🚨 New episode alert: Chris Hitchins - ‘A Hitch in the City’

This week Vivian is joined by Christopher Hitchins, UK Managing Partner of ‘Transatlantic firm of the year’, Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP.

As well as being one of the UK’s top employment lawyers and leading one of the city’s fastest growing firms, Chris is also that rarest of beasts; a straight-talking lawyer who isn’t afraid to be brutally honest about his own privilege, his personal failings and the sometimes-toxic culture of top law firms.

Like many lawyers, Chris feared his biggest failure was (initially) not making partner, but the real ‘failure’ came after he’d made partner when, at a previous firm, he found himself presiding over the very type of toxic culture he’d strived to avoid.

At that point, Chris’s story took a dramatic turn when a health crisis threatened to destroy his career but also left him with a strange ‘superpower’ and new sense of perspective.

This week’s guest is Roberta Lucca, the BAFTA-winning founder of leading games developer Bossa Studios, host of the podcast ‘Hyper Curious’ and ‘The Apprentice’ guest judge. Roberta joins Vivian to share the story of her ‘difficult second album’. From the high of winning that BAFTA with Bossa (which Roberta says taught her nothing except that it was possible!) to the painful and personal lows of having to close down her next business.

As you’d expect from someone chosen to advise Lord Sugar and a self-described ‘entrepreneurial anarchist’, Roberta doesn’t hold back in challenging traditional thinking or cosy assumptions. Whether it’s the need for founders to be honest with themselves about where their strengths lie, how leaders can become trapped by job titles or her thought-provoking take on the failure hypothesis.

As Roberta says ‘low moments happen in slow motion, high moments happen on fast forward’ which is why recording this episode flew by for us.

Amazing response to Fortune-500 CEO turned private equity titan turned author Scott Mackin's () episode.

Thanks again to Scott for his brutal honesty in sharing his story of facing corporate bankruptcy, divorce and the prospect of fatal heart disease.

And thank you also to the hundreds of people who’ve already listened to Scott’s story over the last week and everyone who has followed, shared and liked the show.

For those who haven’t had the chance to listen yet here’s a snippet where Scott talks about the encroaching shadow of the Enron scandal as he battled to save his own Fortune-500 company.
