We are pleased to announce that joining our line up of mentors at the KORIHI Masterclass Wānanga is none other than BELLA KALOLO.
*
Bella Kalolo is a New Zealand based Soul Singer of Samoan, Tongan and Māori (Ngati Porou) descent. She is one of New Zealand’s most exciting artists and has worked extensively as a vocalist for the last ten years performing and/or recording with Don McGlashan, Dave Dobbyn, Hollie Smith, Fat Freddy's Drop, Tina Cross, Jackie Clarke, Suzanne Lynch, the NZ Symphony Orchestra, Carl Doy and Nathan Haines to name a few.

Bella has also worked in TV on Dancing With The Stars, played a female lead role in TV2’s kids series ‘Jandals Away’ and also appeared in NZ’s own ‘Sione’s Wedding’. She has performed at Glastonbury, City Of London Festival, Sydney Festival, Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta and various festivals closer to home within NZ.

Introducing our 2nd Regional Judge for Ikaroa-Rāwhiti...AMBA HOLLY.

Amba is an award winning Wellington based singer-songwriter. Originally from Waikato-Tainui, Amba grew up singing on marae before deciding to pursue a career in music, composing and creating Te Reo Māori songs.
*
Amba won the Best Māori Songwriter and Best Māori Female Solo Artist awards in the 2019 Waiata Māori Music Awards. She was also the recipient of the Waiata Māori Music Award for Best Female Solo Artist in 2016 and 2017, winning the Radio Airplay Song of the Year by a Māori Artist in Te Reo Māori award with her track Mau Tonu.

Lynaire Simon

Introducing our 2nd Regional Judge for Te Tai Hauāuru...LYNAIRE SIMON.
*
Te Ātihau nui ā Pāpārangi, Ngāti Apa, Ngā Puhi and Ngā Paerangi descent, Lynaire is a singer/songwriter/poet and she began performing as a child under the tutelage of her Pāpā, well known Whanganui composer and musician the late Morvin Te Anatipa Simon.
*
Lynaire has performed in bands locally, nationally and is an acknowledged composer and musician in the region. Among the many highlights of her 30 year career, she counts performing for whānau and reaching the finals of ‘Homai te Pakipaki’ as being ‘right up there.’
*
Lucky to live on her tribal land beside the Whanganui Awa, she finds time to give back to her community and teach waiata at a local kura.
*
Lynaire is very excited and humbled to be working with this amazing Korihi kaupapa as Te Tai Hauāuru Judge alongside uber talented Maaka Fiso. And we are thankful to Lynaire for giving her time, knowledge, tautoko and aroha!

Introducing our 1st Regional Judge for Te Tai Hauāuru...MAAKA FISO.

Maaka is a singer songwriter from the mighty Te Tai Hauauru who we now have the pleasure of hearing on Te Atiawa FM. He's been a proud advocate and promoter of Māori music since his debut on X-factor in 2013.
*
Maaka won best male solo artist at the 2016 Waiata Māori Music Awards, performed over the years including a major spot on the Christmas in the Park stage.
*
More recently he performed last year in Melbourne for the Waitangi Festival as well as the Rainforest World Music Festival in Sarawak, Malaysia.
*
2019 was a stellar year and he was nominated for another Māori Music Award.
*

The sweet sound of birdsong that heralds the dawn of a new day. Korihi is also a transliteration for the word chorus. Singing in chorus, in synch and as one. COVID-19 has seen the mobilisation of Māori communities across the motu come together to fight this devastating global crisis.
