"A project to develop small nuclear power reactors in Poland is moving forward, with Polish energy company Orlen and two U.S. government financial institutions signing an agreement Monday.

Poland is turning toward energy that is renewable or does not use climate-changing fossil fuels as it tries to break its reliance on coal. Moscow's invasion of Ukraine also has accelerated Poland's drive to cut its dependence on Russian oil and natural gas.

In a ceremony at the U.S. ambassador's residence in Warsaw, the U.S. Export-Import Bank and U.S. International Development Finance Corporation signed letters of interest to lend up to $3 billion and up to $1 billion, respectively, to the Orlen Synthos Green Energy project. It's aims is to develop around 20 small BWRX-300 modular reactors designed by GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy.

U.S. Ambassador Mark Brzezinski stressed that Russia's aggression against Ukraine almost 14 months ago reinforced the need to turn toward safe and reliable energy sources."

Demand for air conditioners (ACs) has increased significantly as people rushed to retailers for respite from the ongoing heat wave sweeping across In one way, this also gave some relief to electronic the country. home appliance retailers as sales had been dull.

According to Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Dhaka recorded a maximum temperature of 40.4 degrees Celsius on Saturday, the hottest day in 58 years.

The last time capital saw such temperatures was in 1965, when 42 degrees Celsius was recorded. It felt even hotter for the low humidity in the air. According to market insiders, the demand for ACs has increased by 20 per cent to 25 per cent this year compared to that in the same period of last year.

On the number of ACs being sold, reliable data is hard to come by. Industry people estimate that at least 500,000 units meant for homes would be sold this year. It was around 400,000 last year. On an average, Tk 5,000 crore worth of ACs are sold for residential and commercial purposes every year.

The months of April, May and June are the peak season for sales of ACs as temperatures start to rise from March.
Nearly 90 per cent of a year's sales come about during this period.

"During the last 10 days, the sales of ACs increased as a heatwave is sweeping across the country, including Dhaka," said Nurul Afser, deputy managing director of Electro Mart Limited (EML).

He said the sales this time increased by around 25 per cent year-on-year.

He claimed that the EML held at least a 60 per cent market share when it came to locally manufactured ACs for providing "quality products at reasonable prices".

"We maintain 100 per cent compliance with our assurance of aftersales services to satisfy customers. Consumers accept GREE ACS due to their reasonable price and quality of service," he said.

In the midst of a severe heatwave, Dhaka reached its highest temperature in decades today, reaching 40.5°C.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, yesterday's peak temperature in Dhaka was 40.4°C, making it the hottest day the city had seen in 58 years until today.

The highest temperature in the country recorded today was in Chuandanga at 41.8°C. The district recorded 42.2°C yesterday. Jashore also experienced the same temperature of 41.8°C today.

After months of debate and verbal approval, we finally know the date on which "Pathaan" will release in Bangladesh. From May 5, fans can finally see Shah Rukh Khan's commercial blockbuster in our halls.

The film is being imported through the SAFTA agreement through Action Cut Entertainment. "A new era has dawned on us," said Anonno Mamun, on behalf of the organisation. "By Eid, 40 halls will be ready and capable to display 'Pathaan'.

Earlier, government of Bangladesh approved the import of films made in the languages of Indian subcontinent on five conditions including export of films made by Bangladesh. 8 films can release this year, and another 10 can release in 2024. 'Pathaan' was released on January 25. The film, which is said to be one of the most successful Hindi films of all time, features Deepika Padukone, John Abraham and Salman Khan in a cameo appearance.

Violence erupted between Sudan's main paramilitary group and the armed forces on Saturday in an apparent struggle for control against the backdrop of the country's halting moves toward elections after a military coup.

Amid conflicting reports from the two sides, the army rejected assertions by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that they had seized the presidential palace, army chief's residence and airports in Khartoum and the northern city of Merowe.

Doctors confirmed three deaths but said many more civilians had been killed and wounded in the clashes that shook residential neighbourhoods of the capital. Fighting was also taking place at the headquarters of Sudan's state TV, according to an on-air anchor.

The army said the Sudanese air force was conducting operations against the RSF. Footage from broadcasters showed military jets flying low over Khartoum, but Reuters could not independently confirm the material.

Republicans in Tennessee have been accused of 'overt racism' after expelling two Black Democrats from the state legislature.

In an act of unprecedented retaliation, Republicans removed the two lawmakers for joining a gun control protest following the Nashville shooting, while sparing a white Democrat who also participated.

Justin Jones, representative for Nashville, and Justin Pearson, who represented Memphis, gave rousing speeches in the chamber before the majority-white legislature voted to oust them, leaving tens of thousands of mostly Black and Brown Tennessee residents without representation.

Justin Jones, 27, said he had "no regrets, and would continue to speak up for Tennesseans who are demanding change".

"What happened yesterday was an attack on our democracy and overt racism," he said. "The nation got to see clearly what's going on in Tennessee, that we don't have democracy especially when it comes to Black and Brown communities. This is what we have been challenging all session, a very toxic, racist work environment."

Jones said Republican lawmakers were trying to take Tennessee backwards, and pointed to the state's history of white supremacy, the birthplace of the ultra-violent Ku Klux Klan.

Meanwhile Gloria Johnson, the white Democrat spared expulsion by a one-vote margin, was asked by reporters about the split vote as she left the chamber on Thursday.

"I'll answer your question; it might have to do with the color of our skin," said Johnson, a retired teacher.

Republican lawmakers denied allegations of racism, and said the expulsions were necessary to avoid setting a precedent that lawmakers' disruptions of proceedings through protest would be tolerated.

"Apple Inc said on Thursday it would use only recycled cobalt in batteries by 2025 as a part of its efforts to make all its products carbon neutral by the end of the decade.

Magnets in Apple devices will use recycled rare earth elements, and in-house designed printed circuit boards will use recycled tin soldering and gold plating, the company said.

Apple is pushing to become carbon neutral through its entire supply chain and the life cycle of every product by 2030. On Tuesday, it also doubled its financial commitment to a fund it had established two years ago to invest in projects that remove carbon from the atmosphere.

Two men on Saturday fired at troops at a Russian military firing range near Ukraine, killing 11 and wounding 15 others, before getting killed, the Russian Defence Ministry said.

The ministry said in a statement that the shooting took place in the Belgorod region in southwestern Russia that borders Ukraine. It said that the two men from an unnamed ex-Soviet nation fired on soldiers during target practice and were killed by return fire.

The ministry called the incident a terrorist attack.

The shooting comes amid a hasty mobilization ordered by President Vladimir Putin to beef up Russian forces in Ukraine - a move that triggered protests and caused hundreds of thousands to flee Russia.

CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk, has declared that his rocket company will continue to support the Starlink internet service in Ukraine. This occurred a day after he stated that it was no longer possible to do so.

The announcement was made on Twitter by Musk, who wrote: "The hell with it... Even though Starlink is still losing money & other companies are getting billions of taxpayer S, we'll keep funding Ukraine govt for free."

According to Ukraine, Starlink was essential for keeping its military and populace online and restarting critical infrastructure following Russian attacks. The decision to continue funding the service was made after Mr. Musk, the CEO of Tesla and richest man in the world reportedly requested that the Pentagon fund the Starlink program on his behalf, according to US media.

Fedorov, the vice-prime minister of Ukraine, played down the hostilities between his country and Mr. Musk, tweeting that the billionaire "is among the world's top private donors supporting Ukraine" and "Starlink is an essential element of our critical infrastructure." he continued.

It's confirmed, BTS will be heading to the military very soon without any delay. Big Hit Music company has confirmed the same via a Twitter post. Sharing long statements in English, Japanese and Chinese, the music company confirmed that all members of the hit band will fulfil the mandatory military service in the coming days.

In a statement, the music company stated that Jin will start his process as early as October end. Others will join as and when they are asked. And, by 2025, they will come back together as a boy band and will drop more songs for the ARMY.

"The speed record for data transmission using a single light source and optical chip has been shattered once again. Engineers have transmitted data at a blistering rate of 1.84 petabits per second (Pbit/s), almost twice the global internet traffic per second.

It's hard to overstate just how fast 1.84 Pbit/s really is. Your home internet is probably getting a few hundred megabits per second, or if you're really lucky, you might be on a 1-gigabit or even 10-gigabit connection - but 1 petabit is a million gigabits. It's more than 20 times faster than ESnet6, the upcoming upgrade to the scientific network used by the likes of NASA

Even more impressive is the fact this new speed record was set using a single light source and a single optical chip. An infrared laser is beamed into a chip called a frequency comb that splits the light into hundreds of different frequencies, or colors. Data can then be encoded into the light by modulating the amplitude, phase and polarization of each of these frequencies, before recombining them into one beam and transmitting it through optical fiber.

In experiments, researchers from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and Chalmers University of Technology used the setup to transmit data at 1.84 Pbit/s, encoded in 223 wavelength channels, down a 7.9-km-long (4.9-mile) optical fiber that contained 37 separate cores. For reference, the global internet bandwidth has been estimated at just shy of 1 Pbit/s, meaning this system could potentially handle all of that at once with plenty of room to grow?

"Amid an ever-growing set of studies detailing the negative effects of video games and screen time on adolescent health, a new investigation offers some good news for young gamers.

Children who play video games for at least three hours a day may have better cognitive performance than those who never play the games, according to research published Monday in JAMA Network Open

However, authors stress more data are needed to better understand any potential harms or benefits video games may have on children's developing brains.

Findings are based on a study of nearly 2,000 children, marking the largest investigation ever conducted to asses the association between video games, cognition, and brain function.

The investigation was carried out as part of the national Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development study, which receives support from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).

"While we cannot say whether playing video games regularly caused superior neurocognitive performance, it is an encouraging finding, and one that we must continue to investigate in these children as they transition into adolescence and young adulthood," said lead study author Bader Chaarani in a release.

"Many parents today are concerned about the effects of video games on their children's health and development. and as these games continue to proliferate among young people, it is crucial that we better understand both the positive and negative impact that such games may have

Specifically, children who played video games scored higher on cognitive skill tests that measured impulse control and working memory. In general, they were faster and more accurate on both tests measured.

Children who played video games also demonstrated more brain activity in regions associated with attention and memory than those who didn't play the games.

All children included in the study were either nine or ten years old and completed surveys about how much time they spent playing video games. Researchers collected cognitive and brain imaging data, in part by conducting

Israel and Lebanon have officially approved a historic United States brokered agreement laying out their maritime boundary for the first time, which opens up the possibility for both countries to conduct offshore energy exploration

Lebanon's President Michel Aoun signed a letter at the presidential palace on Thursday morning that will be submitted to US officials at Lebanon's southernmost border point of Negoura later in the day.

Top Lebanese negotiator Elias Bou Saab said the deal, which ends a long-running maritime border dispute in the gas-rich Mediterranean Sea, marked the beginning of a "new era"

Israel's government also ratified the agreement on Thursday, a statement from Prime Minister Yair Lapid's office said. Lapid said the deal was a "political achievement" for Tel Aviv as "it is not every day that an enemy state recognises the State of Israel, in a written agreement, in front of the entire international community.

The two countries have no diplomatic relations and have formally been at war since Israel's creation in 1948.

Beirut has sought to avoid framing the agreement as normalisation with Israel, insisting that another annexe scheduled to be signed by both sides at the UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura later on Thursday be signed in separate rooms

The deal is expected to come into force later on Thursday, after US representatives at the United Nations peacekeeping mission officially announce its approval by both sides.

On Thursday night, Elon Musk closed his $44 billion deal to buy the social media service, said three people with knowledge of the situation. He also began cleaning house, with at least four top Twitter executives - including the chief executive and chief financial officer - getting fired on Thursday. Musk had arrived at Twitter's San Francisco headquarters on Wednesday and met with engineers and ad executives.

The closing of the deal, which followed months of drama and legal challenges as Musk changed his mind about buying the company, sets Twitter on an uncertain course. Musk, a self-described "free speech absolutist," has said that he wants to make the social media platform a more freewheeling place for all types of commentary and that he would "reverse the permanent ban" of former President Donald Trump from the service.
