In the near future the dollar will play a role, but a very diminished role. The problem is the US economy can't function in its current form without the dollar being the world reserve currency because we have no way of funding a trillion dollar plus trade deficit.

So the dollar is going to collapse to the point where that trade deficit goes away and what is our economy going to look like when we can't import a trillion dollars a year worth of goods that we didn't produce. It's going to be very different.

Shortages in goods will develop and people's jobs that depend on those goods will be unemployed.

While it made sense to fast track the TikTok divestiture bill by tying it to foreign aid funding, I can’t help but feel that in the next 270 days grace period that TikTok has to find a US buyer (not to mention the certainty that ByteDance will challenge this in court), we will see heightened agitation of our culture wars melded into commentary on geopolitics.

This is an insane story. One input to Israel's dystopian "Lavender AI", which selects targets to be killed by the IDF, is "whether you're in a WhatsApp group with a suspected member of Hamas". Which means that Meta is sharing this data with the IDF, making it directly complicit.
