It's a sunny afternoon in the Hollywood Heights.
Kurt and Courtney are entertaining their bandmates, along with a gathering of likeminded alt rockers.
Following the hugely successful launch of their albums Nevermind and Blood Sugar S*x Magik and their subsequent tour dates together in late 91, Kurt invites the Red Hot Chilli Peppers over. Never ones to miss a shindig, Flea and Frusciante hop to it.
Never too far away from fellow Seattle grunge scene members, Kurt also extends and invitation to Chris Cornell.
As the beers and a few harder substances flow and guitars get passed around the house, Kurt, Dave, Flea, Frusciante and Cornell gather in the smoke-filled back room of the house. Kurt is fidgeting with an acoustic guitar in his hand and starts strumming the chords to Something in the Way. The room gets quiet as he sings the first verse. Flea picks up an acoustic bass and joins in as Frusciante grabs a second guitar to provide some ambience. Dave is keeping time with his drum sticks and the padding on his chair.
"It's okay to eat fish
'Cause they don't have any feelings"
As Kurt leans into the chorus, a second voice joins him. Chris Cornell adds a piercing harmony.
"Something in the way, Mm"
The group is feeling it now. It's spontaneous, organic and moving. This is the music they love.
As the chorus finishes and Kurt prepares for the second verse, he looks to the back of the room and sees a young woman with jet black hair. He doesn't know her but heard someone mention she's from Canada and working on an album that's going to be a standard bearer for kick ass women. He gives her a nod & Alanis takes the second verse.
"Underneath the bridge
Tarp has sprung a leak"
This is Lorne Green's Dog and the Captain's Log. The best 90s supergroup that never happened.
How did we get here? The we set ourselves was to each choose one iconic album from the 90s, then battle it out to build an epic supergroup.
