NEW SERIES, NEW EPISODE!

The Groovy Guys are back with another confounding vinyl challenge series. This are about to heat up in the Groove Lounge, because we're taking on the Seven Deadly Sins.

Each episode will tackle one sin. The Groovy Guys will each present a record from their collection and plead their case as to why it best fits the theme. At the end of each episode we will cast our votes - 3 pts for 1st, 2 pts for second, 1 Pt for third. We can't vote for our own pick. The pick with the most points wins that episode.

And for our sins, we made the challenge a little harder by trying our damndest not to feature any artists that have been on the pod before. So sorry if you come here for the Beatles, Zeppelin, Stones, ACDC, KGLW or Sam Roberts Band.

In episode one of this series, we're talking about GREED.

The albums the Groovers have chosen are Metallica - Master of Puppets, Kiss - Destroyer, Notorious B.I.G. - Life After Death and Rage Against the Machine - Evil Empire.

Enjoy... and go to Hell!

Kendel Carson is a woman who rocks!

She appears to be the go-to fiddle player for every Canadian band looking to add that sweet, sweet sound to their albums and touring shows. She's also an accomplished solo musician and a member of Alan Doyle's Beautiful Beautiful Band.

She features in a number of records in my collection so I had to showcase her in our most recent episode - Women Who Rock II.

WOMEN WHO ROCK 🔥 🤟🏼

Our latest ep is all about it. We chat about four incredible female artists who are kicking butt in their music and deeds - Phoebe Bridgers, Hayley Williams of Paramore, Kendel Carson and Kate 'Babyshakes' Dillon of Full Flower Moon Band.

This was also our first recording session in person, after many years trudging away in the virtual world. We're bias, but we think the result is a much better product. We're working on making that setup the norm, rather than the exception.

Check out our latest ramblings - link in bio.

PSA: We have departed the matrix and entered the real world! The Groovy Guys have officially recorded the pod in person for the first time. It only took us several years 🤣

Our next ep is our regular March topic of Women Who Rock and there are some serious TUNES to be talked about and some cool vinyl nerdery as well.

We've also got another episode of Diggin, Spinnin Giggin in the can. Keep your ears peeled and give us a follow on Spotify!

We met the fu***ng Chats!

The Groovy Guys gathered in Toronto to see live at
and decided to hit up 3 record stores beforehand.

After digging at and High Note, we arrived at and welcomed us to the shop with some Chats music as we arrived. We figured that was a good omen and sure enough the band showed up to have a stab and a dig.

Shoutout to as well for their epic value bin.

Needless to say, our boots are full.

Diggin, spinnin, giggin. Ain't nothing better.

Three years after starting the pod, the Groovy Guys finally got together in person for the first time.

Did I mentioned I'm a Nirvana fan? 🤣

When the call came to build our 90s rock supergroup it was a no brainer for me to reach for my shelf full of Nevermind records!

Had a tough day? Spin some grunge. Everything will be alright.

If you haven't already, check out our supergroup series now at the link in our bio.

In the latest ep, we picked four iconic 90s albums and built an epic supergroup.

It's a sunny afternoon in the Hollywood Heights.

Kurt and Courtney are entertaining their bandmates, along with a gathering of likeminded alt rockers.

Following the hugely successful launch of their albums Nevermind and Blood Sugar S*x Magik and their subsequent tour dates together in late 91, Kurt invites the Red Hot Chilli Peppers over. Never ones to miss a shindig, Flea and Frusciante hop to it.

Never too far away from fellow Seattle grunge scene members, Kurt also extends and invitation to Chris Cornell.

As the beers and a few harder substances flow and guitars get passed around the house, Kurt, Dave, Flea, Frusciante and Cornell gather in the smoke-filled back room of the house. Kurt is fidgeting with an acoustic guitar in his hand and starts strumming the chords to Something in the Way. The room gets quiet as he sings the first verse. Flea picks up an acoustic bass and joins in as Frusciante grabs a second guitar to provide some ambience. Dave is keeping time with his drum sticks and the padding on his chair.

"It's okay to eat fish
'Cause they don't have any feelings"

As Kurt leans into the chorus, a second voice joins him. Chris Cornell adds a piercing harmony.

"Something in the way, Mm"

The group is feeling it now. It's spontaneous, organic and moving. This is the music they love.

As the chorus finishes and Kurt prepares for the second verse, he looks to the back of the room and sees a young woman with jet black hair. He doesn't know her but heard someone mention she's from Canada and working on an album that's going to be a standard bearer for kick ass women. He gives her a nod & Alanis takes the second verse.

"Underneath the bridge
Tarp has sprung a leak"

This is Lorne Green's Dog and the Captain's Log. The best 90s supergroup that never happened.

How did we get here? The we set ourselves was to each choose one iconic album from the 90s, then battle it out to build an epic supergroup.

To hear us rambling on, check out the full ep. Link in bio.

Cheeky dig at in Auckland, NZ. You never know what you'll find. Had a quick flick through the metal section and an EP caught my eye. Figured it was a local band. Gave it a quick spin on the listening station and liked what I heard (p.s. if a record store doesn't have a listening station, can you even shop there!?). When I presented it to the cashier he was stoked to inform me that Ginzu and the Steak Knives was indeed a local metal band and John from Real Groovy's web store was in the band! What a great memento from our trip to Aotearoa.

Part 2 of our rock supergroup challenge is live!

This month, we're digging the 70s, in our quest to build the ultimate rock supergroup.

How does this
Work? Each episode, we pick four iconic albums from one decade, then use those musos to build a band.

For the 70s, we've gone with:
Queen - A Night at the Opera
Fleetwood Mac - Rumors
Led Zeppelin - III
Black Sabbath - Paranoid

📢 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐑𝐎𝐂𝐊 𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐏! 📢

We're kicking off a seven-episode , setting ourselves the epic task of building the ultimate .

How will it work? Each episode, we'll cover a single decade from the sixties to the twenty-tens, sharing four albums we consider to be untouchable and using those musos to build a rock supergroup from that decade.

Our first ep covers the sixties - diving straight into one of the most tumultuous and divisive decades in modern history. The era of the civil rights movement, counterculture, flower power, psychedelic drugs and the Vietnam War.

Our albums? Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Let It Bleed, Electric Ladyland and ST.

Who will emerge victorious in this first battle of the bands? Who will reign supreme in the rock supergroup of the sixties?

Check it out now - link in bio.

Love finding old tickets I stashed in books around the house.

This one stands out because it was a last-minute decision and a bit of an internal arm wrestle to muster the energy to go to a gig on a Monday night, but you never, NEVER regret seeing live. It was an incredible show, as expected.

Sadly, it also stands out for the fact Keith Flint left us just 50 days later to head off to the great gig in the sky 😢.

Heartbreaking news. Canada has lost one of its great storytellers.

Gordon Lightfoot was a Canadian folk music icon, a poet and troubadour.

His songs documented life in the Great White North, exploring Canada's, geography, people and culture.

His legacy will live on in his incredible music.

From all of us at the pod, Rest in Peace, Mr Lightfoot.

RIP Broderick Smith, multi-instrumentalist and singer of Australian country rock group The Dingoes.
