus & all educational institutions in the country had already been closed till July 15.

Government has decided to promote students of grade 9 and 11 to the next class without examinations due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Students would not take composite examinations in 2021, only appear in the examination of grade 10 or 12.
All students of grades 10 and 12, who had cleared all the subjects in their 9th and 11th class exams, will be declared passed on the basis of their previous results.
These students will also be given three per cent additional marks to their total.
