After 18 years on the air, Solar Entertainment's female-oriented TV channel ETC will take its last bow by the end of this week — at least on pay TV.

Solar Entertainment confirmed that ETC's pay television feed will then be replaced by Jungo TV's horror movie channel 'Scream Flix' beginning Monday. If you think that sounds familiar, then you're right. Scream Flix is also the name of the horror movie block on Hallypop, which Jungo has been operating locally in association with GMA.

Meanwhile, ETC's channel space on free TV will then be taken over by the new Tagalog movie and general entertainment channel 'Solar Flix' on July 11, 2022.

Launched in 2004, ETC has aired numerous popular Western titles like 'American Idol', 'Gossip Girl', 'The Vampire Diaries', among others. But in recent years, the channel has added (and later pivoted to) Turkish dizis (or dramas), classic movies, and independent Filipino films.

KAPAMILYA 🤝 KAPUSO

Earlier today, the two biggest entertainment conglomerates in the country, ABS-CBN and GMA, entered into a new licensing agreement. This will see Kapamilya movies under Star Cinema and other ABS-CBN film units air on the Kapuso network.

Titles in the said deal include the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time, 'Hello, Love, Goodbye', LizQuen's 'My Ex and Whys' and 'Alone Together', and the John Llyod Cruz-Sarah Geronimo trilogy.

These films will begin airing on GMA channels this month.

STAR CINEMA MOVIES ON GMA?

On Friday, April 1, GMA Network released a video showcasing its partnership with several film outfits, which together brings the network's pool of movies.

Towards the end of that, a teaser for something they dubbed as "the STARt of a new age of television," which will happen this April.

Several viewers speculate that this might refer to a possible partnership between ABS-CBN's Star Cinema and GMA to screen SC movies on 7.

Neither of both camps have released a statement regarding such. Thus, it remains to be seen whether this promo is an April Fools' joke (as the teaser was dropped today) or indeed the beginning of closer ties between the two rivals from South Triangle.

Last year, Star Cinema movies also became available on TV5, as the Kapatid network and ABS-CBN Entertainment forged a deal that also saw the addition of several Kapamilya TV shows on 5.
