REMEMBERING MYLES MUNROE: A VOICE DEATH COULDN'T SILENCE
Time can be a silencing factor in the life of men and there are some men whose voice only resonate with time. It doesn't lower or go down, it only seem to increase as time increases.
Myles Munroe is a such a man. He was also one who defined relevance and purpose both in print and with his life.
Born 20th April 1954 to an impoverished family of eleven children in Bahamas, Myles Munroe became a Christian at a teen age. He attended Oral Roberts University and bagged a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Education and Theology, he furthered in his study by bagging a Masters Degree from the University of Tulsa and was honoured with a lot honorary degrees from other Universities.
Myles first received wide acclaim by meeting opportunity with preparation. He had gone for a conference ‘Azusa 90’ where Archbishop Idahosa was to be the only black speaker. For some reason, Benson Idahosa could not make it and at the last minute, Munroe had to stand in for him and did a very good job.
Myles was really an intellectual and wise man. He became an International bestselling author, Lecturer, Teacher, Leadership Mentor, Life coach, Business and Government Consultant to many countries and their leaders. He was the Chief Executive Officer of the International Third World Leaders Association and President of The International Leadership Training Institute.
His surge from being a child from an impoverished family to becoming a prosperous Man of God was not so surprising for a man of his intellectual and spiritual capacity. He was a reader and a strong meditator.
Myles Munroe was a mentor of many, including the Nigerian Apostle, Joshua Selman, who he (Selman) said wrote a handwritten letter to show acceptance to mentor him.
It is said by Apostle Joshua Selman that Myles Munroe, during his lifetime didn't just own a plane, but owned a fleet of aircraft. Enormous was his wealth.
In 9th November, however, 2014, on his way to a conference, his helicopter was hit by a crane and he passed alongside his wife, Ruth. His transition was really saddening. A great loss to the world.
Myles Munroe's books are still voices despite his departure in 2014. His books are recommended by many and are mentoring a lot of Christians in the world today. His insights are balanced as he sheds light on leadership, marriage, relationship, Prayer, Holy Spirit and many more. His books maintain bestselling status, because they weren't just written, they were inspired by the Holy Ghost.
Myles was also one who outraged many with his messages. He was once criticized by his country's Foreign Minister, Fred Mitchell after he commented that Mitchell's support of LGBT (Le***an, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) people in the Bahamas didn't "represent the majority of the convictions of the Bahamian people." and as a result of his view, his (Munroe's) theology was called an absolute stupidity and wilful deceit".
He also turned heads with his popular saying that, "The woman you are looking for, brother does not exist. She is in your head. Your job is to take the raw material you married and cultivate her into the woman in your head".
Myles Munroe is not dead, he is asleep. His legacy cannot be forgotten, his books cannot be done away with. He defined purpose in his books and he did live purpose.
Not just his books are his legacy bearers, even his children, Chairo and Charisa are, as they are presently spearheading Myles Munroe International, as well as pursuing their own personal goals as individuals.
Today, 20th April, 2020 is Myles posthumous birthday (he would have been 66), but rather than see his face and body move on the earth again, we see his mindset, thoughts, teachings, books move in the minds and hearts of men.
